EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Der Zorn des Herrn entbrannte noch einmal gegen Israel und er reizte David gegen das Volk auf und sagte: Geh, zähl Israel und Juda!	1 Again, Yahweh's anger was aroused against Israel, and he incited David against them. 'Go,' he said,'take a census of Israel and Judah.'
2 Der König befahl Joab, dem Obersten des Heeres, der bei ihm war: Durchstreift alle Stämme Israels von Dan bis Beerscheba, und mustert das Volk, damit ich weiß, wie viele es sind.	2 The king said to Joab and the senior army officers who were with him, 'Now, go through al the tribesof Israel from Dan to Beersheba, and take a census of the people; I wish to know the size of the population.'
3 Joab aber sagte zum König: Der Herr, dein Gott, möge das Volk vermehren, hundertmal mehr, als es jetzt ist, und mein Herr, der König, möge es mit eigenen Augen sehen. Warum aber hat mein Herr, der König, Gefallen an einer solchen Sache?	3 Joab said to the king, 'May Yahweh your God multiply the people a hundred times -- however manythere are -- while my lord the king stil has eyes to see it, but why should my lord the king be set on this?'
4 Doch der König beharrte gegenüber Joab und den Anführern des Heeres auf seinem Befehl und Joab und die Anführer des Heeres verließen den König, um das Volk Israel zu mustern.	4 The king nonetheless enforced his order on Joab and the senior officers, and Joab and the seniorofficers left the king's presence, to take a census of the people of Israel.
5 Sie überschritten den Jordan und begannen bei Aroër, rechts von der Stadt, die mitten im Tal liegt. Dann gingen sie auf Gad und Jaser zu	5 They crossed the Jordan and made a start with Aroer and the town in the middle of the valley, thenmoved on to the Gadites and to Jazer.
6 und weiter nach Gilead und ins Land der Hetiter nach Kadesch. Von dort aus zogen sie nach Dan und von Dan wandten sie sich nach Sidon.	6 They then went to Gilead and the territory of the Hittites, to Kadesh; they then went to Dan and fromDan cut across to Sidon.
7 Dann kamen sie zur Festung Tyrus und zu all den Städten der Hiwiter und der Kanaaniter. Darauf zogen sie in den Negeb von Juda hinab nach Beerscheba.	7 They then went to the fortress of Tyre and to al the towns of the Hittites and Canaanites ending up inthe Negeb of Judah at Beersheba.
8 So durchstreiften sie das ganze Land und kamen nach neun Monaten und zwanzig Tagen wieder nach Jerusalem zurück.	8 Having travel ed throughout the country, after nine months and twenty days they returned toJerusalem.
9 Und Joab gab dem König das Ergebnis der Volkszählung bekannt: Israel zählte achthunderttausend Krieger, die mit dem Schwert kämpfen konnten, und Juda fünfhunderttausend.	9 Joab gave the king the census results for the people; Israel had eight hundred thousand fighting menwho could wield a sword, and Judah five hundred thousand.
10 Dann aber schlug David das Gewissen, weil er das Volk gezählt hatte, und er sagte zum Herrn: Ich habe schwer gesündigt, weil ich das getan habe. Doch vergib deinem Knecht seine Schuld, Herr; denn ich habe sehr unvernünftig gehandelt.	10 But afterwards David's heart misgave him for having taken a census of the people. David then said toYahweh, 'I have committed a grave sin by doing this. But now, Yahweh, I beg you to forgive your servant for thisfault, for I have acted very foolishly.'
11 Als David am Morgen aufstand, war bereits folgendes Wort des Herrn an den Propheten Gad, den Seher Davids, ergangen:	11 When, however, David got up next morning, the fol owing message had come from Yahweh to theprophet Gad, David's seer,
12 Geh und sag zu David: So spricht der Herr: Dreierlei lege ich dir vor. Wähl dir eines davon! Das werde ich dir antun.	12 'Go and say to David, "Yahweh says this: I offer you three things; choose which one of them I am toinflict on you." '
13 Gad kam zu David, teilte ihm das Wort mit und sagte: Was soll über dich kommen? Sieben Jahre Hungersnot in deinem Land? Oder drei Monate, in denen dich deine Feinde verfolgen und du vor ihnen fliehen musst? Oder soll drei Tage lang die Pest in deinem Land wüten? Überleg dir sehr genau, was ich dem, der mich gesandt hat, als Antwort überbringen soll.	13 So Gad went to David and said, 'Which do you prefer: to have three years of famine befal yourcountry; to flee for three months before a pursuing army; or to have three days of epidemic in your country? Nowthink, and decide how I am to answer him who sends me.'
14 Da sagte David zu Gad: Ich habe große Angst. Wir wollen lieber dem Herrn in die Hände fallen, denn seine Barmherzigkeit ist groß; den Menschen aber möchte ich nicht in die Hände fallen.	14 David said to Gad, 'I am very apprehensive . . . Better to fal into Yahweh's hands, since his merciesare great, than to fal into the hands of men!'
15 Da ließ der Herr über Israel eine Pest kommen; sie dauerte von jenem Morgen an bis zu dem festgesetzten Zeitpunkt und es starben zwischen Dan und Beerscheba siebzigtausend Menschen im Volk.	15 So David chose the epidemic. It was the time of the wheat harvest. So Yahweh unleashed anepidemic on Israel from that morning until the time determined; plague ravaged the people and, of the peoplefrom Dan to Beersheba, seventy thousand died.
16 Als der Engel seine Hand gegen Jerusalem ausstreckte, um es ins Verderben zu stürzen, reute den Herrn das Unheil und er sagte zu dem Engel, der das Volk ins Verderben stürzte: Es ist jetzt genug, lass deine Hand sinken! Der Engel war gerade bei der Tenne des Jebusiters Arauna.	16 But when the angel stretched his hand towards Jerusalem to destroy it, Yahweh felt sorry about thecalamity and said to the angel who was destroying the people, 'Enough now! Hold your hand!' The angel ofYahweh was standing by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
17 Als David den Engel sah, der das Volk schlug, sagte er zum Herrn: Ich bin es doch, der gesündigt hat; ich bin es, der sich vergangen hat. Aber diese, die Herde, was haben denn sie getan? Erheb deine Hand gegen mich und gegen das Haus meines Vaters!	17 When David saw the angel who was ravaging the people, he said to Yahweh, 'I was the one whosinned. I was the one who acted wrongly. But these, the flock, what have they done? Let your hand lie heavy onme and on my family!'
18 Am gleichen Tag kam Gad zu David und sagte zu ihm: Geh hinauf und errichte dem Herrn auf der Tenne des Jebusiters Arauna einen Altar!	18 Gad went to David that day and said, 'Go up and raise an altar to Yahweh on the threshing-floor ofAraunah the Jebusite.'
19 David ging hinauf, wie es Gad gesagt und der Herr befohlen hatte.	19 So, at Gad's bidding, David went up, as Yahweh had ordered.
20 Arauna hielt gerade Ausschau und sah den König mit seinen Dienern kommen. Er ging hinaus, warf sich vor dem König mit dem Gesicht zur Erde nieder	20 When Araunah looked up and saw the king and his retinue advancing towards him-Araunah wasthreshing the wheat -- Araunah came forward and prostrated himself on the ground at the king's feet.
21 und sagte: Warum kommt mein Herr, der König, zu seinem Knecht? David antwortete: Um von dir die Tenne zu kaufen und dem Herrn einen Altar zu errichten, damit die Plage im Volk aufhört.	21 'Why has my lord the king come to his servant?' Araunah asked. David replied, 'To buy the threshing-floor from you, to build an altar to Yahweh, so that the plague may be lifted from the people.'
22 Arauna antwortete David: Mein Herr, der König, möge alles nehmen, was er für gut findet, und es (als Opfer) darbringen. Sieh her, hier sind die Rinder für das Brandopfer und die Dreschschlitten und das Geschirr der Rinder als Brennholz.	22 Araunah said to David, 'Let my lord the king take it and make what offerings he thinks fit. Here arethe oxen for the burnt offering, the threshing-sleds and the oxen's yokes for the wood.
23 Das alles gab [der König] Arauna dem König und sagte zu ihm: Der Herr, dein Gott, sei dir gnädig.	23 My lord the king's servant wil give the king everything. And', Araunah said to the king, 'may Yahwehyour God accept what you offer!'
24 Der König erwiderte Arauna: Nein, ich will es dir gegen Bezahlung abkaufen; ich will dem Herrn, meinem Gott, keine unbezahlten Brandopfer darbringen. David kaufte also die Tenne und die Rinder für fünfzig Silberschekel.	24 'No,' said the king to Araunah, 'I shal give you a price for it; I will not offer Yahweh my God burntofferings which have cost me nothing.' David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
25 Und er baute dort einen Altar für den Herrn und brachte Brandopfer und Heilsopfer dar; der Herr aber ließ sich um des Landes willen erweichen und die Plage hörte auf in Israel.	25 David built an altar to Yahweh and offered burnt offerings and communion sacrifices. Yahweh thentook pity on the country and the plague was lifted from Israel.
