1 The psalm of David when he fled from the face of his son Absalom.	1 [Psalm Davids, als er vor seinem Sohn Absalom floh.]
2 Why, O Lord, are they multiplied that afflict me? many are they who rise up against me.	2 Herr, wie zahlreich sind meine Bedränger! Gar viele erheben sich wider mich.
3 Many say to my soul: There is no salvation for him in his God.	3 Viele sind es, die von mir sagen: "Für den gibt es keine Hilfe bei Gott!"
4 But thou, O Lord art my protector, my glory, and the lifter up of my head.	4 Doch du, o Herr, bist Schild um mich her, bist mein Ruhm und erhebst mein Haupt.
5 I have cried to the Lord with my voice: and he hath heard me from his holy hill.	5 Rufe ich laut zum Herrn, so erhört er mich von seinem heiligen Berge her. [Zwischenspiel]
6 I have slept and taken my rest: and I have risen up, because the Lord hath protected me.	6 Ich legte mich nieder und schlummerte ein; ich erwachte wieder, weil der Herr mich hält.
7 I will not fear thousands of the people, surrounding me: arise, O Lord; save me, O my God.	7 Ich fürchte mich nicht vor zahllosem Kriegsvolk, das ringsum sich lagert wider mich.
8 For thou hast struck all them who are my adversaries without cause: thou hast broken the teeth of sinners.	8 Erhebe dich, Herr, hilf mir, mein Gott! Denn stets hast du all meinen Feinden die Wange zerschlagen, zerbrochen die Zähne der Frevler.
9 Salvation is of the Lord: and thy blessing is upon thy people.	9 Vom Herrn kommt die Hilfe! Auf deinem Volke ruhe dein Segen! [Zwischenspiel]
