Unto the end, a psalm for the sons of Core.1 Pour la fin, des (aux) fils de Coré, psaume.
Hear these things, all ye nations: give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world.2 Ecoutez tous ceci, ô peuples ; prêtez l'oreille, vous (tous) qui habitez l'univers ;
All you that are earthborn, and you sons of men: both rich and poor together.3 et vous, enfants de la terre et fils des hommes, * le riche aussi bien que le pauvre.
My mouth shall speak wisdom: and the meditation of my heart understanding.4 Ma bouche proférera la sagesse, * et de la méditation de mon coeur sortira la prudence.
I will incline my ear to a parable; I will open my proposition on the psaltery.5 J'inclinerai mon oreille à la (une) parabole ; je révélerai au son de la harpe (sur le psaltérion) ce que j'ai à proposer.
Why shall I fear in the evil day? the iniquity of my heel shall encompass me.6 Pourquoi craindrais-je au jour mauvais ?
They that trust in their own strength, and glory in the multitude of their riches,7 Ils (Qu'ils craignent, ceux qui) se confient dans leur force, et (ils) se glorifient dans l'abondance de leurs richesses.
No brother can redeem, nor shall man redeem: he shall not give to God his ransom,8 Le frère ne rachète point, un homme rachètera-t-il?
Nor the price of the redemption of his soul: and shall labour for ever,9 ni un prix capable de racheter son âme. * Il sera éternellement dans la peine;
and shall still live unto the end.10 et il vivra encore jusqu'à la fin.
He shall not see destruction, when he shall see the wise dying: the senseless and the fool shall perish together: And they shall leave their riches to strangers:11 Il ne verra pas la mort, lorsqu'il verra les sages mourir.
and their sepulchres shall be their houses for ever. Their dwelling places to all generations: they have called their lands by their names.12 et leurs sépulcres seront à jamais leurs demeures.
And man when he was in honour did not understand; he is compared to senseless beasts, and is become like to them.13 Et l'homme, quoique élevé (lorsqu'il était) en honneur, n'a pas compris.
They are laid in hell like sheep: death shall feed upon them. And the just shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their help shall decay in hell from their glory.15 Ils ont été mis dans l'enfer comme un troupeau de brebis ; la mort les dévorera.
But God will redeem my soul from the hand of hell, when he shall receive me.16 Mais Dieu rachètera mon âme de la puissance (main) de l'enfer, lorsqu'il m'aura pris auprès de lui (sous sa protection).
Be not thou afraid, when a man shall be made rich, and when the glory of his house shall be increased.17 Ne crains (craignez) pas, quand un homme sera devenu riche, et quand la gloire de sa maison se sera agrandie ;
For when he shall die he shall take nothing away; nor shall his glory descend with him.18 car, lorsqu'il sera mort, il n'emportera pas tout (tous ses biens), et sa gloire ne descendra point avec lui.
For in his lifetime his soul will be blessed: and he will praise thee when thou shalt do well to him.19 Car, pendant sa vie, son âme sera bénie ; il te (vous) louera quand tu (vous) lui auras(ez) fait du bien.
He shall go in to the generations of his fathers: and he shall never see light.20 Il entrera jusqu'auprès des générations de ses pères ; et durant toute l'éternité il ne verra pas la lumière.
Man when he was in honour did not understand: he hath been compared to senseless beasts, and made like to them.21 L'homme, quoique élevé (lorsqu'il était) en honneur, n'a point compris ; il a été comparé aux bêtes (animaux) sans raison, et il leur est devenu semblable.
