A psalm of a canticle, at the dedication of David's house. | 1 [Psalm Canticle for the Dedication of the House Of David] I praise you to the heights, Yahweh, for youhave raised me up, you have not let my foes make merry over me. |
I will extol thee, O Lord, for thou hast upheld me: and hast not made my enemies to rejoice over me. | 2 Yahweh, my God, I cried to you for help and you healed me. |
O Lord my God, I have cried to thee, and then hast healed me. | 3 Yahweh, you have lifted me out of Sheol, from among those who sink into oblivion you have given melife. |
Thou hast brought forth, O Lord, my soul from hell: thou hast saved me from them that go down into the pit. | 4 Make music for Yahweh, al you who are faithful to him, praise his unforgettable holiness. |
Sing to the Lord, O ye his saints: and give praise to the memory of his holiness. | 5 His anger lasts but a moment, his favour through life; In the evening come tears, but with dawn cries ofjoy. |
For wrath is in his indignation; and life in his good will. In the evening weeping shall have place, and in the morning gladness. | 6 Carefree, I used to think, 'Nothing can ever shake me!' |
And in my abundance I said: I shall never be moved. | 7 Your favour, Yahweh, set me on impregnable heights, but you turned away your face and I wasterrified. |
O Lord, in thy favour, thou gavest strength to my beauty. Thou turnedst away thy face from me, and I became troubled. | 8 To you, Yahweh, I cal , to my God I cry for mercy. |
To thee, O Lord, will I cry: and I will make supplication to my God. | 9 What point is there in my death, my going down to the abyss? Can the dust praise you or proclaimyour faithfulness? |
What profit is there in my blood, whilst I go down to corruption? Shall dust confess to thee, or declare thy truth? | 10 Listen, Yahweh, take pity on me, Yahweh, be my help! |
The Lord hath heard, and hath had mercy on me: the Lord became my helper. | 11 You have turned my mourning into dancing, you have stripped off my sackcloth and clothed me withjoy. |
Thou hast turned for me my mourning into joy: thou hast cut my sackcloth, and hast compassed me with gladness: | 12 So my heart wil sing to you unceasingly, Yahweh, my God, I shal praise you for ever. |
To the end that my glory may sing to thee, and I may not regret: O Lord my God, I will give praise to thee for ever. |
