2 SAVE me, O God: for the waters are come in even unto my soul.	2 Hilf mir, Gott, denn das Wasser geht mir schon bis zur Kehle!
3 I stick fast in the mire of the deep: and there is no sure standing. I am come into the depth of the sea: and a tempest hath overwhelmed me.	3 Ich versinke in tiefem Schlamm und finde keinen Halt. In Wassertiefen bin ich geraten, und die Flut reißt mich hinweg.
4 I have laboured with crying; my jaws are become hoarse: my eyes have failed, whilst I hope in my God.	4 Erschöpft bin ich vom Rufen, heiser ist meine Kehle; meine Augen versagen vor lauter Warten auf meinen Gott.
5 They are multiplied above the hairs of my head, who hate me without cause. My enemies are grown strong who have wrongfully persecuted me: then did I pay that which I took not away.	5 Zahlreicher als meines Hauptes Haare sind die, welche ohne Grund mich hassen. Stark sind meine Verderber, meine lügnerischen Feinde. Was ich nicht geraubt, das soll ich erstatten.
6 O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my offences are not hidden from thee:	6 Gott, du allein kennst meine Torheit, meine Sünden sind dir nicht verborgen.
7 Let not them be ashamed for me, who look for thee, O Lord, the Lord of hosts. Let them not be confounded on my account, who seek thee, O God of Israel.	7 Durch mich mögen keine Enttäuschung erleben, die deiner harren, o Herr, der Heerscharen Herr! Durch mich sollen keine Beschämung erleiden, die dich suchen, Israels Gott!
8 Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.	8 Denn deinetwillen ertrage ich Schmach, bedeckt Schande mein Antlitz.
9 I am become a stranger to my brethren, and an alien to the sons of my mother.	9 Fremd geworden bin ich meinen Brüdern, unbekannt den Söhnen meiner Mutter.
10 For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up: and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.	10 Denn der Eifer für dein Haus verzehrte mich, und die Schmähungen aller, die dich schmähten, fielen auf mich.
11 And I covered my soul in fasting: and it was made a reproach to me.	11 Ich quälte mich selbst mit Fasten; doch es trug mir nur Schmähung ein.
12 And I made haircloth my garment: and I became a byword to them.	12 Das Trauerkleid nahm ich mir zum Gewand und wurde Ziel ihres Spottes.
13 They that sat in the gate spoke against me: and they that drank wine made me their song.	13 Die im Tore sitzen, befassen sich mit mir, desgleichen die spöttelnden Lieder der Zecher.
14 But as for me, my prayer is to thee, O Lord; for the time of thy good pleasure, O God. In the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.	14 Ich aber richte, Herr, mein Gebet zu dir zur Zeit der Gnade, o Gott. Erhöre mich in deiner großen Huld durch deine treue Hilfe!
15 Draw me out of the mire, that I may not stick fast: deliver me from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.	15 Entreiße mich dem Sumpf, damit ich nicht versinke! Möge ich vor meinen Hassern Rettung finden und vor den Wassertiefen!
16 Let not the tempest of water drown me, nor the deep swallow me up: and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.	16 Nicht reiße die Wasserflut mich fort, die Tiefe verschlinge mich nicht, der Brunnen verschließe nicht über mir seinen Schlund!
17 Hear me, O Lord, for thy mercy is kind; look upon me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.	17 Erhöre mich, Herr; denn gütig ist deine Huld! Nach deiner großen Barmherzigkeit wende dich mir zu!
18 And turn not away thy face from thy servant: for I am in trouble, hear me speedily.	18 Verbirg dein Antlitz nicht vor deinem Knecht! Ich bin in Not; erhöre mich recht bald!
19 Attend to my soul, and deliver it: save me because of my enemies.	19 Komm doch zu mir, erlöse mich! Befreie mich um meiner Feinde willen!
20 Thou knowest my reproach, and my confusion, and my shame.	20 Du kennst ja meine Schmach, und vor dir stehen alle meine Widersacher.
21 In thy sight are all they that afflict me; my heart hath expected reproach and misery. And I looked for one that would grieve together with me, but there was none: and for one that would comfort me, and I found none.	21 Die Schmach bricht mir das Herz; meine Schande und mein Schimpf sind unheilbar. Ich hoffte zwar auf Mitleid, doch vergebens, auf Tröster, aber keinen fand ich.
22 And they gave me gall for my food, and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.	22 Sie gaben mir als Nahrung Gift und Essig für den Durst als Trank.
23 Let their table become as a snare before them, and a recompense, and a stumblingblock.	23 Möge ihr Tisch vor ihnen zur Falle werden, und ihre Opfermahle seien zum Fangnetz!
24 Let their eyes be darkened that they see not; and their back bend thou down always.	24 Ihre Augen mögen erlöschen, daß sie nicht sehen; ihre Hüften laß immerdar wanken!
25 Pour out thy indignation upon them: and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.	25 Schütte aus über sie deinen Grimm, deine Zornesglut soll sie treffen!
26 Let their habitation be made desolate: and let there be none to dwell in their tabernacles.	26 Ihr Lagerplatz möge veröden, und niemand wohne in ihren Zelten!
27 Because they have persecuted him whom thou hast smitten; and they have added to the grief of my wounds.	27 Denn sie verfolgen, den du bereits schlugst, und mehren den Schmerz dessen, den du getroffen.
28 Add thou iniquity upon their iniquity: and let them not come into thy justice.	28 Häufe ihnen Schuld auf Schuld, daß sie vor dir nie recht bekommen!
29 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; and with the just let them not be written.	29 Sie seien gelöscht aus dem Buch der Lebendigen, nicht aufgezeichnet bei den Gerechten!
30 But I am poor and sorrowful: thy salvation, O God, hath set me up.	30 Ich aber bin elend und leidend; deine Hilfe, o Gott, richte mich auf!
31 I will praise the name of God with a canticle: and I will magnify him with praise.	31 Im Lied will ich loben den Namen Gottes, will ihn hoch erheben im Danklied.
32 And it shall please God better than a young calf, that bringeth forth horns and hoofs.	32 Das gefällt dem Herrn besser als Opferstiere, als Farren mit Hörnern und Klauen.
33 Let the poor see and rejoice: seek ye God, and your soul shall live.	33 Schaut her, ihr Gebeugten, und freut euch! Die ihr Gott sucht, euer Herz lebe auf!
34 For the Lord hath heard the poor: and hath not despised his prisoners.	34 Denn der Herr hört auf die Armen und verachtet seine Gefangenen nicht.
35 Let the heavens and the earth praise him; the sea, and every thing that creepeth therein.	35 Himmel und Erde mögen ihn preisen, die Meere und alles, was darin sich bewegt!
36 For God will save Sion, and the cities of Juda shall be built up. And they shall dwell there, and acquire it by inheritance.	36 Denn Gott wird Sion erretten und die Städte Judas wieder erbauen, so daß man dort Wohnung und Besitz finden kann.
37 And the seed of his servants shall possess it; and they that love his name shall dwell therein.	37 Die Kinder seiner Diener werden es erben; wer seinen Namen liebt, wird darin weilen.
