EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL	KING JAMES BIBLE
1 Die Israeliten brachen auf und schlugen ihr Lager in den Steppen von Moab auf, jenseits des Jordan bei Jericho.	1 And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho.
2 Balak, der Sohn Zippors, hatte gesehen, was Israel den Amoritern alles angetan hatte.	2 And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
3 Moab erschrak sehr vor dem Volk (der Israeliten), weil es so groß war, und es packte ihn das Grauen vor den Israeliten.	3 And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.
4 Da sagte Moab zu den Ältesten von Midian: Jetzt wird uns dieser Haufen ringsum alles abfressen, wie die Rinder das Gras auf den Weiden abgrasen. Damals war Balak, der Sohn Zippors, König von Moab.	4 And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.
5 Er schickte Boten zu Bileam, dem Sohn Beors, nach Petor am Strom, ins Land seiner Stammesgenossen, um ihn rufen zu lassen. Er ließ ihm sagen: Aus Ägypten ist ein Volk herangezogen, das das ganze Land bedeckt und nun mir gegenüber sich niedergelassen hat.	5 He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me:
6 Darum komm her und verfluch mir dieses Volk; denn es ist zu mächtig für mich. Vielleicht kann ich es dann schlagen und aus dem Land vertreiben. Ich weiß: Wen du segnest, der ist gesegnet; wen du verfluchst, der ist verflucht.	6 Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.
7 Die Ältesten von Moab und die Ältesten von Midian machten sich auf den Weg, mit Wahrsagerlohn in den Händen. Als sie zu Bileam kamen, wiederholten sie ihm die Worte Balaks.	7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.
8 Bileam sagte zu ihnen: Bleibt über Nacht hier, dann werde ich euch berichten, was der Herr zu mir sagt. Da blieben die Hofleute aus Moab bei Bileam.	8 And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.
9 Gott kam zu Bileam und fragte ihn: Wer sind die Männer, die bei dir wohnen?	9 And God came unto Balaam, and said, What men are these with thee?
10 Bileam antwortete Gott: Balak, der Sohn Zippors, der König von Moab, hat Boten zu mir geschickt und lässt mir sagen:	10 And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me, saying,
11 Das Volk, das aus Ägypten herangezogen ist, bedeckt das ganze Land. Darum komm und verwünsch es für mich! Vielleicht kann ich es dann im Kampf besiegen und vertreiben.	11 Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.
12 Gott antwortete Bileam: Geh nicht mit! Verfluch das Volk nicht; denn es ist gesegnet.	12 And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed.
13 Am Morgen stand Bileam auf und sagte zu den Hofleuten Balaks: Kehrt in euer Land zurück; denn der Herr erlaubt mir nicht, mit euch zu gehen.	13 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land: for the LORD refuseth to give me leave to go with you.
14 Da machten sich die Hofleute aus Moab auf den Weg und kehrten zu Balak zurück. Sie berichteten: Bileam hat sich geweigert, mit uns zu kommen.	14 And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Balaam refuseth to come with us.
15 Balak schickte noch einmal Hofleute aus, mehr und vornehmere als das erste Mal.	15 And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.
16 Sie kamen zu Bileam und sagten zu ihm: So sagt Balak, der Sohn Zippors: Lass dich nicht abhalten, zu mir zu kommen.	16 And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:
17 Ich will dir einen sehr hohen Lohn geben; alles, was du von mir verlangst, will ich tun. Nur komm und verwünsch mir dieses Volk!	17 For I will promote thee unto very great honour, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.
18 Bileam antwortete den Dienern Balaks: Auch wenn mir Balak sein Haus voll Silber und Gold gäbe, könnte ich dem Befehl des Herrn, meines Gottes, nicht zuwiderhandeln, sei es in einer unwichtigen oder einer wichtigen Sache.	18 And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.
19 Doch bleibt auch ihr jetzt über Nacht hier, bis ich weiß, was der Herr weiter zu mir sagt.	19 Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more.
20 In der Nacht kam Gott zu Bileam und sprach zu ihm: Wenn die Männer gekommen sind, um dich zu holen, dann mach dich auf den Weg und geh mit! Aber du darfst nur das tun, was ich dir sage.	20 And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.
21 Am Morgen stand Bileam auf, sattelte seinen Esel und ging mit den Hofleuten aus Moab.	21 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
22 Aber Gott wurde zornig, weil Bileam mitging, und der Engel des Herrn trat Bileam in feindlicher Absicht in den Weg, als Bileam, begleitet von zwei jungen Männern, auf seinem Esel dahinritt.	22 And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.
23 Der Esel sah den Engel des Herrn auf dem Weg stehen, mit dem gezückten Schwert in der Hand, und er verließ den Weg und wich ins Feld aus. Da schlug ihn Bileam, um ihn auf den Weg zurückzubringen.	23 And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.
24 Darauf stellte sich der Engel des Herrn auf den engen Weg zwischen den Weinbergen, der zu beiden Seiten Mauern hatte.	24 But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.
25 Als der Esel den Engel des Herrn sah, drückte er sich an der Mauer entlang und drückte dabei das Bein Bileams gegen die Mauer. Da schlug ihn Bileam wieder.	25 And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he smote her again.
26 Der Engel des Herrn ging weiter und stellte sich an eine besonders enge Stelle, wo es weder rechts noch links eine Möglichkeit gab auszuweichen.	26 And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
27 Als der Esel den Engel des Herrn sah, ging er unter Bileam in die Knie. Bileam aber wurde wütend und schlug den Esel mit dem Stock.	27 And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.
28 Da öffnete der Herr dem Esel den Mund und der Esel sagte zu Bileam: Was habe ich dir getan, dass du mich jetzt schon zum dritten Mal schlägst?	28 And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?
29 Bileam erwiderte dem Esel: Weil du mich zum Narren hältst. Hätte ich ein Schwert dabei, dann hätte ich dich schon umgebracht.	29 And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.
30 Der Esel antwortete Bileam: Bin ich nicht dein Esel, auf dem du seit eh und je bis heute geritten bist? War es etwa je meine Gewohnheit, mich so gegen dich zu benehmen? Da musste Bileam zugeben: Nein.	30 And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.
31 Nun öffnete der Herr dem Bileam die Augen und er sah den Engel des Herrn auf dem Weg stehen, mit dem gezückten Schwert in der Hand. Da verneigte sich Bileam und warf sich auf sein Gesicht nieder.	31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.
32 Der Engel des Herrn sagte zu ihm: Warum hast du deinen Esel dreimal geschlagen? Ich bin dir feindlich in den Weg getreten, weil mir der Weg, den du gehst, zu abschüssig ist.	32 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:
33 Der Esel hat mich gesehen und ist mir schon dreimal ausgewichen. Wäre er mir nicht ausgewichen, dann hätte ich dich vielleicht jetzt schon umgebracht, ihn aber am Leben gelassen.	33 And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.
34 Bileam antwortete dem Engel des Herrn: Ich habe gesündigt, aber nur, weil ich nicht wusste, dass du mir im Weg standest. Jetzt aber will ich umkehren, wenn dir mein Vorhaben nicht recht ist.	34 And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.
35 Der Engel des Herrn antwortete Bileam: Geh mit den Männern, aber rede nichts, außer was ich dir sage. Da ging Bileam mit den Hofleuten Balaks.	35 And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
36 Als Balak hörte, dass Bileam kam, ging er ihm entgegen bis zur Grenzstadt Moabs am Arnon, unmittelbar an der Grenze.	36 And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.
37 Balak sagte zu Bileam: Ich hatte dich rufen lassen. Warum bist du nicht zu mir gekommen? Kann ich dir nicht einen hohen Lohn geben?	37 And Balak said unto Balaam, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honour?
38 Bileam antwortete Balak: Jetzt bin ich zwar bei dir. Aber kann ich jetzt etwas reden? Ich kann nur sagen, was Gott mir in den Mund legt.	38 And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.
39 Bileam ging mit Balak weiter nach Kirjat-Huzot.	39 And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjath-huzoth.
40 Balak schlachtete Rinder und Schafe und ließ damit Bileam und die Hofleute, die dabei waren, bewirten.	40 And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.
41 Am nächsten Morgen nahm Balak Bileam mit sich und führte ihn zu den Baalshöhen hinauf. Von dort konnte er bis zum Volk sehen.	41 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.
