1 But I say that, during the time an heir is a child, he is no different from a servant, even though he is the owner of everything.	1 - Or io dico: per tutto il tempo che un erede è fanciullo, non differisce punto da un servo, pur essendo padrone di tutto,
2 For he is under tutors and caretakers, until the time which was predetermined by the father.	2 e sta sotto tutori e amministratori fino al tempo prestabilito dal padre.
3 So also we, when we were children, were subservient to the influences of the world.	3 Così anche noi, quando eravamo fanciulli, eravamo schiavi sotto gli elementi del mondo,
4 But when the fullness of time arrived, God sent his Son, formed from a woman, formed under the law,	4 ma quando venne la pienezza dei tempi, Dio mandò suo figlio, nato di donna, nato sotto la Legge,
5 so that he might redeem those who were under the law, in order that we might receive the adoption of sons.	5 per riscattare quelli che erano sotto la Legge, e far che noi ricevessimo l'adozione dei figli.
6 Therefore, because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying out: “Abba, Father.”	6 E perchè siete figli, mandò Iddio lo Spirito del Figlio suo nei vostri cuori, il quale grida: «Abba» («Padre»).
7 And so now he is not a servant, but a son. But if he is a son, then he is also an heir, through God.	7 Sicchè tu non sei più servo ma figlio, e, se figlio, anche erede per opera di Dio.
8 But then, certainly, while ignorant of God, you served those who, by nature, are not gods.	8 Allora non conoscendo Dio, eravate servi di tali che per loro natura non sono dèi,
9 But now, since you have known God, or rather, since you have been known by God: how can you turn away again, to weak and destitute influences, which you desire to serve anew?	9 invece ora, conoscendo Dio, e meglio ancora, riconosciuti da Dio, come mai vi rivolgete di nuovo ai deboli e poveri elementi, ai quali volete daccapo farvi schiavi?
10 You serve the days, and months, and times, and years.	10 Voi osservate i giorni e i mesi e le ricorrenze e gli anni;
11 I am afraid for you, lest perhaps I may have labored in vain among you.	11 in verità temo di voi, che invano io abbia tra voi faticato. Esortazioni di Paolo ed effusioni di cuore
12 Brothers, I beg you. Be as I am. For I, too, am like you. You have not injured me at all.	12 Siate come me, o fratelli, ve ne prego, che anch'io son come voi. Voi non mi avete mai fatto alcun torto;
13 But you know that, in the weakness of the flesh, I have preached the Gospel to you for a long time, and that your trials are in my flesh.	13 sapete bene come la prima volta vi evangelizzai pur con un'infermità della carne; e questa prova a cui la mia carne vi sottoponeva,
14 You did not despise or reject me. But instead, you accepted me like an Angel of God, even like Christ Jesus.	14 voi nè la dispregiaste nè n'avete mostrato disgusto, ma mi avete accolto come un angelo di Dio, come Cristo Gesù.
15 Therefore, where is your happiness? For I offer to you testimony that, if it could be done, you would have plucked out your own eyes and would have given them to me.	15 Dove dunque se n'è ito quel vostro apprezzamento di felicità? poichè io vi rendo questa testimonianza, che se fosse stato possibile, vi sareste cavati gli occhi per darmeli.
16 So then, have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?	16 Sicchè, sono io diventato vostro nemico dicendovi la verità?
17 They are not imitating you well. And they are willing to exclude you, so that you might imitate them.	17 costoro vi mostrano zelo ma non onestamente, anzi vi voglion chiuder fuori perchè voi volgiate le vostre premure a loro.
18 But be imitators of what is good, always in a good way, and not only when I am present with you.	18 Ora è bello essere oggetto di premure nel bene, sempre, e non solo quando io son tra voi presente,
19 My little sons, I am giving birth to you again, until Christ is formed in you.	19 o figliuoli miei, che io di nuovo partorisco, fino a tanto che sia formato Cristo in voi;
20 And I would willingly be present with you, even now. But I would alter my voice: for I am ashamed of you.	20 oh, come vorrei esser tra voi ora, e cambiar tono, perchè son tanto perplesso a riguardo vostro. Inutilità della Legge dimostrata con l'allegoria di Agar e di Sara
21 Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, have you not read the law?	21 Ditemi voi che volete esser sotto la Legge, non l'avete letta la Legge?
22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons: one by a servant woman, and one by a free woman.	22 Poichè sta scritto che Abramo ebbe due figli, uno dalla schiava e uno dalla libera.
23 And he who was of the servant was born according to the flesh. But he who was of the free woman was born by the promise.	23 Ma quello che ebbe dalla schiava, nacque secondo la carne, quello che ebbe dalla libera fu secondo la promessa.
24 These things are said through an allegory. For these represent the two testaments. Certainly the one, on Mount Sinai, gives birth unto servitude, which is Hagar.	24 Le quali cose sono state dette per allegoria; perchè coteste donne figurano due patti d'alleanza; l'uno dal Monte Sinai, che porta alla schiavitù, e questo è Agar,
25 For Sinai is a mountain in Arabia, which is related to the Jerusalem of the present time, and it serves with her sons.	25 e Agar è appunto il monte Sinai nell'Arabia; e corrisponde alla Gerusalemme d'ora, che è serva co' suoi figliuoli.
26 But that Jerusalem which is above is free; the same is our mother.	26 Invece la Gerusalemme di lassù è libera, e quella è la nostra madre,
27 For it was written: “Rejoice, O barren one, though you do not conceive. Burst forth and cry out, though you do not give birth. For many are the children of the desolate, even more than of her who has a husband.”	27 poichè sta scritto: "Rallegrati, o sterile, che non partorisci; prorompi in grida di gioia, o tu che non hai provato le doglie del parto, poichè molti più saranno i figli della donna abbandonata che di quella che aveva marito"
28 Now we, brothers, like Isaac, are sons of the promise.	28 Ora noi, o fratelli, siamo figliuoli secondo la promessa che riguardava Isacco.
29 But just as then, he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now.	29 Ma come allora il figlio secondo la carne perseguitò quello secondo lo spirito,
30 And what does Scripture say? “Cast out the woman servant and her son. For the son of a servant women shall not be an heir with the son of a free woman.”	30 così anche ora. Ma la Scrittura che dice? "Caccia la schiava e il figlio di lei, poichè non avrà l'eredità il figlio della schiava insieme col figlio della libera".
31 And so, brothers, we are not the sons of the servant woman, but rather of the free woman. And this is the freedom with which Christ has set us free.	31 Pertanto, o fratelli, noi non siamo figli della schiava, ma della libera.
