LXXNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
εγω ανηρ ο βλεπων πτωχειαν εν ραβδω θυμου αυτου επ' εμε1 I am a man who knows affliction from the rod of his anger,
παρελαβεν με και απηγαγεν εις σκοτος και ου φως2 One whom he has led and forced to walk in darkness, not in the light;
πλην εν εμοι επεστρεψεν χειρα αυτου ολην την ημεραν3 Against me alone he brings back his hand again and again all the day.
επαλαιωσεν σαρκας μου και δερμα μου οστεα μου συνετριψεν4 He has worn away my flesh and my skin, he has broken my bones;
ανωκοδομησεν κατ' εμου και εκυκλωσεν κεφαλην μου και εμοχθησεν5 He has beset me round about with poverty and weariness;
εν σκοτεινοις εκαθισεν με ως νεκρους αιωνος6 He has left me to dwell in the dark like those long dead.
ανωκοδομησεν κατ' εμου και ουκ εξελευσομαι εβαρυνεν χαλκον μου7 He has hemmed me in with no escape and weighed me down with chains;
και γε κεκραξομαι και βοησω απεφραξεν προσευχην μου8 Even when I cry out for help, he stops my prayer;
ανωκοδομησεν οδους μου ενεφραξεν τριβους μου εταραξεν9 He has blocked my ways with fitted stones, and turned my paths aside.
αρκος ενεδρευουσα αυτος μοι λεων εν κρυφαιοις10 A lurking bear he has been to me, a lion in ambush!
κατεδιωξεν αφεστηκοτα και κατεπαυσεν με εθετο με ηφανισμενην11 He deranged my ways, set me astray, left me desolate.
ενετεινεν τοξον αυτου και εστηλωσεν με ως σκοπον εις βελος12 He bent his bow, and set me up as the target for his arrow.
εισηγαγεν τοις νεφροις μου ιους φαρετρας αυτου13 He pierces my sides with shafts from his quiver.
εγενηθην γελως παντι λαω μου ψαλμος αυτων ολην την ημεραν14 I have become a laughingstock for all nations, their taunt all the day long;
εχορτασεν με πικριας εμεθυσεν με χολης15 He has sated me with bitter food, made me drink my fill of wormwood.
και εξεβαλεν ψηφω οδοντας μου εψωμισεν με σποδον16 He has broken my teeth with gravel, pressed my face in the dust;
και απωσατο εξ ειρηνης ψυχην μου επελαθομην αγαθα17 My soul is deprived of peace, I have forgotten what happiness is;
και ειπα απωλετο νεικος μου και η ελπις μου απο κυριου18 I tell myself my future is lost, all that I hoped for from the LORD.
εμνησθην απο πτωχειας μου και εκ διωγμου μου πικριας και χολης μου19 The thought of my homeless poverty is wormwood and gall;
μνησθησεται και καταδολεσχησει επ' εμε η ψυχη μου20 Remembering it over and over leaves my soul downcast within me.
ταυτην ταξω εις την καρδιαν μου δια τουτο υπομενω21 But I will call this to mind, as my reason to have hope:
-22 The favors of the LORD are not exhausted, his mercies are not spent;
-23 They are renewed each morning, so great is his faithfulness.
-24 My portion is the LORD, says my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
αγαθος κυριος τοις υπομενουσιν αυτον ψυχη η ζητησει αυτον αγαθον25 Good is the LORD to one who waits for him, to the soul that seeks him;
και υπομενει και ησυχασει εις το σωτηριον κυριου26 It is good to hope in silence for the saving help of the LORD.
αγαθον ανδρι οταν αρη ζυγον εν νεοτητι αυτου27 It is good for a man to bear the yoke from his youth.
καθησεται κατα μονας και σιωπησεται οτι ηρεν εφ' εαυτω28 Let him sit alone and in silence, when it is laid upon him.
-29 Let him put his mouth to the dust; there may yet be hope.
δωσει τω παιοντι αυτον σιαγονα χορτασθησεται ονειδισμων30 Let him offer his cheek to be struck, let him be filled with disgrace.
οτι ουκ εις τον αιωνα απωσεται κυριος31 For the Lord's rejection does not last forever;
οτι ο ταπεινωσας οικτιρησει κατα το πληθος του ελεους αυτου32 Though he punishes, he takes pity, in the abundance of his mercies;
οτι ουκ απεκριθη απο καρδιας αυτου και εταπεινωσεν υιους ανδρος33 He has no joy in afflicting or grieving the sons of men.
του ταπεινωσαι υπο τους ποδας αυτου παντας δεσμιους γης34 When anyone tramples underfoot all the prisoners in the land,
του εκκλιναι κρισιν ανδρος κατεναντι προσωπου υψιστου35 When he distorts men's rights in the very sight of the Most High,
καταδικασαι ανθρωπον εν τω κρινεσθαι αυτον κυριος ουκ ειπεν36 When he presses a crooked claim, the Lord does not look on unconcerned.
τις ουτως ειπεν και εγενηθη κυριος ουκ ενετειλατο37 Who commands so that it comes to pass, except the Lord ordains it;
εκ στοματος υψιστου ουκ εξελευσεται τα κακα και το αγαθον38 Except it proceeds from the mouth of the Most High, whether the thing be good or bad!
τι γογγυσει ανθρωπος ζων ανηρ περι της αμαρτιας αυτου39 Why should any living man complain, any mortal, in the face of his sins?
εξηρευνηθη η οδος ημων και ητασθη και επιστρεψωμεν εως κυριου40 Let us search and examine our ways that we may return to the LORD!
αναλαβωμεν καρδιας ημων επι χειρων προς υψηλον εν ουρανω41 Let us reach out our hearts toward God in heaven!
ημαρτησαμεν ησεβησαμεν και ουχ ιλασθης42 We have sinned and rebelled; you have not forgiven us.
επεσκεπασας εν θυμω και απεδιωξας ημας απεκτεινας ουκ εφεισω43 You veiled yourself in wrath and pursued us, you slew us and took no pity;
επεσκεπασας νεφελην σεαυτω εινεκεν προσευχης44 You wrapped yourself in a cloud which prayer could not pierce.
καμμυσαι με και απωσθηναι εθηκας ημας εν μεσω των λαων45 You have made us offscourings and refuse among the nations.
διηνοιξαν εφ' ημας το στομα αυτων παντες οι εχθροι ημων46 All our enemies have opened their mouths against us;
φοβος και θυμος εγενηθη ημιν επαρσις και συντριβη47 Terror and the pit have been our lot, desolation and destruction;
αφεσεις υδατων καταξει ο οφθαλμος μου επι το συντριμμα της θυγατρος του λαου μου48 My eyes run with streams of water over the downfall of the daughter of my people.
ο οφθαλμος μου κατεποθη και ου σιγησομαι του μη ειναι εκνηψιν49 My eyes flow without ceasing, there is no respite,
εως ου διακυψη και ιδη κυριος εξ ουρανου50 Till the LORD from heaven looks down and sees.
ο οφθαλμος μου επιφυλλιει επι την ψυχην μου παρα πασας θυγατερας πολεως51 My eyes torment my soul at the sight of all the daughters of my city.
θηρευοντες εθηρευσαν με ως στρουθιον οι εχθροι μου δωρεαν52 Those who were my enemies without cause hunted me down like a bird;
εθανατωσαν εν λακκω ζωην μου και επεθηκαν λιθον επ' εμοι53 They struck me down alive in the pit, and sealed me in with a stone.
υπερεχυθη υδωρ επι κεφαλην μου ειπα απωσμαι54 The waters flowed over my head, and I said, "I am lost!"
επεκαλεσαμην το ονομα σου κυριε εκ λακκου κατωτατου55 I called upon your name, O LORD, from the bottom of the pit;
φωνην μου ηκουσας μη κρυψης τα ωτα σου εις την δεησιν μου56 You heard me call, "Let not your ear be deaf to my cry for help!"
εις την βοηθειαν μου ηγγισας εν η σε ημερα επεκαλεσαμην ειπας μοι μη φοβου57 You came to my aid when I called to you; you said, "Have no fear!"
εδικασας κυριε τας δικας της ψυχης μου ελυτρωσω την ζωην μου58 You defended me in mortal danger, you redeemed my life.
ειδες κυριε τας ταραχας μου εκρινας την κρισιν μου59 You see, O LORD, how I am wronged; do me justice!
ειδες πασαν την εκδικησιν αυτων εις παντας διαλογισμους αυτων εν εμοι60 You see all their vindictiveness, all their plots against me.
ηκουσας τον ονειδισμον αυτων παντας τους διαλογισμους αυτων κατ' εμου61 You hear their insults, O LORD, (all their plots against me),
χειλη επανιστανομενων μοι και μελετας αυτων κατ' εμου ολην την ημεραν62 The whispered murmurings of my foes, against me all the day;
καθεδραν αυτων και αναστασιν αυτων επιβλεψον επι τους οφθαλμους αυτων63 Whether they sit or stand, see, I am their taunt song.
αποδωσεις αυτοις ανταποδομα κυριε κατα τα εργα των χειρων αυτων64 Requite them as they deserve, O LORD, according to their deeds;
αποδωσεις αυτοις υπερασπισμον καρδιας μοχθον σου αυτοις65 Give them hardness of heart, as your curse upon them;
καταδιωξεις εν οργη και εξαναλωσεις αυτους υποκατω του ουρανου κυριε66 Pursue them in wrath and destroy them from under your heavens!
