εγω δε εωρακα αφρονας ριζαν βαλλοντας αλλ' ευθεως εβρωθη αυτων η διαιτα | 3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house. |
πορρω γενοιντο οι υιοι αυτων απο σωτηριας κολαβρισθειησαν δε επι θυραις ησσονων και ουκ εσται ο εξαιρουμενος | 4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them; |
α γαρ εκεινοι συνηγαγον δικαιοι εδονται αυτοι δε εκ κακων ουκ εξαιρετοι εσονται εκσιφωνισθειη αυτων η ισχυς | 5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions. |
ου γαρ μη εξελθη εκ της γης κοπος ουδε εξ ορεων αναβλαστησει πονος | 6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground. |
αλλα ανθρωπος γενναται κοπω νεοσσοι δε γυπος τα υψηλα πετονται | 7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height. |
ου μην δε αλλα εγω δεηθησομαι κυριου κυριον δε τον παντων δεσποτην επικαλεσομαι | 8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him. |
τον ποιουντα μεγαλα και ανεξιχνιαστα ενδοξα τε και εξαισια ων ουκ εστιν αριθμος | 9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting. |
τον διδοντα υετον επι την γην αποστελλοντα υδωρ επι την υπ' ουρανον | 10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields. |
τον ποιουντα ταπεινους εις υψος και απολωλοτας εξεγειροντα | 11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity, |
διαλλασσοντα βουλας πανουργων και ου μη ποιησουσιν αι χειρες αυτων αληθες | 12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues. |
ο καταλαμβανων σοφους εν τη φρονησει βουλην δε πολυπλοκων εξεστησεν | 13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray. |
ημερας συναντησεται αυτοις σκοτος το δε μεσημβρινον ψηλαφησαισαν ισα νυκτι | 14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night. |
απολοιντο δε εν πολεμω αδυνατος δε εξελθοι εκ χειρος δυναστου | 15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty. |
ειη δε αδυνατω ελπις αδικου δε στομα εμφραχθειη | 16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth. |
μακαριος δε ανθρωπος ον ηλεγξεν ο κυριος νουθετημα δε παντοκρατορος μη απαναινου | 17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai! |
αυτος γαρ αλγειν ποιει και παλιν αποκαθιστησιν επαισεν και αι χειρες αυτου ιασαντο | 18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals. |
εξακις εξ αναγκων σε εξελειται εν δε τω εβδομω ου μη αψηται σου κακον | 19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you. |
εν λιμω ρυσεται σε εκ θανατου εν πολεμω δε εκ χειρος σιδηρου λυσει σε | 20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword. |

αδικων και ανομων καταγελαση απο δε θηριων αγριων ου μη φοβηθης | 22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth. |
θηρες γαρ αγριοι ειρηνευσουσιν σοι | 23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts. |
ειτα γνωση οτι ειρηνευσει σου ο οικος η δε διαιτα της σκηνης σου ου μη αμαρτη | 24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it. |
γνωση δε οτι πολυ το σπερμα σου τα δε τεκνα σου εσται ωσπερ το παμβοτανον του αγρου | 25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields. |
ελευση δε εν ταφω ωσπερ σιτος ωριμος κατα καιρον θεριζομενος η ωσπερ θιμωνια αλωνος καθ' ωραν συγκομισθεισα | 26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season. |
