Proverbi 21

DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il cuor del re è nella mano del Signore come ruscelli di acque; Egli lo piega a tutto ciò che gli piace	1 Like flowing water is a king's heart in Yahweh's hand; he directs it wherever he pleases.
2 Tutte le vie dell’uomo gli paiono diritte; Ma il Signore pesa i cuori	2 All actions are straight in the doer's own eyes, but it is Yahweh who weighs hearts.
3 Far giustizia e giudicio È cosa più gradita dal Signore, che sacrificio	3 To do what is upright and just is more pleasing to Yahweh than sacrifice.
4 Gli occhi altieri, e il cuor gonfio, Che son la lampana degli empi, son peccato	4 Haughty eye, proud heart, lamp of the wicked, nothing but sin.
5 I pensieri dell’uomo diligente producono di certo abbondanza; Ma l’uomo disavveduto cade senza fallo in necessità	5 The hardworking is thoughtful, and al is gain; too much haste, and all that comes of it is want.
6 Il far tesori con lingua di falsità è una cosa vana, Sospinta in qua ed in là; e si appartiene a quelli che cercan la morte	6 To make a fortune with the help of a lying tongue: such is the idle fantasy of those who look for death.
7 Il predar degli empi li trarrà in giù; Perciocchè hanno rifiutato di far ciò che è diritto	7 The violence of the wicked proves their ruin, for they refuse to do what is right.
8 La via stravolta dell’uomo è anche strana; Ma l’opera di chi è puro è diritta	8 The way of the felon is devious, the conduct of the innocent straight.
9 Meglio è abitare sopra un canto di un tetto, Che con una moglie rissosa in casa comune	9 Better the corner of a roof to live on than a house shared with a quarrelsome woman.
10 L’anima dell’empio desidera il male; Il suo amico stesso non trova pietà appo lui	10 The soul of the wicked is intent on evil, to such a person no neighbour can ever do right.
11 Quando lo schernitore è gastigato, il semplice ne diventa savio; E quando si ammonisce il savio, egli apprende scienza	11 When a cynic is punished, simpletons grow wiser, but someone of understanding acquires knowledgeby instruction.
12 Il giusto considera la casa dell’empio; Ella trabocca l’empio nel male	12 The Upright One watches the house of the wicked; he hurls the wicked to destruction.
13 Chi tura l’orecchio, per non udire il grido del misero, Griderà anch’egli, e non sarà esaudito	13 Whoever refuses to listen to the cry of the weak, wil in turn plead and not be heard.
14 Il presente dato di nascosto acqueta l’ira; E il dono porto nel seno acqueta il forte cruccio	14 Anger is mol ified by a covert gift, raging fury by a present under cover of the cloak.
15 Il far ciò che è diritto è letizia al giusto; Ma è uno spavento agli operatori d’iniquità	15 Doing what is right fills the upright with joy, but evil-doers with terror.
16 L’uomo che devia dal cammino del buon senno Riposerà in compagnia de’ morti	16 Whoever strays far from the way of prudence wil rest in the assembly of shadows.
17 L’uomo che ama godere sarà bisognoso; Chi ama il vino e l’olio non arricchirà	17 Pleasure-lovers stay poor, no one wil grow rich who loves wine and good living.
18 L’empio sarà per riscatto del giusto; E il disleale sarà in iscambio degli uomini diritti	18 The wicked is a ransom for the upright; and the law-breaker for the honest.
19 Meglio è abitare in terra deserta, Che con una moglie rissosa e stizzosa	19 Better to live in a desert land than with a quarrelsome and irritable woman.
20 Nell’abitacolo del savio vi è un tesoro di cose rare, e d’olii preziosi; Ma l’uomo stolto dissipa tutto ciò	20 The wise has valuables and oil at home, but a fool soon runs through both.
21 Chi va dietro a giustizia e benignità Troverà vita, giustizia, e gloria	21 Whoever pursues uprightness and faithful love will find life, uprightness and honour.
22 Il savio sale nella città de’ valenti, Ed abbatte la forza di essa	22 A sage can scale a garrisoned city and shatter the rampart on which it relied.
23 Chi guarda la sua bocca e la sua lingua Guarda l’anima sua d’afflizioni	23 Watch kept over mouth and tongue keeps the watcher safe from disaster.
24 Il nome del superbo presuntuoso è: schernitore; Egli fa ogni cosa con furor di superbia	24 Insolent, haughty -- the name is 'Cynic'; overweening pride marks such behaviour.
25 Il desiderio del pigro l’uccide; Perciocchè le sue mani rifiutano di lavorare.	25 The idler's desires are the death of him, since his hands wil do no work.
26 L’uomo dato a cupidigia appetisce tuttodì; Ma il giusto dona, e non risparmia	26 Al day long the godless is racked by desire, the upright gives without ever refusing.
27 Il sacrificio degli empi è cosa abbominevole; Quanto più se l’offeriscono con scelleratezza!	27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abhorrent, above al if it is offered for bad motives.
28 Il testimonio mendace perirà; Ma l’uomo che ascolta parlerà in perpetuo	28 The false witness wil perish, but no one who knows how to listen wil ever be silenced.
29 L’uomo empio si rende sfacciato; Ma l’uomo diritto addirizza le sue vie	29 The wicked man's strength shows on his face, but the honest it is whose steps are firm.
30 Non vi è sapienza, nè prudenza, Nè consiglio, incontro al Signore.	30 No wisdom, no understanding, no advice is worth anything before Yahweh.
31 Il cavallo è apparecchiato per lo giorno della battaglia; Ma il salvare appartiene al Signore	31 Fit out the cavalry for the day of battle, but the victory is Yahweh's.
