BIBLES DES PEUPLES	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Le pauvre, s’il est un sage, va la tête haute; il a sa place parmi les notables.	1 The wisdom of the humble shall exalt his head, and shall make him sit in the midst of great men.
2 Ne t’emballe pas pour quelqu’un parce qu’il se présente bien, ne prends personne en dégoût pour son seul aspect.	2 Praise not a man for his beauty, neither despise a man for his look.
3 L’abeille est fort petite parmi la gent ailée, mais vient la première pour la douceur de son miel.	3 The bee is small among flying things, but her fruit hath the chiefest sweetness.
4 Ne tire pas vanité de l’habit que tu portes, ne sois pas orgueilleux parce que les gens t’honorent; sais-tu ce que le Seigneur prépare sans qu’on le remarque?	4 Glory not in apparel at any time, and be not exalted in the day of thy honour: for the works of the Highest only are wonderful, and his works are glorious, and secret, end hidden.
5 Bien des dictateurs ont été renversés, et la couronne est allée à celui qu’on n’attendait pas.	5 Many tyrants have sat on the throne, and he whom no man would think on, hath worn the crown.
6 Beaucoup qui étaient puissants ont tout perdu, des gens dont tout le monde parlait sont tombés aux mains d’un nouveau venu.	6 Many mighty men have been greatly brought down, and the glorious have been delivered into the hand of others.
7 Ne reprends personne si tu n’es pas d’abord bien informé; commence par examiner le cas et tu feras ensuite des reproches.	7 Before thou inquire, blame no man: and when thou hast inquired, reprove justly.
8 Ne réponds pas avant d’avoir écouté, n’interviens pas au beau milieu du discours.	8 Before thou hear, answer not a word: and interrupt not others in the midst of their discourse.
9 Ne te mêle pas de ce qui ne te regarde pas, ne prends pas parti dans les disputes entre pécheurs.	9 Strive not in a matter which doth not concern thee, and sit not in judgment with sinners.
10 Mon enfant, n’entreprends pas trop de choses à la fois; si tu continues d’en rajouter, tu ne seras pas sans reproches; tu auras beau courir, tu n’y arriveras pas, et tu ne pourras pas davantage t’en dégager.	10 My son, meddle not with many matters: and if thou be rich, thou shalt not be free from sin: for if thou pursue after thou shalt not overtake: and if thou run before thou shalt not escape.
11 Il y en a qui se fatiguent au travail, s’épuisent et se tourmentent, et ils se retrouvent plus pauvres qu’avant.	11 There is an ungodly man that laboureth, and maketh haste, and is in sorrow, and is so much the more in want.
12 D’autres sont faibles et vulnérables, sans ressources et manquant de tout, mais le Seigneur les regarde d’un œil favorable.	12 Again, there is an inactive man that wanteth help, is very weak in ability, and full of poverty:
13 Il les tire de leur abaissement et leur fait redresser la tête, à tel point que beaucoup s’en étonnent.	13 Yet the eye of God hath looked upon him for good, and hath lifted him up from his low estate, and hath exalted his head: and many have wondered at him, and have glorified God.
14 Prospérité et malheur, vie et mort, pauvreté et richesse, tout vient du Seigneur.	14 Good things and evil, life and death, poverty and riches, are from God.
15 NO TEXT	15 Wisdom and discipline, and the knowledge of the law are with God. Love and the ways of good things are with him
16 NO TEXT	16 Error and darkness are created with sinners: and they that glory in evil things, grow old in evil.
17 Les hommes droits peuvent compter sur la générosité du Seigneur, sa bienveillance les guidera en toute occasion.	17 The gift of God abideth with the just, and his advancement shall have success for ever.
18 Pense au sort d’un homme qui s’est enrichi à force de calculs et d’économies.	18 There is one that is enriched by living sparingly, and this is the portion of his reward.
19 Peut-être se dit-il: “J’ai bien gagné mon repos, je peux vivre maintenant sur ce que j’ai acquis”. Mais il ne sait pas le temps qui lui reste, il mourra bien et laissera tout à d’autres.	19 In that he saith: I have found me rest, and now I will eat of my goods alone:
20 Sois fidèle à ton devoir, consacres-y ta vie et poursuis ton œuvre jusqu’en tes vieux jours.	20 And he knoweth not what time shall pass, and that death approacheth, and that he must leave all to others, and shall die.
21 Ne te scandalise pas de la réussite des pécheurs; mets ta confiance dans le Seigneur et persévère dans ton labeur. C’est chose facile pour le Seigneur que de faire riche le pauvre en un instant.	21 Be steadfast in thy covenant, and be conversant therein, and grow old in the work of thy commandments.
22 La bénédiction du Seigneur vient récompenser l’homme droit; soudain, sans se faire annoncer, elle porte ses fruits.	22 Abide not in the works of sinners. But trust in God, and stay in thy place.
23 Ne dis pas: “De quoi est-ce que je manque, que pourrais-je avoir ou désirer de plus?”	23 For it is easy in the eyes of God on a sudden to make the poor man rich.
24 Ne dis pas: “J’ai tout ce qu’il me faut, quel malheur à présent pourrait m’arriver?”	24 The blessing of God maketh haste to reward the just, and in a swift hour his blessing beareth fruit.
25 Dans les bons jours on oublie les mauvais, dans les mauvais jours on ne se souvient plus des bons.	25 Say not: What need I, and what good shall I have by this?
26 Même quand la fin est proche, il est facile pour le Seigneur de rendre à chacun selon sa conduite.	26 Say not: I am sufficient for myself: and what shall I be made worse by this?
27 L’heure de l’épreuve fait oublier tous les plaisirs, c’est quand se termine la vie d’un homme que ses actions prennent tout leur sens.	27 In the day of good things be not unmindful of evils: and in the day of evils be not unmindful of good things:
28 Ne parle pas de vie comblée de bénédictions tant que la personne n’est pas morte: tu ne la connaîtras qu’à la fin.	28 For it is easy before God in the day of death to reward every one according to his ways.
29 N’introduis pas n’importe qui dans ta maison, car les profiteurs adroits sont nombreux.	29 The affliction of an hour maketh one forget great delights, and in the end of a man is the disclosing of his works.
30 La pensée de l’orgueilleux est comme la perdrix encagée pour attirer le gibier: il t’observe et cherche tes points faibles;	30 Praise not any man before death, for a man is known by his children.
31 il change le bien en mal, il pose ses pièges, il calomnie ce qu’il y a de meilleur.	31 Bring not every man into thy house: for many are the snares of the deceitful.
32 L’étincelle fera flamber les charbons, le pécheur avec ses pièges fera couler le sang.	32 For as corrupted bowels send forth stinking breath, and as the partridge is brought into the cage, and as the roe into the snare: so also is the heart of the proud, and as a spy that looketh on the fall of his neighbour.
33 Méfie-toi du méchant car il complote le mal; il pourrait détruire ta réputation pour toujours.	33 For he lieth in wait and turneth good into evil, and on the elect he will lay a blot.
34 Introduis un étranger dans ta maison, il te causera des problèmes; il te brouillera avec les gens de ta maison.	34 Of one spark cometh a great fire, and of one deceitful man much blood: and a sinful man lieth in wait for blood.
	35 Take heed to thyself of a mischievous man, for he worketh evils: lest he bring upon thee reproach for ever.
	36 Receive a stranger in, and he shall overthrow thee with a whirlwind, and shall turn thee out of thy own.
