1 Paulus, durch Gottes Willen Apostel Christi Jesu, und der Bruder Timotheus an die Kirche Gottes, die in Korinth ist, und an alle Heiligen in ganz Achaia.	1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother. To the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia:
2 Gnade sei mit euch und Friede von Gott, unserem Vater, und dem Herrn Jesus Christus.	2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Gepriesen sei der Gott und Vater Jesu Christi, unseres Herrn, der Vater des Erbarmens und der Gott allen Trostes.	3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
4 Er tröstet uns in all unserer Not, damit auch wir die Kraft haben, alle zu trösten, die in Not sind, durch den Trost, mit dem auch wir von Gott getröstet werden.	4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
5 Wie uns nämlich die Leiden Christi überreich zuteil geworden sind, so wird uns durch Christus auch überreicher Trost zuteil.	5 For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.
6 Sind wir aber in Not, so ist es zu eurem Trost und Heil, und werden wir getröstet, so geschieht auch das zu eurem Trost; er wird wirksam, wenn ihr geduldig die gleichen Leiden ertragt, die auch wir ertragen.	6 If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer.
7 Unsere Hoffnung für euch ist unerschütterlich; wir sind sicher, dass ihr mit uns nicht nur an den Leiden teilhabt, sondern auch am Trost.	7 Our hope for you is unshaken; for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.
8 Wir wollen euch die Not nicht verschweigen, Brüder, die in der Provinz Asien über uns kam und uns über alles Maß bedrückte; unsere Kraft war erschöpft, so sehr, dass wir am Leben verzweifelten.	8 For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of the affliction we experienced in Asia; for we were so utterly, unbearably crushed that we despaired of life itself.
9 Aber wir haben unser Todesurteil hingenommen, weil wir unser Vertrauen nicht auf uns selbst setzen wollten, sondern auf Gott, der die Toten auferweckt.	9 Why, we felt that we had received the sentence of death; but that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead;
10 Er hat uns aus dieser großen Todesnot errettet und rettet uns noch; auf ihm ruht unsere Hoffnung, dass er uns auch in Zukunft retten wird.	10 he delivered us from so deadly a peril, and he will deliver us; on him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.
11 Helft aber auch ihr, indem ihr für uns betet, damit viele Menschen in unserem Namen Dank sagen für die Gnade, die uns geschenkt wurde.	11 You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us in answer to many prayers.
12 Denn das ist unser Ruhm - und dafür zeugt auch unser Gewissen -, dass wir in dieser Welt, vor allem euch gegenüber, in der Aufrichtigkeit und Lauterkeit, wie Gott sie schenkt, gehandelt haben, nicht aufgrund menschlicher Weisheit, sondern aufgrund göttlicher Gnade.	12 For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience that we have behaved in the world, and still more toward you, with holiness and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God.
13 Und wenn wir euch schreiben, meinen wir nichts anderes, als was ihr lest und versteht; ich hoffe, ihr werdet noch ganz verstehen,	13 For we write you nothing but what you can read and understand; I hope you will understand fully,
14 was wir meinen und was ihr zum Teil schon verstanden habt, nämlich dass ihr am Tag Jesu, unseres Herrn, auf uns stolz sein dürft, so wie wir auf euch.	14 as you have understood in part, that you can be proud of us as we can be of you, on the day of the Lord Jesus.
15 In dieser Zuversicht wollte ich zunächst zu euch kommen, damit ihr ein zweites Mal Gnade erfahren hättet.	15 Because I was sure of this, I wanted to come to you first, so that you might have a double pleasure;
16 Von euch wollte ich dann nach Mazedonien reisen und von Mazedonien zu euch zurückkommen, um von euch nach Judäa geleitet zu werden.	16 I wanted to visit you on my way to Macedonia, and to come back to you from Macedonia and have you send me on my way to Judea.
17 War dieser Entschluss etwa leichtsinnig? Plane ich, wie manche Menschen planen, sodass mein Ja auch ein Nein sein kann?	17 Was I vacillating when I wanted to do this? Do I make my plans like a worldly man, ready to say Yes and No at once?
18 Gott ist treu, er bürgt dafür, dass unser Wort euch gegenüber nicht Ja und Nein zugleich ist.	18 As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No.
19 Denn Gottes Sohn Jesus Christus, der euch durch uns verkündigt wurde - durch mich, Silvanus und Timotheus -, ist nicht als Ja und Nein zugleich gekommen; in ihm ist das Ja verwirklicht.	19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we preached among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No; but in him it is always Yes.
20 Er ist das Ja zu allem, was Gott verheißen hat. Darum rufen wir durch ihn zu Gottes Lobpreis auch das Amen.	20 For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why we utter the Amen through him, to the glory of God.
21 Gott aber, der uns und euch in der Treue zu Christus festigt und der uns alle gesalbt hat,	21 But it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has commissioned us;
22 er ist es auch, der uns sein Siegel aufgedrückt und als ersten Anteil (am verheißenen Heil) den Geist in unser Herz gegeben hat.	22 he has put his seal upon us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
23 Ich rufe aber Gott zum Zeugen an und schwöre bei meinem Leben, dass ich nur, um euch zu schonen, nicht mehr nach Korinth gekommen bin.	23 But I call God to witness against me--it was to spare you that I refrained from coming to Corinth.
24 Wir wollen ja nicht Herren über euren Glauben sein, sondern wir sind Helfer zu eurer Freude; denn im Glauben seid ihr fest verwurzelt.	24 Not that we lord it over your faith; we work with you for your joy, for you stand firm in your faith.
