Vaikrà (ויקרא) - Levitico 24

1 וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
2 צו את בני ישראל ויקחו אליך שמן זית זך כתית למאור להעלת נר תמיד	2 'Order the Israelites to bring you crushed-olive oil for the lamp-stand, and keep a flame burning therecontinual y.
3 מחוץ לפרכת העדת באהל מועד יערך אתו אהרן מערב עד בקר לפני יהוה תמיד חקת עולם לדרתיכם	3 Aaron wil keep it permanently in trim from evening to morning, outside the curtain of the Testimony inthe Tent of Meeting, before Yahweh. This is a perpetual decree for your descendants:
4 על המנרה הטהרה יערך את הנרות לפני יהוה תמיד	4 Aaron wil keep the lamps permanently trimmed on the pure lamp-stand before Yahweh.
5 ולקחת סלת ואפית אתה שתים עשרה חלות שני עשרנים יהיה החלה האחת	5 'You will take wheaten flour and with it bake twelve loaves, each of two-tenths of an ephah.
6 ושמת אותם שתים מערכות שש המערכת על השלחן הטהר לפני יהוה	6 You will then place them in two rows of six on the pure table before Yahweh
7 ונתת על המערכת לבנה זכה והיתה ללחם לאזכרה אשה ליהוה	7 and put pure incense on each row, to make it food offered as a memorial, food burnt for Yahweh.
8 ביום השבת ביום השבת יערכנו לפני יהוה תמיד מאת בני ישראל ברית עולם	8 Every Sabbath they wil be arranged before Yahweh. The Israelites wil provide them as a permanentcovenant.
9 והיתה לאהרן ולבניו ואכלהו במקום קדש כי קדש קדשים הוא לו מאשי יהוה חק עולם	9 They wil belong to Aaron and his sons, who wil eat them inside the holy place since, for him, they arean especial y holy part of the food burnt for Yahweh. This is a permanent law.'
10 ויצא בן אשה ישראלית והוא בן איש מצרי בתוך בני ישראל וינצו במחנה בן הישראלית ואיש הישראלי	10 There was a man whose mother was an Israelite woman and whose father was an Egyptian. Hecame out of his house and, in the camp, surrounded by the Israelites, he began to quarrel with a man who wasan Israelite.
11 ויקב בן האשה הישראלית את השם ויקלל ויביאו אתו אל משה ושם אמו שלמית בת דברי למטה דן	11 Now the son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name and cursed it. He was then taken toMoses (his mother's name was Shelomith daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan).
12 ויניחהו במשמר לפרש להם על פי יהוה	12 He was then put under guard until Yahweh's will should be made clear to them.
13 וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר	13 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
14 הוצא את המקלל אל מחוץ למחנה וסמכו כל השמעים את ידיהם על ראשו ורגמו אתו כל העדה	14 'Take the man who pronounced the curse outside the camp. Al those who heard him must then laytheir hands on his head, and the whole community must then stone him.
15 ואל בני ישראל תדבר לאמר איש איש כי יקלל אלהיו ונשא חטאו	15 Then say to the Israelites: "Anyone who curses his God will bear the consequences of his sin,
16 ונקב שם יהוה מות יומת רגום ירגמו בו כל העדה כגר כאזרח בנקבו שם יומת	16 and anyone who blasphemes the name of Yahweh wil be put to death; the whole community wilstone him; be he alien or native-born, if he blasphemes the Name, he wil be put to death.
17 ואיש כי יכה כל נפש אדם מות יומת	17 "Anyone who strikes down any other human being will be put to death.
18 ומכה נפש בהמה ישלמנה נפש תחת נפש	18 "Anyone who strikes down an animal will make restitution for it: a life for a life.
19 ואיש כי יתן מום בעמיתו כאשר עשה כן יעשה לו	19 "Anyone who injures a neighbour shall receive the same in return,
20 שבר תחת שבר עין תחת עין שן תחת שן כאשר יתן מום באדם כן ינתן בו	20 broken limb for broken limb, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. As the injury inflicted, so will be the injurysuffered.
21 ומכה בהמה ישלמנה ומכה אדם יומת	21 Whoever strikes down an animal wil make restitution for it, and whoever strikes down a human beingwil be put to death.
22 משפט אחד יהיה לכם כגר כאזרח יהיה כי אני יהוה אלהיכם	22 The sentence you pass wil be the same, whether on native-born or on alien; for I am Yahweh yourGod." '
23 וידבר משה אל בני ישראל ויוציאו את המקלל אל מחוץ למחנה וירגמו אתו אבן ובני ישראל עשו כאשר צוה יהוה את משה	23 Moses having told the Israelites this, they took the man who had pronounced the curse out of thecamp and stoned him. And so the Israelites carried out Yahweh's order to Moses.
