1 Meine Brüder, haltet den Glauben an unseren Herrn Jesus Christus, den Herrn der Herrlichkeit, frei von jedem Ansehen der Person.	1 My brothers, within the glorious faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, do not choose to show favoritism toward persons.
2 Wenn in eure Versammlung ein Mann mit goldenen Ringen und prächtiger Kleidung kommt, und zugleich kommt ein Armer in schmutziger Kleidung,	2 For if a man has entered your assembly having a gold ring and splendid apparel, and if a poor man has also entered, in dirty clothing,
3 und ihr blickt auf den Mann in der prächtigen Kleidung und sagt: Setz dich hier auf den guten Platz!, und zu dem Armen sagt ihr: Du kannst dort stehen!, oder: Setz dich zu meinen Füßen! -	3 and if you are then attentive to the one who is clothed in excellent apparel, so that you say to him, “You may sit in this good place,” but you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit below my footstool,”
4 macht ihr dann nicht untereinander Unterschiede und fällt Urteile aufgrund verwerflicher Überlegungen?	4 are you not judging within yourselves, and have you not become judges with unjust thoughts?
5 Hört, meine geliebten Brüder: Hat Gott nicht die Armen in der Welt auserwählt, um sie durch den Glauben reich und zu Erben des Königreichs zu machen, das er denen verheißen hat, die ihn lieben?	5 My most beloved brothers, listen. Has not God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that God has promised to those who love him?
6 Ihr aber verachtet den Armen. Sind es nicht die Reichen, die euch unterdrücken und euch vor die Gerichte schleppen?	6 But you have dishonored the poor. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you through power? And are not they the ones who drag you to judgment?
7 Sind nicht sie es, die den hohen Namen lästern, der über euch ausgerufen worden ist?	7 Are not they the ones who blaspheme the good name which has been invoked over you?
8 Wenn ihr dagegen nach dem Wort der Schrift: Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst! das königliche Gesetz erfüllt, dann handelt ihr recht.	8 So if you perfect the regal law, according to the Scriptures, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” then you do well.
9 Wenn ihr aber nach dem Ansehen der Person urteilt, begeht ihr eine Sünde und aus dem Gesetz selbst wird offenbar, dass ihr es übertreten habt.	9 But if you show favoritism to persons, then you commit a sin, having been convicted again by the law as transgressors.
10 Wer das ganze Gesetz hält und nur gegen ein einziges Gebot verstößt, der hat sich gegen alle verfehlt.	10 Now whoever has observed the whole law, yet who offends in one matter, has become guilty of all.
11 Denn er, der gesagt hat: Du sollst nicht die Ehe brechen!, hat auch gesagt: Du sollst nicht töten! Wenn du nicht die Ehe brichst, aber tötest, hast du das Gesetz übertreten.	11 For he who said, “You shall not commit adultery,” also said, “You shall not kill.” So if you do not commit adultery, but you kill, you have become a transgressor of the law.
12 Darum redet und handelt wie Menschen, die nach dem Gesetz der Freiheit gerichtet werden.	12 So speak and act just as you are beginning to be judged, by the law of liberty.
13 Denn das Gericht ist erbarmungslos gegen den, der kein Erbarmen gezeigt hat. Barmherzigkeit aber triumphiert über das Gericht.	13 For judgment is without mercy toward him who has not shown mercy. But mercy exalts itself above judgment.
14 Meine Brüder, was nützt es, wenn einer sagt, er habe Glauben, aber es fehlen die Werke? Kann etwa der Glaube ihn retten?	14 My brothers, what benefit is there if someone claims to have faith, but he does not have works? How would faith be able to save him?
15 Wenn ein Bruder oder eine Schwester ohne Kleidung ist und ohne das tägliche Brot	15 So if a brother or sister is naked and daily in need of food,
16 und einer von euch zu ihnen sagt: Geht in Frieden, wärmt und sättigt euch!, ihr gebt ihnen aber nicht, was sie zum Leben brauchen - was nützt das?	16 and if anyone of you were to say to them: “Go in peace, keep warm and nourished,” and yet not give them the things that are necessary for the body, of what benefit is this?
17 So ist auch der Glaube für sich allein tot, wenn er nicht Werke vorzuweisen hat.	17 Thus even faith, if it does not have works, is dead, in and of itself.
18 Nun könnte einer sagen: Du hast Glauben und ich kann Werke vorweisen; zeig mir deinen Glauben ohne die Werke und ich zeige dir meinen Glauben aufgrund der Werke.	18 Now someone may say: “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works! But I will show you my faith by means of works.
19 Du glaubst: Es gibt nur den einen Gott. Damit hast du Recht; das glauben auch die Dämonen und sie zittern.	19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. But the demons also believe, and they tremble greatly.
20 Willst du also einsehen, du unvernünftiger Mensch, dass der Glaube ohne Werke nutzlos ist?	20 So then, are you willing to understand, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Wurde unser Vater Abraham nicht aufgrund seiner Werke als gerecht anerkannt? Denn er hat seinen Sohn Isaak als Opfer auf den Altar gelegt.	21 Was not our father Abraham justified by means of works, by offering his son Isaac upon the altar?
22 Du siehst, dass bei ihm der Glaube und die Werke zusammenwirkten und dass erst durch die Werke der Glaube vollendet wurde.	22 Do you see that faith was cooperating with his works, and that by means of works faith was brought to fulfillment?
23 So hat sich das Wort der Schrift erfüllt: Abraham glaubte Gott, und das wurde ihm als Gerechtigkeit angerechnet, und er wurde Freund Gottes genannt.	23 And so the Scripture was fulfilled which says: “Abraham believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice.” And so he was called the friend of God.
24 Ihr seht, dass der Mensch aufgrund seiner Werke gerecht wird, nicht durch den Glauben allein.	24 Do you see that a man is justified by means of works, and not by faith alone?
25 Wurde nicht ebenso auch die Dirne Rahab durch ihre Werke als gerecht anerkannt, weil sie die Boten bei sich aufnahm und dann auf einem anderen Weg entkommen ließ?	25 Similarly also, Rahab, the harlot, was she not justified by works, by receiving the messengers and sending them out through another way?
26 Denn wie der Körper ohne den Geist tot ist, so ist auch der Glaube tot ohne Werke.	26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
