BIBLES DES PEUPLES	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Il en va tout autrement de celui qui s’applique à méditer la Loi du Très-Haut. Il scrute la sagesse de tous les anciens et leurs prophéties absorbent ses loisirs.	1 A wise man will seek the wisdom of all the ancients, and he will be occupied in the prophets.
2 Il garde en mémoire les propos des hommes célèbres et pénètre les richesses des maximes;	2 He will preserve the words of renowned men, and he will enter with them into the subtleties of parables.
3 il recherche le sens caché des proverbes et s’intéresse aux énigmes des paraboles.	3 He will search for the hidden meanings of proverbs, and he will become familiar with the mysteries of parables.
4 Il passe au service des grands et on le voit au milieu des chefs. Il voyage dans les pays étrangers et il a l’expérience de ce qui est bon ou mauvais pour les hommes.	4 He will minister in the midst of great men, and he will appear in the sight of the foremost leader.
5 Dès le matin il s’applique à trouver le Seigneur qui l’a créé, il supplie en la présence du Très-Haut; il ouvre la bouche pour prier et il implore pour ses péchés.	5 He will pass through the land of foreign nations. For he will test good and evil among men.
6 Si le Seigneur Sublime en a décidé ainsi, il le remplira de l’esprit d’intelligence. Alors il fera pleuvoir des paroles de sagesse, et dans sa prière il en rendra grâces au Seigneur.	6 At first light, he will offer his heart with watchfulness to the Lord who made him, and he will pray in the sight of the Most High.
7 Il entrera dans les plans de Dieu et dans la connaissance: il méditera sur les secrets du Seigneur.	7 He will open his mouth in prayer, and he will make supplication for his offenses.
8 Il communiquera les enseignements de sa doctrine et mettra sa fierté dans la Loi et l’Alliance du Seigneur.	8 For if the great Lord is willing, he will fill him with the Spirit of understanding.
9 Beaucoup de gens vanteront son intelligence, elle ne tombera jamais dans l’oubli; son souvenir ne disparaîtra pas, mais son nom restera vivant de génération en génération.	9 And he will send forth the eloquence of his wisdom like rain showers, and in his prayer, he will confess to the Lord.
10 À l’étranger on reconnaîtra sa sagesse, et l’assemblée du peuple fera son éloge.	10 And he will direct his counsel and his discipline, and he will meditate on his mysteries.
11 Tant qu’il sera là, son nom passera avant mille autres, et quand il reposera, son nom lui suffira.	11 He will make the discipline of his doctrine clear, and he will glory in the law of the covenant of the Lord.
12 Je veux encore vous faire part de mes réflexions, car j’en suis rempli comme la lune en son plein.	12 Many persons will together praise his wisdom, and it will never be abolished, for all ages.
13 Écoutez-moi, mes enfants saints, et vous grandirez comme le laurier-rose au bord d’un cours d’eau.	13 The memory of him will not fade away, and his name will be sought from generation to generation.
14 Comme l’encens répandez une odeur agréable, faites éclore vos fleurs comme le lys, donnez votre parfum et chantez un cantique. Bénissez Yahvé pour toutes ses œuvres!	14 The peoples will declare his wisdom, and the Church will announce his praise.
15 Exaltez son nom et dites ses louanges; chantez, jouez de la harpe, acclamez-le en disant:	15 While he remains, he leaves behind a name greater than a thousand, and when he will rest, it will be to his benefit.
16 Qu’elles sont belles, les œuvres du Seigneur! Et tout ce qu’il décide arrive en temps voulu. Il ne faut donc pas dire: Qu’est ceci? Pourquoi cela? car tout sera utile en son temps.	16 I will meditate further, so that I may explain. For I have been filled with a passion.
17 À sa parole les eaux s’arrêtèrent et s’élevèrent en un seul lieu; un mot de sa bouche ouvrit les réserves d’eau.	17 In a voice, he says: Listen to me, divine fruits. You shall bear fruit, like roses planted beside streams of waters.
18 Il suffit qu’il parle, et tout ce qu’il désire s’accomplit, personne ne peut détenir son œuvre de salut.	18 You shall have a sweet fragrance, like the cedars of Lebanon.
19 Devant lui sont présentes les œuvres de chacun, et rien n’échappe à ses yeux.	19 Blossom with flowers, like the lily, and diffuse a fragrance, and sprout leaves in grace, and give praise with canticles, and bless the Lord in his works.
20 Son regard va du début jusqu’à la fin des temps, et rien ne peut le surprendre.	20 Give magnificence to his name, and confess to him with the voice of your lips and with the canticles of your mouth and with stringed instruments. And in so praising him, you will confess:
21 Il ne faut donc pas dire: Qu’est ceci? Pourquoi cela? car tout a été fait pour servir.	21 All the works of the Lord are very good.
22 La bénédiction du Seigneur est comme un fleuve qui déborde; comme un déluge elle a inondé la terre.	22 At his word, the waters stood still, as if piled together. And at the words of his mouth, the waters were contained, as if in basins of water.
23 Mais les païens auront droit à sa colère, comme lorsqu’il fit d’une terre arrosée une étendue de sel.	23 For it is made pleasing by his precept, and there is no decrease in his salvation.
24 Ses voies sont droites pour ses fidèles, mais tout y fait trébucher les sans-Loi.	24 The works of all flesh are in his sight, and there is nothing hidden from his eyes.
25 Dès le début les bonnes choses ont été créées pour ceux qui sont bons, comme les maux pour les pécheurs.	25 His gaze is from eternity to eternity, and nothing is a wonder in his sight.
26 Voici les choses les plus nécessaires à la vie humaine: l’eau, le feu, le fer et le sel, et aussi la farine de froment, le lait et le miel, le jus des raisins, l’huile et le vêtement.	26 Let it not be said: “What is this?” or, “What is that?” For all things will be sought in their time.
27 Toutes ces choses sont bénéfiques pour les bons, mais deviennent nuisibles pour les pécheurs.	27 His blessing has overflowed like a river.
28 Certains vents ont été faits pour punir; le Seigneur dans sa colère en fait ses fléaux. Arrivé le moment de détruire, ils déchaînent leur violence et satisfont la fureur de celui qui les a faits.	28 In the same way that a flood inundates the dry land, so also will his wrath inherit the peoples that have not sought him.
29 Feu, grêle, famine et mort: tout cela a été créé pour servir de châtiment.	29 In the same way that he turned the waters into dry land, and made the earth dry, and just as his ways have been directed for their journey, so also will sinners stumble before his wrath.
30 Les dents des bêtes sauvages, les scorpions, les vipères, et l’épée vengeresse qui punit les impies.	30 From the beginning, good things were created for those who are good, and similarly, good and evil things are for those who are wicked.
31 Toutes ces choses se réjouissent de mettre à exécution ses ordres. Elles sont prêtes pour quand ce sera nécessaire, et le moment venu elles ne désobéiront pas à ses ordres.	31 The principal things necessary for the life of men are: water, fire, and iron, salt, milk, and flour for bread, and honey, and the grape cluster, and oil, and clothing.
32 Tout cela, j’en avais la conviction dès le début. Je l’ai médité et c’est pourquoi j’ai écrit:	32 All these things will be used for good by those who are holy, but they will be turned to evil use by the impious and by sinners.
33 Toutes les œuvres du Seigneur sont bonnes, il pourvoit à tout quand c’est le moment.	33 There are spirits that have been created for vengeance, and they strengthen their torments by their fury.
34 Il ne faut donc pas dire: Ceci est mauvais, cela est bon! car toute chose prendra sa valeur en son temps.	34 In the time of the consummation, they will pour forth their strength. And they will appease the fury of the One who made them.
35 Et maintenant chantez à pleine voix et de tout votre cœur: bénissez le Nom du Seigneur!	35 Fire, hail, famine, and death: all these were created for vengeance.
	36 The teeth of wild beasts, and scorpions, and serpents, and the spear: all these take vengeance upon the impious, unto utter destruction.
	37 At his command, they will feast. And they will be prepared upon the earth until they are needed. And in their time, they will not ignore his word.
	38 For this reason, from the beginning, I was strengthened, and I have meditated, and I have considered, and I have put these things in writing.
	39 All the works of the Lord are good, and he will provide for each work in its own hour.
	40 Let it not be said: “This is worse than that.” For all things will be tested in their time.
	41 And now, with the whole heart and mouth, give praise to him, and bless the name of the Lord.
