Job 33

CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINJERUSALEM
Therefore, hear my speeches, Job, and listen to all my words.1 Mais veuille, Job, écouter mes dires, tends l'oreille à toutes mes paroles.
Behold, I have opened my mouth; let my tongue speak along with my throat.2 Voici que j'ouvre la bouche et ma langue articule des mots sur mon palais.
My words are from my simple heart, and my lips will speak a pure judgment.3 Mon coeur délivrera des paroles de science, mes lèvres s'exprimeront avec sincérité.
The Spirit of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gave me life.4 C'est l'esprit de Dieu qui m'a fait, le souffle de Shaddaï qui m'anima.
If you can, answer me, and oppose me to my face.5 Si tu le peux, réponds-moi! Tiens-toi prêt devant moi, prend position!
Behold, God has made me, just as he also has made you, and I, likewise, have been formed of the same clay.6 Vois, je suis ton égal, non un dieu, comme toi, d'argile je suis pétri.
So, truly, do not let my wonders terrify you, and do not let my eloquence be burdensome to you.7 Aussi ma terreur ne t'effraiera point, ma main ne pèsera pas sur toi.
For you have spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of your words, saying:8 Comment as-tu pu dire à mes oreilles car -- j'ai entendu le son de tes paroles:
“I am clean and without sin; I am immaculate, and there is no iniquity in me.9 "Je suis pur, sans transgression; je suis intact, sans faute.
Yet he has discovered blame in me, and so he has treated me like his enemy.10 Mais il invente des prétextes contre moi et il me considère comme son ennemi.
He has put my feet in fetters; he has kept watch over all my ways.”11 Il met mes pieds dans les ceps et surveille tous mes sentiers?"
Therefore, it is for this reason that you have not been justified. For I tell you that God is greater than man.12 Or, en cela, je t'en réponds, tu as eu tort, car Dieu dépasse l'homme.
Do you contend against him because he has not responded to all of your words?13 Pourquoi lui chercher querelle parce qu'il ne te répond pas mot pour mot?
God speaks once, and he does not repeat the same thing a second time.14 Dieu parle d'une façon et puis d'une autre, sans qu'on prête attention.
Through a dream in a vision of the night, when a deep sleep falls over men, and they are sleeping in their beds,15 Par des songes, par des visions nocturnes, quand une torpeur s'abat sur les humains et qu'ils sontendormis sur leur couche,
then, he opens the ears of men, and, educating them, he teaches discipline,16 alors il parle à leurs oreilles, il les épouvante par des apparitions,
so that he may divert a man from the things that he is doing, and may free him from pride,17 pour détourner l'homme de ses oeuvres et mettre fin à son orgueil.
rescuing his soul from corruption and his life from passing away by the sword.18 Il préserve ainsi son âme de la fosse, sa vie du passage par le Canal.
Likewise, he rebukes by sorrow in bed, and he causes all of his bones to become weak.19 Il le corrige aussi sur son grabat par la souffrance, quand ses os tremblent sans arrêt,
Bread becomes abominable to him in his life, and, to his soul, the meat which before he desired.20 quand sa vie prend en dégoût la nourriture et son appétit les friandises;
His body will waste away, and his bones, which had been covered, will be revealed.21 quand sa chair se consume à vue d'oeil et que se dénudent les os qui étaient cachés;
His soul has approached corruption, and his life has drawn near to what is deadly.22 quand son âme approche de la fosse et sa vie du séjour des morts.
If there were an angel speaking for him, one among thousands, to declare the fairness of the man,23 Alors s'il se trouve près de lui un Ange, un Médiateur pris entre mille, qui rappelle à l'homme sondevoir,
he will have mercy on him, and he will say, “Free him, so that he will not descend to destruction. I have found a reason to be favorable to him.24 le prenne en pitié et déclare: "Exempte-le de descendre dans la fosse: j'ai trouvé la rançon pour savie",
His body is consumed by suffering. Let him return to the days of his youth.”25 sa chair retrouve une fraîcheur juvénile, il revient aux jours de son adolescence.
He will beg pardon from God, and he will be soothing to him; and he will look upon his face in jubilation, and he will restore his justice to man.26 Il prie Dieu qui lui rend sa faveur, il vient le voir dans l'allégresse. Il annonce à autrui sa justification
He will consider mankind, and he will say: “I have sinned and truly I have offended, yet I was not treated as I deserved.”27 et fait entendre devant les hommes ce cantique: "J'avais péché et perverti le droit: Dieu ne m'a pastraité selon ma faute.
He has freed his soul from continuing into destruction, so that, in living, it may see the light.28 Il a exempté mon âme de passer par la fosse et fait jouir ma vie de la lumière."
Behold, all these things God works three times within each one,29 Voilà tout ce que fait Dieu, deux fois, trois fois pour l'homme,
so that he may revive their souls from corruption and enlighten them with the light of life.30 afin d'arracher son âme à la fosse et de faire briller sur lui la lumière des vivants.
Pay attention Job, and listen to me; and remain silent, while I speak.31 Sois attentif, Job, écoute-moi bien: tais-toi, j'ai encore à parler.
Yet, if you have anything to say, answer me and speak, for I want you to be treated justly.32 Si tu as quelque chose à dire, réplique-moi, parle, car je veux te donner raison.
But if you do not have anything to say, then listen to me. Be quiet and I will teach you wisdom.33 Sinon, écoute-moi: fais silence, et je t'enseignerai la sagesse.
