Proverbi 27

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non ti lodare per domani, perché non sai che partorisce l'oggi.	1 Do not congratulate yourself about tomorrow, since you do not know what today wil bring forth.
2 Ti lodi un altro, ma non la tua bocca, un estraneo, non le tue labbra!	2 Let someone else sing your praises, but not your own mouth, a stranger, but not your own lips.
3 Cosa grave è la pietra e un peso la sabbia, ma l'ira dello stolto pesa più di tutt'e due.	3 Heavy is the stone, weighty is the sand; heavier than both -- a grudge borne by a fool.
4 Il furore è crudele e l'ira è impetuosa: ma chi può sopportar la gelosia?	4 Cruel is wrath, overwhelming is anger; but jealousy, who can withstand that?
5 Meglio una correzione aperta che un amore nascosto.	5 Better open reproof than feigned love.
6 Son sincere le piaghe d'un amico, sono inganni i baci d'un nemico.	6 Trustworthy are blows from a friend, deceitful are kisses from a foe.
7 Gola sazia disprezza il miele, gola affamata trova dolce anche l'amaro.	7 The gorged throat revolts at honey, the hungry throat finds al bitterness sweet.
8 Come il passero che erra lontano dal nido, così l'uomo che erra lontano dal suo paese.	8 Like a bird that strays from its nest, so is anyone who strays away from home.
9 L'olio e il profumo rallegrano il cuore e la dolcezza di un amico consola l'anima.	9 Oil and perfume gladden the heart, and the sweetness of friendship rather than self-reliance.
10 Non abbandonare il tuo amico e l'amico di tuo padre e non entrare in casa di tuo fratello nel giorno della tua tristezza. E' meglio un amico vicino che un fratello lontano.	10 Do not give up your friend or your father's friend; when trouble comes, do not go off to your brother'shouse, better a near neighbour than a distant brother.
11 Sii saggio, figlio mio, e rallegra il mio cuore, sicché possa rispondere a chi mi oltraggia.	11 Learn to be wise, my child, and gladden my heart, that I may have an answer for anyone who insultsme.
12 Il prudente vede la sventura e si nasconde; i semplici ci passan vicino e ne pagano il fio.	12 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.
13 Prendi la sua veste! L'ha impegnata per uno straniero! Per degli sconosciuti: tienla in pegno!	13 Take the man's clothes! He has gone surety for a stranger. Take a pledge from him, for personsunknown.
14 Chi benedice il suo prossimo ad alta voce fin dall'alba, gli verrà contato come maledizione.	14 Whoever at dawn loudly blesses his neighbour -- it will be reckoned to him as a curse.
15 Goccia continua in giorno di pioggia e donna litigiosa si assomigliano.	15 The dripping of a gutter on a rainy day and a quarrelsome woman are alike;
16 Chi vuol calmarla, vuol far tacere il vento e raccogliere l'olio con la destra.	16 whoever can restrain her, can restrain the wind, and take a firm hold on grease.
17 Il ferro col ferro si lima e l'uomo affina le maniere del suo prossimo.	17 Iron is sharpened by iron, one person is sharpened by contact with another.
18 Chi ha cura del suo fico ne mangia i frutti; chi veglia sul suo padrone sarà onorato.	18 Whoever tends the fig tree eats its figs, whoever looks after his master wil be honoured.
19 Come l'acqua rimanda il volto al volto, così il cuore rivela l'uomo all'uomo.	19 As water reflects face back to face, so one human heart reflects another.
20 Inferi e abisso mai si saziano; gli occhi dell'uomo sono insaziabili.	20 Sheol and Perdition are never satisfied, insatiable, too, are human eyes.
21 Il crogiolo è per l'argento e il forno per l'oro; così per l'uomo è la sua reputazione.	21 A furnace for silver, a foundry for gold: a person is worth what his reputation is worth.
22 Se tu pestassi lo stolto in un mortaio, in mezzo ai chicchi con un pestello, non staccheresti da lui la sua stoltezza.	22 Pound a fool in a mortar, among grain with a pestle, his fol y wil not leave him.
23 Guarda bene allo stato del tuo gregge, fai attenzione agli armenti:	23 Know your flocks' condition well, take good care of your herds;
24 perché la ricchezza non è eterna e un diadema non dura all'infinito.	24 for riches do not last for ever, crowns do not hand themselves on from age to age.
25 Spunta l'erba, appare il germe e si raccoglie il foraggio sopra i monti.	25 The grass once gone, the aftergrowth appearing, the hay gathered in from the mountains,
26 Ci siano agnelli per vestirti e montoni come prezzo di un campo,	26 you should have lambs to clothe you, goats to buy you a field,
27 abbondanza di latte delle capre come cibo per la tua casa e per la vita delle tue ancelle.	27 goat's milk sufficient to feed you, to feed your household and provide for your serving girls.
