Siracide 33

1 Chi teme il Signore non incontrerà il male, ma dopo la prova sarà liberato.	1 No evil can harm the man who fears the LORD; through trials, again and again he is safe.
2 L'uomo saggio non odia la legge, ma chi finge con essa è come mare in tempesta.	2 He who hates the law is without wisdom, and is tossed about like a boat in a storm.
3 L'uomo ragionevole confida nella Parola, accoglie la legge come responso di un oracolo.	3 The prudent man trusts in the word of the LORD, and the law is dependable for him as a divine oracle.
4 Prepara la tua parola perché sia ascoltata, ripensa alla tua istruzione e poi rispondi.	4 Prepare your words and you will be listened to; draw upon your training, and then give your answer.
5 Ruota di carro i sentimenti dello stolto e asse che gira è il suo pensiero.	5 Like the wheel of a cart is the mind of a fool; his thoughts revolve in circles.
6 L'amico derisore è come uno stallone che nitrisce sotto chiunque lo cavalca.	6 A fickle friend is like the stallion that neighs, no matter who the rider.
7 Perché un giorno è superiore a un altro, anche se la loro luce viene dal sole?	7 Why is one day more important than another, when it is the sun that lights up every day?
8 Sono stati distinti dalla mente del Signore che ha diversificato stagioni e feste.	8 It is due to the LORD'S wisdom that they differ; it is through him the seasons and feasts come and go.
9 Alcuni giorni ha scelto per santificarli, gli altri li destina solo a far numero.	9 Some he dignifies and sanctifies, and others he lists as ordinary days.
10 Anche gli uomini vengon tutti dal fango, e Adamo fu creato dalla terra;	10 So too, all men are of clay, for from earth man was formed;
11 ma il Signore li ha distinti con grande sapienza e ha diversificato le loro vie.	11 Yet with his great knowledge the LORD makes men unlike; in different paths he has them walk.
12 Alcuni li ha benedetti ed elevati, alcuni li ha santificati e avvicinati a sé; altri li ha maledetti e umiliati, li ha rovesciati dalla loro posizione.	12 Some he blesses and makes great, some he sanctifies and draws to himself. Others he curses and brings low, and expels them from their place.
13 Com'è la creta nelle mani del vasaio che può plasmarla a suo piacimento, così son gli uomini in mano al loro Creatore che dà a ciascuno secondo la sua decisione.	13 Like clay in the hands of a potter, to be molded according to his pleasure, So are men in the hands of their Creator, to be assigned by him their function.
14 Davanti al male c'è il bene e davanti alla morte la vita, così davanti all'uomo pio c'è il peccatore.	14 As evil contrasts with good, and death with life, so are sinners in contrast with the just;
15 Guarda così a tutte le opere dell'Altissimo, due a due, l'una davanti all'altra.	15 See now all the works of the Most High: they come in pairs, the one the opposite of the other.
16 Io sono venuto per ultimo, come chi racimola dopo la vendemmia.	16 Now I am the last to keep vigil, like a gleaner after the vintage;
17 Ho fatto presto, con la benedizione del Signore, e ho riempito il tino come chi vendemmia.	17 Since by the LORD'S blessing I have made progress till like a vintager I have filled my wine press,
18 Vedete che non ho faticato per me solo ma per tutti quelli che cercano l'istruzione.	18 I would inform you that not for myself only have I toiled, but for every seeker after wisdom.
19 Ascoltatemi, o grandi del popolo, e quanti dirigete l'assemblea, udite.	19 Listen to me, O leaders of the multitude; O rulers of the assembly, give ear!
20 Al figlio e alla moglie, al fratello e all'amico non dar potere su di te, finché vivi. Non dare ad altri i tuoi averi, perché, se cambi idea, non debba richiederli.	20 Let neither son nor wife, neither brother nor friend, have power over you as long as you live.
21 Finché vivi e c'è in te respiro, non cedere i tuoi averi a nessuno.	21 While breath of life is still in you, let no man have dominion over you. Give not to another your wealth, lest then you have to plead with him;
22 E' meglio infatti che i figli chiedano a te che non esser tu ad attendere dalle loro mani.	22 Far better that your children plead with you than that you should look to their generosity.
23 In tutte le opere mantieni la superiorità, non esporre al biasimo la tua dignità.	23 Keep control over all your affairs; let no one tarnish your glory.
24 Quando finiranno i giorni della vita, solo al momento della morte, fa' il testamento.	24 When your few days reach their limit, at the time of death distribute your inheritance.
25 Fieno, bastone e carichi per l'asino, pane, disciplina e lavoro per lo schiavo.	25 Fodder and whip and loads for an ass; the yoke and harness and the rod of his master.
26 Se lo fai lavorare con rigore, starai in pace, se risparmi le sue mani, cercherà la libertà.	26 Make a slave work and he will look for his rest; let his hands be idle and he will seek to be free.
27 Giogo e bardatura piegano il collo, corde e torture lo schiavo svogliato.	27 Food, correction and work for a slave; and for a wicked slave, punishment in the stocks.
28 Mandalo a lavorare perché non resti ozioso, l'ozio infatti insegna molti disordini.	28 Force him to work that he be not idle, for idleness is an apt teacher of mischief.
29 Mettilo a lavorare perché questo è il suo dovere, se non obbedisce, opprimilo con i ceppi.	29 Put him to work, for that is what befits him; if he becomes unruly, load him with chains.
30 Ma non esagerare con nessun uomo, e non far nulla contro il diritto.	30 But never lord it over any human being, and do nothing unjust.
31 Se hai uno schiavo, sia come te, perché l'hai comprato a prezzo di sangue.	31 If you have but one slave, treat him like yourself, for you have acquired him with your life's blood;
32 Se hai uno schiavo, trattalo da fratello, perché ti necessita come la tua vita.	32 If you have but one slave, deal with him as a brother, for you need him as you need your life:
33 Se, maltrattato, fugge e t'abbandona, in quale via lo cercherai?	33 If you mistreat him and he runs away, in what direction will you look for him?
