1 Als Israel wegzog von Ägypten, Jakobs Haus vom Volk fremder Sprache,	1 Al eluia! When Israel came out of Egypt, the House of Jacob from a people of foreign speech,
2 da wurde Juda sein Heiligtum, Israel sein Herrschaftsgebiet.	2 Judah became his sanctuary, and Israel his domain.
3 Das Meer sah es und floh, der Jordan wich zurück.	3 The sea fled at the sight, the Jordan turned back,
4 Die Berge hüpften wie Widder, die Hügel wie Lämmer.	4 the mountains skipped like rams, the hil s like sheep.
5 Was hast du denn, Meer, daß du fliehst, du, Jordan, daß du zurückweichst?	5 Sea, what makes you flee? Jordan, why turn back?
6 Ihr Berge, was hüpft ihr wie Widder, ihr Hügel, wie Lämmer?	6 Why skip like rams, you mountains? Why like sheep, you hills?
7 Vor dem Antlitz deines Gebieters bebe nur, Erde, vor dem Antlitz des Gottes Jakobs!	7 Tremble, earth, at the coming of the Lord, at the coming of the God of Jacob,
8 Er wandelt den Felsen zum Teich, Kieselgestein zum Wasserquell.	8 who turns rock into pool, flint into fountain.
