1 Im dreiundzwanzigsten Jahr des Joasch, des Sohnes Ahasjas, des Königs von Juda, wurde Joahas, der Sohn Jehus, König von Israel. Er regierte siebzehn Jahre in Samaria	1 In the twenty-third year of Joash, the son of Ahaziah, the king of Judah, Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, reigned over Israel, in Samaria, for seventeen years.
2 und tat, was dem Herrn missfiel; er hielt an der Sünde fest, zu der Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, Israel verführt hatte, und ließ nicht von ihr ab.	2 And he did evil before the Lord. And he followed the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin. And he did not turn aside from these.
3 Deswegen entbrannte der Zorn des Herrn gegen Israel. Er gab sie in die Gewalt Hasaëls, des Königs von Aram, und seines Sohnes Ben-Hadad, die ganze Zeit hindurch.	3 And the fury of the Lord was enraged against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael, the king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad, the son of Hazael, during all the days.
4 Als aber Joahas den Herrn besänftigte, erhörte ihn der Herr; denn er sah die Bedrängnis, die der König von Aram über Israel brachte.	4 But Jehoahaz petitioned the face of the Lord, and the Lord heeded him. For he saw the anguish of Israel, because the king of Syria had oppressed them.
5 Er gab Israel einen Helfer, sodass es sich aus der Gewalt Arams befreien konnte und die Israeliten wieder in ihren Zelten wohnten wie früher.	5 And the Lord gave a savior to Israel. And they were freed from the hand of the king of Syria. And the sons of Israel lived in their tabernacles, just as yesterday and the day before.
6 Doch ließen sie nicht von der Sünde ab, zu der das Haus Jerobeam Israel verführt hatte, sondern hielten an ihr fest. Auch der Kultpfahl blieb in Samaria stehen.	6 Yet truly, they did not withdraw from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who had caused Israel to sin. Instead, they walked by them. And there was even a sacred grove still remaining in Samaria.
7 Der Herr ließ vom Heer des Joahas nur fünfzig Wagenkämpfer, zehn Wagen und zehntausend Mann Fußtruppen übrig. Alles andere hatte der König von Aram vernichtet und dem Staub gleichgemacht, auf den man tritt.	7 And there was left to Jehoahaz from the people nothing but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand foot soldiers. For the king of Syria had killed them, and he had reduced them to become like dust on a threshing floor.
8 Die übrige Geschichte des Joahas, alle seine Taten und Erfolge, sind aufgezeichnet in der Chronik der Könige von Israel.	8 But the rest of the words of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his strength, have these not been written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
9 Er entschlief zu seinen Vätern; man begrub ihn in Samaria. Sein Sohn Joasch wurde König an seiner Stelle.	9 And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. And Joash, his son, reigned in his place.
10 Im siebenunddreißigsten Jahr des Königs Joasch von Juda wurde Joasch, der Sohn des Joahas, König von Israel. Er regierte sechzehn Jahre in Samaria	10 In the thirty-seventh year of Jehoash, the king of Judah, Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, reigned over Israel, in Samaria, for sixteen years.
11 und tat, was dem Herrn missfiel; er ließ nicht von der Sünde ab, zu der Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, Israel verführt hatte.	11 And he did what is evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not turn aside from all the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin. Instead, he walked by them.
12 Die übrige Geschichte des Joasch, alle seine Taten und Erfolge, wie er mit Amazja, dem König von Juda, Krieg führte, all das ist aufgezeichnet in der Chronik der Könige von Israel.	12 But the rest of the words of Joash, and all that he did, and his strength, the manner in which he fought against Amaziah, the king of Judah, have these not been written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
13 Joasch entschlief zu seinen Vätern und Jerobeam bestieg seinen Thron. Joasch wurde in Samaria bei den Königen von Israel begraben.	13 And Joash slept with his fathers. Then Jeroboam sat upon his throne. And Joash was buried in Samaria, with the kings of Israel.
14 Als Elischa von der Krankheit befallen wurde, an der er sterben sollte, ging Joasch, der König von Israel, zu ihm hinab. Er weinte vor ihm und rief: Mein Vater, mein Vater! Wagen Israels und sein Lenker!	14 Now Elisha was sick of the infirmity from which he also died. And Joash, the king of Israel, descended to him. And he was weeping before him, and saying: “My father, my father! The chariot of Israel and its driver!”
15 Doch Elischa befahl ihm: Hol einen Bogen und Pfeile! Er holte sie herbei.	15 And Elisha said to him, “Bring a bow and arrows.” And when he had brought a bow and arrows to him,
16 Dann sagte Elischa zum König von Israel: Leg deine Hand auf den Bogen! Da legte er die Hand auf den Bogen, Elischa aber legte seine Hände auf die Hände des Königs.	16 he said to the king of Israel, “Place your hand upon the bow.” And when he had placed his hand, Elisha place his own hands over the hands of the king.
17 Hierauf sagte er: Öffne das Fenster nach Osten! Der König öffnete es und Elischa forderte ihn auf zu schießen. Als er abschoss, rief Elischa: Ein Siegespfeil vom Herrn, ein Siegespfeil gegen Aram. Du wirst Aram bei Afek vernichtend schlagen.	17 And he said, “Open the window toward the east.” And when he had opened it, Elisha said, “Shoot an arrow.” And he shot it. And Elisha said: “It is the arrow of the salvation of the Lord, and the arrow of salvation against Syria. And you shall strike the Syrians at Aphek, until you consume them.”
18 Weiter sagte er: Nimm die Pfeile! Als der König von Israel sie genommen hatte, befahl ihm Elischa, auf den Boden zu schlagen. Der König tat drei Schläge und hielt dann inne.	18 And he said, “Take the arrows.” And when he had taken them, he then said to him, “Strike an arrow against the ground.” And when he had struck three times, and he had stood still,
19 Da wurde der Gottesmann unwillig über ihn und sagte: Du hättest fünf- oder sechsmal schlagen sollen; dann hättest du die Aramäer vernichtend geschlagen. Jetzt aber wirst du sie nur dreimal schlagen.	19 the man of God became angry against him. And he said: “If you had struck five or six or seven times, you would have struck down Syria, even until it was consumed. But now you will strike it three times.”
20 Elischa starb und man begrub ihn. In jenem Jahr fielen moabitische Räuberscharen in das Land ein.	20 Then Elisha died, and they buried him. And the robbers from Moab came into the land in the same year.
21 Als man einmal einen Toten begrub und eine dieser Scharen erblickte, warf man den Toten in das Grab Elischas und floh. Sobald aber der Tote die Gebeine Elischas berührte, wurde er wieder lebendig und richtete sich auf.	21 But certain ones who were burying a man saw the robbers, and they cast the dead body into the sepulcher of Elisha. But when it had touched the bones of Elisha, the man revived, and he stood upon his feet.
22 Hasaël, der König von Aram, bedrängte Israel, solange Joahas lebte.	22 Now Hazael, the king of Syria, afflicted Israel during all the days of Jehoahaz.
23 Doch der Herr war seinem Volk gnädig und hatte Erbarmen mit ihm. Wegen seines Bundes mit Abraham, Isaak und Jakob wandte er sich ihm wieder zu. Er wollte es nicht verderben und hatte es bis dahin nicht von seinem Angesicht verstoßen.	23 But the Lord took pity on them, and he returned to them, because of his covenant, which he had made with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob. And he was not willing to destroy them, nor to cast them out completely, even to the present time.
24 Als daher Hasaël, der König von Aram, starb und sein Sohn Ben-Hadad an seiner Stelle König wurde,	24 Then Hazael, the king of Syria, died. And Benhadad, his son, reigned in his place.
25 konnte Joasch, der Sohn des Joahas, Ben-Hadad, dem Sohn Hasaëls, die Städte wieder entreißen, die dieser seinem Vater Joahas im Krieg weggenommen hatte. Dreimal schlug ihn Joasch und gewann die israelitischen Städte zurück.	25 Now Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz, by a just war, took the cities from the hand of Benhadad, the son of Hazael, which he had taken from the hand of Jehoahaz, his father. Jehoash struck him three times, and he restored the cities to Israel.
