Now, when Moses had completed the erection of the Dwelling and had anointed and consecrated it with all its equipment (as well as the altar with all its equipment),1 Now it happened in the day when Moses completed the tabernacle, and he set it up, and he anointed and sanctified it with all of its vessels, and similarly the altar and all of its vessels,
an offering was made by the princes of Israel, who were heads of ancestral houses; the same princes of the tribes who supervised the census.2 that the leaders of Israel and the heads of the families, who were in each tribe and who were in charge of those who had been numbered, offered
The offering they brought before the LORD consisted of six baggage wagons and twelve oxen, that is, a wagon for every two princes, and an ox for every prince. These they presented as their offering before the Dwelling.3 their gifts in the sight of the Lord: six covered wagons with twelve oxen. Two leaders offered one wagon, and each offered one ox, and they offered these in the sight of the tabernacle.
The LORD then said to Moses,4 Then the Lord said to Moses:
"Accept their offering, that these things may be put to use in the service of the meeting tent. Assign them to the Levites, to each group in proportion to its duties."5 “Receive these things from them, in order to serve in the ministry of the tabernacle, and you shall deliver them to the Levites, according to the order of their ministry.”
So Moses accepted the wagons and oxen, and assigned them to the Levites.6 And so Moses, having received the wagons and the oxen, delivered them to the Levites.
He gave two wagons and four oxen to the Gershonites in proportion to their duties,7 Two wagons and four oxen he gave to the sons of Gershon, according to what they needed.
and four wagons and eight oxen to the Merarites in proportion to their duties, under the supervision of Ithamar, son of Aaron the priest.8 The other four wagons and eight oxen he gave to the sons of Merari, according to their offices and service, under the hand of Ithamar, the son of Aaron the priest.
He gave none to the Kohathites, because they had to carry on their shoulders the sacred objects which were their charge.9 But to the sons of Kohath he gave no wagons or oxen, because they serve in the Sanctuary and they carry their burdens on their shoulders.
For the dedication of the altar also, the princes brought offerings before the altar on the day it was anointed.10 Therefore, the leaders offered, at the dedication of the altar on the day when it was anointed, their oblation before the altar.
