Isaiah 48

1 Hear ye these things, O house of Jacob, you that are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Juda, you who swear by the name of the Lord, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in justice.	1 Ecoutez ceci, maison de Jacob, vous qui portez le nom d'Israël, qui êtes sortis des eaux de Juda, qui jurez au nom du Seigneur, qui vous souvenez du Dieu d'Israël, mais sans (non dans la) vérité et sans (la) justice.
2 For they are called of the holy city, and are established upon the God of Israel: the Lord of hosts is his name.	2 Car ils prennent leur nom de la ville sainte, et ils s'appuient sur le Dieu d'Israël, qui a pour nom le Seigneur des armées.
3 The former things of old I have declared, and they went forth out of my mouth, and I have made them to be heard: I did them suddenly and they came to pass.	3 Je vous ai annoncé longtemps d'avance les premiers événements, ils sont sortis de ma bouche, et je les ai publiés ; soudain j'ai agi, et ils ont eu lieu.
4 For I knew that thou art stubborn, and thy neck is as an iron sinew, and thy forehead as brass.	4 Car je savais que tu es endurci, que ton cou est une barre (chaîne) de fer, et que tu as un front d'airain.
5 I foretold thee of old, before they came to pass I told thee, lest thou shouldst say: My idols have done these things, and my graven and molten things have commanded them.	5 Je t'ai prédit ces faits longtemps d'avance ; je te les ai indiqués avant leur accomplissement, de peur que tu ne dises : Ce sont mes idoles qui ont fait cela, ce sont mes images taillées (au ciseau) et coulées en fonte qui l'ont (ainsi) ordonné.
6 See now all the things which thou hast heard: but have you declared them? I have shewn thee new things from that time, and things are kept which thou knowest not:	6 Tout ce que tu as entendu, vois-le ; mais vous, l'avez-vous annoncé ? Je t'apprends maintenant (t'ai fait entendre dès lors) des choses nouvelles, (que j'ai réservées,) et (il en est des réservées) qui te sont inconnues.
7 They are created now, and not of old: and before the day, when thou heardest them not, lest thou shouldst say: Behold I knew them.	7 C'est maintenant qu'elles sont créées et non d'autrefois, et avant ce (un) jour (seulement) tu n'en as pas entendu parler, de peur que tu ne dises : Je les connaissais.
8 Thou hast neither heard, nor known, neither was thy ear opened of old. For I know that transgressing thou wilt transgress, and I have called thee a transgressor from the womb.	8 Tu ne les as (n'as) ni entendu(es) ni connu(es), et ton oreille (même) n'a pas été (était pas) ouverte (depuis longtemps à leur sujet) ; car je sais que tu seras certainement un prévaricateur, et dès le sein de ta mère je t'ai appelé transgresseur.
9 For my name's sake I will remove my wrath far off: and for my praise I will bridle thee, lest thou shouldst perish.	9 A cause de mon nom j'éloignerai de toi ma fureur, et pour ma gloire je te réfrénerai, pour que tu ne périsses pas.
10 Behold I have refined thee, but not as silver, I have chosen thee in the furnace of poverty.	10 Je t'ai purifié par le feu, mais non comme l'argent ; je t'ai choisi dans (j'ai choisi pour toi) la fournaise de la pauvreté.
11 For my own sake, for my own sake will I do it, that I may not be blasphemed: and I will not give my glory to another.	11 C'est pour moi-même, pour moi-même, que j'agirai, afin que je ne sois pas blasphémé, et je ne donnerai pas ma gloire à un autre.
12 Hearken to me, O Jacob, and thou Israel whom I call: I am he, I am the first, and I am the last.	12 Ecoute-moi, Jacob, et toi, Israël, que j'appelle ; c'est moi, moi-même, qui suis le premier et qui suis le dernier.
13 My hand also hath founded the earth, and my right hand hath measured the heavens: I shall call them, and they shall stand together.	13 C'est ma main (aussi) qui a fondé la terre, et ma droite qui a mesuré (étendu) les cieux ; je les appellerai, et ils se présenteront (tous) ensemble.
14 Assemble yourselves together, all you, and hear: who among them hath declared these things? the Lord hath loved him, he will do his pleasure in Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.	14 Rassemblez-vous tous, et écoutez : Qui d'entre eux a annoncé ces choses ? Le Seigneur l'a aimé, il exécutera sa volonté dans Babylone, et son bras frappera sur (sera son bras parmi, note) les Chaldéens.
15 I, even I have spoken and called him: I have brought him, and his way is made prosperous.	15 C'est moi, c'est moi qui a parlé ; je l'ai appelé, je l'ai amené, et j'ai aplani sa voie.
16 Come ye near unto me, and hear this: I have not spoken in secret from the beginning: from the time before it was done, I was there, and now the Lord God hath sent me, and his spirit.	16 Approchez-vous de moi, et écoutez ceci : Dès le commencement je n'ai pas parlé en cachette, dès l'origine (dans le temps même), avant que ces choses se fissent, j'étais là ; et maintenant le Seigneur Dieu (et son esprit) m'a (ont) envoyé avec son esprit.
17 Thus saith the Lord thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the Lord thy God that teach thee profitable things, that govern thee in the way that thou walkest.	17 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur qui t'a racheté, le saint d'Israël : Je suis le Seigneur ton Dieu, qui t'enseigne ce qui est utile, et qui te conduit dans la voie par laquelle tu marches.
18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments: thy peace had been as a river, and thy justice as the waves of the sea,	18 Oh ! si tu avais été attentif à mes préceptes (commandements), ta paix serait comme un fleuve, et ta justice comme les flots de la mer ;
19 And thy seed had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof: his name should not have perished, nor have been destroyed from before my face.	19 ta postérité serait comme le sable, et les fruits (rejetons) de ton sein comme les grains de sable (les petites pierres de ses bords) ; ton (le) nom (de ta race) n'aurait pas péri, et n'aurait pas été effacé de devant mes yeux.
20 Come forth out of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, declare it with the voice of joy: make this to be heard, and speak it out even to the ends of the earth. Say: The Lord hath redeemed his servant Jacob.	20 Sortez de Babylone, fuyez du milieu des Chaldéens ; faites entendre cette nouvelle (avec la voix de l'exultation), et publiez-la jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre. Dites : Le Seigneur a racheté son serviteur Jacob.
21 They thirsted not in the desert, when he led them out: he brought forth water out of the rock for them, and he clove the rock, and the waters gushed out.	21 Ils n'ont pas souffert la soif dans le désert lorsqu'il les a conduits ; il leur a tiré l'eau du rocher ; il a ouvert la pierre, et les eaux ont coulé.
22 There is no peace to the wicked, saith the Lord.	22 Il n'y a pas de paix pour les impies, dit le Seigneur.
