Jonas 2

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Do fundo das entranhas do peixe, Jonas fez esta prece ao Senhor, seu Deus:	1 Now Yahweh ordained that a great fish should swal ow Jonah; and Jonah remained in the bel y of thefish for three days and three nights.
2 Em minha aflição, invoquei o Senhor, e ele ouviu-me. Do meio da morada dos mortos, clamei a vós, e ouvistes minha voz.	2 From the bel y of the fish, Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God; he said:
3 Lançastes-me no abismo, no meio das águas e as ondas me envolviam. Todas as vossas vagas e todas as vossas ondas passavam sobre mim.	3 Out of my distress I cried to Yahweh and he answered me, from the bel y of Sheol I cried out; you heardmy voice!
4 E eu já dizia: fui rejeitado de diante de vossos olhos. Acaso me será dado ainda rever vosso santo templo?!	4 For you threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods closed round me. Al yourwaves and bil ows passed over me;
5 As águas envolviam-me até a garganta, o abismo me cercava. As algas envolviam-me a cabeça.	5 then I thought, 'I am banished from your sight; how shal I ever see your holy Temple again?'
6 Eu tinha descido até as raízes das montanhas, até a terra cujos ferrolhos eternos {se fecharam} sobre mim.	6 The waters round me rose to my neck, the deep was closing round me, seaweed twining round myhead.
7 Quando desfalecia a minha vida, pensei no Senhor; minha oração chegou a vós, no vosso santo templo.	7 To the roots of the mountains, I sank into the underworld, and its bars closed round me for ever. But youraised my life from the Pit, Yahweh my God!
8 Os que servem a ídolos vãos abandonam a fonte das graças.	8 When my soul was growing ever weaker, Yahweh, I remembered you, and my prayer reached you inyour holy Temple.
9 Eu, porém, oferecerei um sacrifício com cânticos de louvor, e cumprirei o voto que fiz. Do Senhor vem a salvação.	9 Some abandon their faithful love by worshipping false gods,
10 Então o Senhor ordenou ao peixe, e este vomitou Jonas na praia.	10 but I shal sacrifice to you with songs of praise. The vow I have made I shall fulfil! Salvation comesfrom Yahweh!
	11 Yahweh spoke to the fish, which then vomited Jonah onto the dry land.
