1 Eliu proseguì dicendo:	1 Elihu proceeded further and said:
2 "Aspetta un poco e ti istruirò, perché ci sono altre cose da dire in difesa di Dio.	2 Wait yet a little and I will instruct you, for there are still words to be said on God's behalf.
3 Attingerò la mia scienza da lontano, per rendere giustizia a colui che mi ha creato.	3 I will bring my knowledge from afar, and to my Maker I will accord the right.
4 Certo, le mie parole non sono menzognere, un sapiente consumato parla con te.	4 For indeed, my theme cannot fail me: the one perfect in knowledge I set before you.
5 Ecco, Dio è grande e non si ritrae, è potente per la fermezza delle sue decisioni.	5 Behold, God rejects the obstinate in heart; he preserves not the life of the wicked.
6 Non lascia vivere il malvagio e rende giustizia ai poveri.	6 He withholds not the just man's rights, but grants vindication to the oppressed,
7 Non distoglie dai giusti i suoi occhi, li fa sedere sul trono insieme ai re e li esalta per sempre.	7 And with kings upon thrones he sets them, exalted forever.
8 Ma se vengono legati in catene e sono stretti con corde di afflizione,	8 Or if they are bound with fetters and held fast by bonds of affliction,
9 fa loro conoscere le opere loro e le loro infedeltà, perché insuperbirono.	9 Then he makes known to them what they have done and their sins of boastful pride.
10 Apre loro gli orecchi per la correzione e li esorta ad allontanarsi dal male.	10 He opens their ears to correction and exhorts them to turn back from evil.
11 Se ascoltano e si sottomettono, finiranno i loro giorni nel benessere ed i loro anni nelle delizie.	11 If they obey and serve him, they spend their days in prosperity, their years in happiness.
12 Ma se non ascoltano, periranno di spada; spireranno senza rendersene conto.	12 But if they obey not, they perish; they die for lack of knowledge.
13 I perversi di cuore accumulano ira, non invocano aiuto, quando Dio li avvince in catene.	13 The impious in heart lay up anger for themselves; they cry not for help when he enchains them;
14 Pèrdono la vita in piena gioventù e la loro esistenza tra gli ieroduli.	14 Therefore they expire in youth, and perish among the reprobate.
15 Ma egli salva il povero mediante l'afflizione e gli schiude l'udito mediante la sofferenza.	15 But he saves the unfortunate through their affliction, and instructs them through distress.
16 Anche te intende sottrarre dal morso dell'angustia; avrai in cambio un luogo ampio e aperto, e la tavola che ti sarà servita sarà colma di vivande grasse.
17 Ma se tu incorri in un verdetto di condanna, verdetto e giudizio vinceranno.
18 La collera non ti trascini all'imprudenza, non ti seduca l'abbondanza del riscatto.
19 Varrà forse davanti a lui la tua implorazione nell'angustia, o tutte le risorse della tua forza?
20 Non sospirare a quella notte, quando i popoli vanno al loro luogo!	20
21 Bada di non volgerti all'iniquità, perché per questo sei stato provato dall'afflizione.	21 Take heed, turn not to evil; for you have preferred carousal to affliction.
22 Ecco, Dio è sublime nella sua potenza; quale maestro lo può uguagliare?	22 Behold, God is sublime in his power. What teacher is there like him?
23 Chi può indicargli il cammino, e chi può dirgli: "Hai commesso ingiustizia"?	23 Who prescribes for him his conduct, or who can say, "You have done wrong"?
24 Ricòrdati di celebrare la sua opera, che altri uomini hanno cantato.	24 Remember, you should extol his work, which men have praised in song.
25 Tutti gli uomini la ammirano, i mortali la contemplano da lontano.	25 All men contemplate it; man beholds it from afar.
26 Sì, Dio è grande, anche se non lo riconosciamo; il numero dei suoi anni è incalcolabile.	26 Lo, God is great beyond our knowledge; the number of his years is past searching out.
27 Egli attira le gocce d'acqua, che si condensano in vapore per la pioggia,	27 He holds in check the waterdrops that filter in rain through his mists,
28 che le nubi riverseranno, grondando sugli uomini in gran quantità.	28 Till the skies run with them and the showers rain down on mankind.
29 Chi può calcolare l'estensione delle nubi, l'alta posizione della sua tenda?
30 Ecco, come si spande la sua luce, con essa ricopre la profondità del mare.	30 Lo! he spreads the clouds in layers as the carpeting of his tent.
31 In tal modo sostenta i popoli, e dà loro il cibo in abbondanza.	31 For by these he nourishes the nations, and gives them food in abundance.
32 Arma le mani di folgori e le scaglia contro il bersaglio.	32 In his hands he holds the lightning, and he commands it to strike the mark.
33 Il suo tuono lo annuncia, attira l'ira contro l'iniquità.	33 His thunder speaks for him and incites the fury of the storm.
