CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINLXX
Continuing in a similar manner, Eliu had this to say:1 προσθεις δε ελιους ετι λεγει
Bear with me for a little while and I will show you; for I have still more to say in favor of God.2 μεινον με μικρον ετι ινα διδαξω σε ετι γαρ εν εμοι εστιν λεξις
I will review my knowledge from the beginning, and I will prove my Maker to be just.3 αναλαβων την επιστημην μου μακραν εργοις δε μου δικαια ερω
For truly my words are without any falsehood and perfect knowledge will be proven to you.4 επ' αληθειας και ουκ αδικα ρηματα αδικως συνιεις
God does not abandon the powerful, for he himself is also powerful.5 γιγνωσκε δε οτι ο κυριος ου μη αποποιησηται τον ακακον δυνατος ισχυι καρδιας
But he does not save the impious, though he grants judgment to the poor.6 ασεβη ου μη ζωοποιησει και κριμα πτωχων δωσει
He will not take his eyes away from the just, and he continually establishes kings on their throne, and they are exalted.7 ουκ αφελει απο δικαιου οφθαλμους αυτου και μετα βασιλεων εις θρονον και καθιει αυτους εις νεικος και υψωθησονται
And, if they are in captivity, or are bound with the chains of poverty,8 και ει πεπεδημενοι εν χειροπεδαις συσχεθησονται εν σχοινιοις πενιας
he will reveal to them their works, as well as their sinfulness, in that they were violent.9 και αναγγελει αυτοις τα εργα αυτων και τα παραπτωματα αυτων οτι ισχυσουσιν
Likewise, he will open their ears to his correction, and he will speak to them, so that they may return from iniquity.10 αλλα του δικαιου εισακουσεται και ειπεν οτι επιστραφησονται εξ αδικιας
If they listen and obey, they will fill their days with goodness and complete their years in glory.11 εαν ακουσωσιν και δουλευσωσιν συντελεσουσιν τας ημερας αυτων εν αγαθοις και τα ετη αυτων εν ευπρεπειαις
But if they will not listen, they will pass away by the sword and will be consumed by foolishness.12 ασεβεις δε ου διασωζει παρα το μη βουλεσθαι ειδεναι αυτους τον κυριον και διοτι νουθετουμενοι ανηκοοι ησαν
The false and the crafty provoke the wrath of God, yet they do not cry out to him when they are chained.13 και υποκριται καρδια ταξουσιν θυμον ου βοησονται οτι εδησεν αυτους
Their soul will die in a storm, and their life, among the unmanly.14 αποθανοι τοινυν εν νεοτητι η ψυχη αυτων η δε ζωη αυτων τιτρωσκομενη υπο αγγελων
He will rescue the poor from his anguish, and he will open his ear during tribulation.15 ανθ' ων εθλιψαν ασθενη και αδυνατον κριμα δε πραεων εκθησει
Therefore, he will save you from the narrow mouth very widely, even though it has no foundation under it. Moreover, your respite at table will be full of fatness.16 και προσετι ηπατησεν σε εκ στοματος εχθρου αβυσσος καταχυσις υποκατω αυτης και κατεβη τραπεζα σου πληρης πιοτητος
Your case has been judged like that of the impious; you will withdraw your plea and your judgment.17 ουχ υστερησει δε απο δικαιων κριμα
Therefore, do not let anger overwhelm you so that you oppress another; neither should you allow a multitude of gifts to influence you.18 θυμος δε επ' ασεβεις εσται δι' ασεβειαν δωρων ων εδεχοντο επ' αδικιαις
Lay down your greatness without distress, and put aside all of your power with courage.19 μη σε εκκλινατω εκων ο νους δεησεως εν αναγκη οντων αδυνατων και παντας τους κραταιουντας ισχυν
Do not prolong the night, even if people rise on their behalf.20 μη εξελκυσης την νυκτα του αναβηναι λαους αντ' αυτων
Be careful that you do not turn to iniquity; for, after your misery, you have begun to follow this.21 αλλα φυλαξαι μη πραξης ατοπα επι τουτον γαρ εξειλω απο πτωχειας
Behold, God is exalted in his strength, and there is no one like him among the law-givers.22 ιδου ο ισχυρος κραταιωσει εν ισχυι αυτου τις γαρ εστιν κατ' αυτον δυναστης
Who is able to investigate his ways? And who can say, “You have done iniquity,” to him?23 τις δε εστιν ο εταζων αυτου τα εργα η τις ο ειπας επραξεν αδικα
Remember that you are ignorant of his work, yet men have sung its praises.24 μνησθητι οτι μεγαλα εστιν αυτου τα εργα ων ηρξαν ανδρες
All men consider him; and each one ponders from a distance.25 πας ανθρωπος ειδεν εν εαυτω οσοι τιτρωσκομενοι εισιν βροτοι
Behold, God is great, defeating our knowledge; the number of his years is inestimable.26 ιδου ο ισχυρος πολυς και ου γνωσομεθα αριθμος ετων αυτου και απεραντος
He carries away the drops of rain, and he sends forth showers like a raging whirlpool;27 αριθμηται δε αυτω σταγονες υετου και επιχυθησονται υετω εις νεφελην
they flow from the clouds that are woven above everything.28 ρυησονται παλαιωματα εσκιασεν δε νεφη επι αμυθητων βροτων [8α] ωραν εθετο κτηνεσιν οιδασιν δε κοιτης ταξιν [8β] επι τουτοις πασιν ουκ εξισταται σου η διανοια ουδε διαλλασσεται σου η καρδια απο σωματος
If he wills it, he extends the clouds as his tent29 και εαν συνη απεκτασεις νεφελης ισοτητα σκηνης αυτου
and shines with his light from above; likewise, he covers the oceans within his tent.30 ιδου εκτεινει επ' αυτον ηδω και ριζωματα της θαλασσης εκαλυψεν
For he judges the people by these things, and he gives food to a multitude of mortals.31 εν γαρ αυτοις κρινει λαους δωσει τροφην τω ισχυοντι
Within his hands, he hides the light, and he commands it to come forth again.32 επι χειρων εκαλυψεν φως και ενετειλατο περι αυτης εν απαντωντι
He announces it to his friend, for it is his possession and he is able to reach out to it.33 αναγγελει περι αυτου φιλον αυτου κτησις και περι αδικιας
