A song of ascents. LORD, remember David and all his anxious care; | 1 LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions: |
How he swore an oath to the LORD, vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob: | 2 How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob; |
"I will not enter the house where I live, nor lie on the couch where I sleep; | 3 Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed; |
I will give my eyes no sleep, my eyelids no rest, | 4 I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids, |
Till I find a home for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." | 5 Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob. |
"We have heard of it in Ephrathah; we have found it in the fields of Jaar. | 6 Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood. |
Let us enter God's dwelling; let us worship at God's footstool." | 7 We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool. |
"Arise, LORD, come to your resting place, you and your majestic ark. | 8 Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength. |
Your priests will be clothed with justice; your faithful will shout for joy." | 9 Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy. |
For the sake of David your servant, do not reject your anointed. | 10 For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. |
The LORD swore an oath to David, a pledge never to be broken: "Your own offspring I will set upon your throne. | 11 The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. |
If your sons observe my covenant, the laws I shall teach them, Their sons, in turn, shall sit forever on your throne." | 12 If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore. |
Yes, the LORD has chosen Zion, desired it for a dwelling: | 13 For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. |
"This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I desire it. | 14 This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it. |
I will bless Zion with meat; its poor I will fill with bread. | 15 I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread. |
I will clothe its priests with blessing; its faithful shall shout for joy. | 16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy. |
There I will make a horn sprout for David's line; I will set a lamp for my anointed. | 17 There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed. |
His foes I will clothe with shame, but on him my crown shall gleam." | 18 His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish. |
