1 Припав Йосиф на лице своєму батькові й плакав над ним та цілував його.	1 Joseph, realizing this, fell upon his father’s face, weeping and kissing him.
2 Потім Йосиф повелів своїм слугам, лікарям, набальсамувати батька, й лікарі забальсамували Ізраїля.	2 And he instructed his servant physicians to embalm his father with aromatics.
3 Сорок днів пішло на те, бо стільки днів треба було на бальсамування. Єгиптяни ж оплакували його сімдесят днів.	3 And while they were fulfilling his orders, forty days passed. For this was the method of embalming dead bodies. And Egypt wept for him for seventy days.
4 А як минули дні жалоби, Йосиф сказав дворові фараона: Коли я знайшов ласку в очах ваших, скажіть фараонові таке:	4 And when the time for mourning was fulfilled, Joseph spoke to the family of Pharaoh: “If I have found favor in your sight, speak to the ears of Pharaoh.
5 Батько мій заприсягнув мене словами: Ось я вмираю. В моєму гробі, що його я викопав собі в Ханаан-краю, там мене поховаєш! Отож дозволь мені піти та поховати свого батька, і я повернуся.	5 For my father made me swear, saying: ‘See, I am dying. You shall bury me in my sepulcher which I dug for myself in the land of Canaan.’ Therefore, I shall go up and bury my father, and then return.”
6 Фараон відповів: Іди й поховай свого батька, так, як він тебе заприсягнув.	6 And Pharaoh said to him, “Go up and bury your father, just as he made you swear.”
7 І вийшов Йосиф ховати батька свого, а з ним пішли всі двірські фараона, вельможі його роду та й усі старші єгипетського краю,	7 So as he went up, all the elders of the house of Pharaoh went with him, along with every patriarch in the land of Egypt,
8 і ввесь дім Йосифа та його брати з домашніми його батька; тільки своїх дітей та овець своїх і стада свої лишили вони в Гошен-землі.	8 and the house of Joseph with his brothers, except their little ones and flocks and also the herds, which they left behind in the land of Goshen.
9 Вийшли з ним і колісниці й вершники: був це вельми великий почет.	9 Likewise, he had in his company chariots and horsemen. And it became a crowd without restraint.
10 Прийшли ж вони до Атад-току, що по тому боці Йордану, й ридали там вельми великим та важким риданням; і справив він по своєму батькові сімденну жалобу.	10 And they arrived at the threshing place of Atad, which is situated beyond the Jordan. There they spent seven full days celebrating the funeral rites with a great and vehement lamentation.
11 А як мешканці краю, ханааняни, бачили цю жалобу коло Атад-току, то сказали: Тяжка це жалоба для єгиптян. Тим то й названо його ім’ям Авел-Міцраїм, що є по тому боці Йордану.	11 And when the inhabitants of the land of Canaan had seen this, they said, “This is a great Lamentation for the Egyptians.” And for this reason, the name of that place was called, “The Lamentation of Egypt.”
12 Сини його, отже, зробили так, як він велів їм;	12 And so, the sons of Jacob did just as he had instructed them.
13 вони бо занесли його в Ханаан-край і поховали його в печері на полі Махпела, яку вкупі з полем купив був Авраам на власне кладовище в Ефрона, хеттита, проти Мамре.	13 And carrying him into the land of Canaan, they buried him in the double cave, which Abraham had bought along with its field, from Ephron the Hittite, as a possession for burial, opposite Mamre.
14 Після похорону батька повернувся Йосиф у Єгипет, він і його брати й усі, що ходили з ним ховати його батька.	14 And Joseph returned into Egypt with his brothers and all those of his company, having buried his father.
15 Побачивши Йосифові брати, що помер їх батько, сказали: Ануж Йосиф зненавидить нас (тепер) та й направду відплатить нам за все те лихо, що ми йому заподіяли.	15 Now that he was dead, his brothers were afraid, and they said to one another: “Perhaps now he may remember the injury that he suffered and requite us for all the evil that we did to him.”
16 І послали до Йосифа сказати: Батько твій перед своєю смертю так заповідав, кажучи:	16 So they sent a message to him, saying: “Your father instructed us before he died,
17 Ось так промовте до Йосифа: Прости братам твоїм, будь ласка, вину за гріх їх, вони бо зло вчинили тобі. Та ти прости тепер, будь ласка, провину рабам Бога твого батька. І заплакав Йосиф, як вони це говорили до нього.	17 that we should say these words to you from him: ‘I beg you to forget the wickedness of your brothers, and the sin and malice that they practiced against you.’ Likewise, we petition you to release the servants of the God of your father from this iniquity.” Hearing this, Joseph wept.
18 Тоді прийшли ще його брати і, впавши перед ним, сказали: Ось ми — твої раби.	18 And his brothers went to him. And reverencing prostrate on the ground, they said, “We are your servants.”
19 А Йосиф каже до них: Не бійтеся! Хіба ж я замість Бога?	19 And he answered them: “Do not be afraid. Are we able to resist the will of God?
20 Ви зло задумали на мене, але Бог обернув це на добре, щоб зробити так, як воно й є сьогодні: спасти життя багатьом людям.	20 You devised evil against me. But God turned it into good, so that he might exalt me, just as you presently discern, and so that he might bring about the salvation of many peoples.
21 Не бійтесь, отже, я годуватиму вас і дітей ваших. І втішив їх і говорив до них зичливо.	21 Do not be afraid. I will pasture you and your little ones.” And he consoled them, and he spoke mildly and leniently.
22 І пробував Йосиф у Єгипті, він і дім його батька. А жив Йосиф сто десять років.	22 And he lived in Egypt with all his father’s house; and he survived for one hundred and ten years. And he saw the sons of Ephraim to the third generation. Likewise, the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were born onto Joseph’s knees.
23 Йосиф бачив дітей Ефраїма до третього покоління; також діти Махіра, сина Манассії, народилися в Йосифові прийми.	23 After these things happened, he said to his brothers: “God will visit you after my death, and he will make you ascend from this land into the land which he swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
24 Нарешті Йосиф сказав до своїх братів: Я вмираю, але Бог напевно навідається до вас і виведе вас із цього краю в край, що про нього клявся Авраамові, Ісаакові та Яковові.	24 And when he had made them swear and had said, “God will visit you; carry my bones with you from this place,”
25 І взяв Йосиф у синів Ізраїля таку клятву: Як Бог навідається до вас, ви заберете звідси мої кості.	25 he died, having completed one hundred and ten years of his life. And having been embalmed with aromatics, he was laid to rest in a coffin in Egypt.
26 І помер Йосиф мавши сто десять років, а вони забальсамували його й поклали у труну в Єгипті.
