Proverbios 22

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Vale más el buen nombre que las muchas riquezas, y ser estimado vale más que la plata y el oro.	1 Fame is preferable to great wealth, favour, to silver and gold.
2 El rico y el pobre tienen esto en común: el Señor los hizo a los dos.	2 Rich and poor rub shoulders, Yahweh has made them both.
3 El hombre precavido ve el mal y se esconde, los incautos siguen adelante y la pagan.	3 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.
4 Premio de la humildad son el temor del Señor, la riqueza, el honor y la vida.	4 The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh, and riches, honour and life.
5 Hay espinas y trampas en el camino del hombre tortuoso: el que cuida de sí mismo se aparta de ellas.	5 Thorns and snares line the path of the wilful, whoever values life will stay at a distance.
6 Inicia al niño en el camino que debe seguir, y ni siquiera en su vejez se apartará de él.	6 Give a lad a training suitable to his character and, even when old, he wil not go back on it.
7 El rico domina a los pobres y el deudor es esclavo del acreedor.	7 The rich lords it over the poor, the borrower is the lender's slave.
8 El que siembra injusticia cosechará desgracias y la vara de su furor lo aniquilará.	8 Whoever sows injustice reaps disaster, and the rod of such anger wil disappear.
9 El hombre generoso será bendecido, porque comparte su pan con el pobre.	9 A kindly eye wil earn a blessing, such a person shares out food with the poor.
10 Echa al insolente y cesará la pelea: no habrá más discordias ni insultos.	10 Expel the mocker and strife goes too, law-suits and dislike die down.
11 El que ama la pureza del corazón y habla con gracia, tiene al rey por amigo.	11 Whoever loves the pure of heart and is gracious of speech has the king for a friend.
12 Los ojos del Señor vigilan la ciencia, y él confunde las palabras del traidor.	12 Yahweh's eyes protect knowledge, but he confounds deceitful speeches.
13 El perezoso dice: «Afuera hay un león, voy a ser ultimado en medio de la calle».	13 'There is a lion outside,' says the idler, 'I shal be kil ed in the street!'
14 Fosa profunda es la boca de las mujeres ajenas: el que irrita al Señor caerá en ella.	14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit, into it fal s the man whom Yahweh rebukes.
15 La necedad está adherida al corazón del joven: la vara de la corrección la alejará de él.	15 Fol y is anchored in the heart of a youth, the whip of instruction wil rid him of it.
16 El que explota al débil para engrandecerse tendrá que dar al rico y acabará en la indigencia.	16 Harsh treatment enriches the poor, but a gift impoverishes the rich.
17 Palabras de los sabios. Inclina tu oído, escucha mis palabras, y presta atención a mi experiencia:	17 Give ear, listen to the sayings of the sages, and apply your heart to what I know,
18 será una delicia conservarlas dentro de ti y tenerlas siempre a punto sobre tus labios.	18 for it wil be a delight to keep them deep within you to have them al ready on your lips.
19 Para que pongas tu confianza en el Señor, hoy te voy a instruir también a ti.	19 So that your trust may be in Yahweh, it is you whom I wish to instruct today.
20 ¿Acaso no te he escrito treinta discursos, que contienen consejos e instrucciones,	20 Have I not written for you thirty chapters of advice and knowledge,
21 para hacerte conocer con exactitud las palabras verdaderas, y así puedas responder fielmente al que te envía?	21 to make you know the certainty of true sayings, so that you can return with sound answers to thosewho sent you?
22 No robes al débil porque es débil, ni atropelles al pobre en la puerta de la ciudad,	22 Do not despoil the weak, for he is weak, and do not oppress the poor at the gate,
23 porque el Señor defenderá su causa, y a los que lo despojan, los despojará de la vida.	23 for Yahweh takes up their cause, and extorts the life of their extortioners.
24 No te juntes con un hombre irascible ni vayas con un hombre iracundo,	24 Do not make friends with one who gives way to anger, make no one quick-tempered a companion ofyours,
25 no sea que aprendas sus costumbres y te pongas una trampa a ti mismo.	25 for fear you learn such behaviour and in it find a snare for yourself.
26 No seas de los que estrechan la mano, de los que salen fiadores por una deuda:	26 Do not be one of those who go guarantor, who go surety for debts:
27 si no tienes con qué pagar, te quitarán el lecho donde te acuestas.	27 if you have no means of paying your bed wil be taken from under you.
28 No desplaces los linderos antiguos, esos que colocaron tus padres.	28 Do not displace the ancient boundary-stone set by your ancestors.
29 ¿Ves a un hombre hábil en su oficio? El se presentará delante de los reyes y no estará al servicio de gente mediocre.	29 You see someone alert at his business? His aim wil be to serve kings; not for him the service of theobscure.
