Apocalisse 18

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dopo ciò vidi un altro angelo scendere dal cielo con grande potestà; la terra fu illuminata al suo splendore.	1 After this, I saw another angel come down from heaven, with great authority given to him; the earthshone with his glory.
2 Gridò con voce possente: "E' caduta, è caduta Babilonia, la grande! E' diventata rifugio di demòni, carcere di ogni spirito immondo, carcere di ogni uccello impuro, carcere di ogni animale immondo e detestabile.	2 At the top of his voice he shouted, 'Babylon has fal en, Babylon the Great has fallen, and has becomethe haunt of devils and a lodging for every foul spirit and dirty, loathsome bird.
3 Ché dal vino provocante della sua fornicazione bevvero tutte le genti; con essa i re della terra fornicarono, con il lusso sfarzoso di lei arricchirono i mercanti della terra".	3 Al the nations have drunk deep of the wine of her prostitution; every king on the earth has prostitutedhimself with her, and every merchant grown rich through her debauchery.'
4 Udii ancora un'altra voce dal cielo che disse: "Uscite da essa, o popolo mio, affinché non vi associate ai suoi stessi peccati e non siate colpiti dai suoi stessi flagelli.	4 Another voice spoke from heaven; I heard it say, 'Come out, my people, away from her, so that you donot share in her crimes and have the same plagues to bear.
5 Ché sono giunti fino al cielo i peccati di lei; si è ricordato Dio delle sue iniquità.	5 Her sins have reached up to the sky, and God has her crimes in mind: treat her as she has treatedothers.
6 Come essa v'ha dato, così ripagatela; rendetele il doppio in proporzione delle sue opere; nella coppa in cui lei ha versato mescete doppia misura per lei.	6 She must be paid double the amount she exacted. She is to have a doubly strong cup of her ownmixture.
7 Per quanto di gloria e di sfarzo s'è data, altrettanto a lei date di lutto e tormento. Poiché dice in cuor suo: "Io siedo regina e vedova non sono e lutto non vedrò giammai",	7 Every one of her pomps and orgies is to be matched by a torture or an agony. I am enthroned asqueen, she thinks; I am no widow and wil never know bereavement.
8 per questo in un sol giorno verranno i suoi flagelli: morte, lutto e fame; dalle fiamme sarà divorata. Sì, forte è il Signore Dio, è lui che l'ha giudicata".	8 For that, in one day, the plagues wil fal on her: disease and mourning and famine. She wil be burnedto the ground. The Lord God who has condemned her is mighty.'
9 Allora i re della terra che, abbandonandosi ai piaceri, avranno fornicato con essa, piangeranno e faranno lamento per lei, al contemplare il fumo del suo incendio;	9 'There will be mourning and weeping for her by the kings of the earth who have prostituted themselveswith her and held orgies with her. They see the smoke as she burns,
10 e da lontano, perché presi dal terrore del suo supplizio, diranno: "Guai, guai, o città grande, o Babilonia, città potente, ché in un momento è giunto il tuo castigo!".	10 while they keep at a safe distance through fear of her anguish. They wil say: Mourn, mourn for thisgreat city, Babylon, so powerful a city, in one short hour your doom has come upon you.
11 E i mercanti della terra piangono e fanno lamento su di lei, perché nessuno compra più la loro merce:	11 'There wil be weeping and distress over her among al the traders of the earth when no one is left tobuy their cargoes of goods;
12 merce d'oro e d'argento, di pietre preziose e perle, di bisso e di porpora, di seta e di scarlatto; ogni specie di legno odorifero, ogni specie di oggetti d'avorio, di oggetti di legno prezioso, di bronzo, ferro e marmo;	12 their stocks of gold and silver, jewels and pearls, linen and purple and silks and scarlet; al thesandalwood, every piece in ivory or fine wood, in bronze or iron or marble;
13 cinnamomo e spezie; profumi, mirra e incenso; vino e olio; semola e frumento; bestiame e pecore, cavalli e cocchi; schiavi e vite umane.	13 the cinnamon and spices, the myrrh and ointment and incense; wine, oil, flour and corn; their stocksof cattle, sheep, horses and chariots, their slaves and their human cargo.
14 "I frutti, anelito della tua anima, sono fuggiti lontano da te; e ogni segno di opulenza e fasto è scomparso lontano da te; queste cose nessuno più troverà".	14 'Al the fruits you had set your hearts on have failed you; gone for ever, never to return again, is yourlife of magnificence and ease.
15 I mercanti, dunque, che essa aveva arricchito in tale commercio, da lontano, perché presi dal terrore del suo supplizio, piangeranno e faranno lamento dicendo:	15 'The traders who had made a fortune out of her wil be standing at a safe distance through fear of heranguish, mourning and weeping.
16 "Guai, guai, o città grande, tu che vestivi di bisso, di porpora e di scarlatto, tu che ti ornavi di gioielli d'oro, di pietre preziose e perle;	16 They wil be saying: Mourn, mourn for this great city; for al the linen and purple and scarlet that youwore, for al your finery of gold and jewels and pearls;
17 ecco: in un sol momento è andata in fumo tanta ricchezza!".	17 your huge riches are al destroyed within a single hour.' Al the captains and seafaring men, sailorsand all those who make a living from the sea kept a safe distance,
18 E ogni nocchiero e tutti quelli che viaggiano in mare, i marinai e quanti trafficano nel mare, lontano si fermarono e al vedere il fumo del suo incendio gridano: "Chi uguagliava la grande città?".	18 watching the smoke as she burned, and crying out, 'Has there ever been a city as great as this!'
19 E gettandosi polvere sulle loro teste gridano piangendo e facendo lamenti: "Guai, guai, o città grande! Della sua opulenza si arricchirono quanti in mare possedevano navi. Sì, in un sol momento s'è compiuta la sua rovina!".	19 They threw dust on their heads and said, with tears and groans: 'Mourn, mourn for this great citywhose lavish living has made a fortune for every owner of a sea-going ship, ruined within a single hour.
20 "Rallegrati per essa, o cielo, e voi, santi, apostoli e profeti, perché Dio ha preso la vostra vendetta su lei!".	20 'Now heaven, celebrate her downfall, and all you saints, apostles and prophets: God has givenjudgement for you against her.'
21 Poi un angelo possente sollevò una pietra grande come una mola e la gettò nel mare dicendo: "Con tale impeto sarà sommersa Babilonia, la grande città, e più non apparirà.	21 Then a powerful angel picked up a boulder like a great mil stone, and as he hurled it into the sea, hesaid, 'That is how the great city of Babylon is going to be hurled down, never to be seen again.
22 Armonia di arpisti e musici, di flautisti e trombettieri in te più non s'udrà. Artista in ogni arte esperto in te più non vi sarà. Cigolìo di mola in te più non s'udrà;	22 Never again in you will be heard the song of harpists and minstrels, the music of flute and trumpet;never again wil craftsmen of every skill be found in you or the sound of the handmil be heard;
23 luce di lampada in te più non brillerà; voce di sposo e sposa in te più non s'udrà. Sì, erano i tuoi mercanti i grandi della terra; sì, dalle tue malìe tutte le genti furono sedotte.	23 never again wil shine the light of the lamp in you, never again wil be heard in you the voices ofbridegroom and bride. Your traders were the princes of the earth, al the nations were led astray by your sorcery.
24 In essa s'è trovato il sangue di profeti e di santi e di tutti quelli che sulla terra sono stati immolati".	24 In her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and all the blood that was ever shed on earth.'
