NEW AMERICAN BIBLEKING JAMES BIBLE
For the leader; according to "Lilies." A maskil of the Korahites. A love song.1 My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
My heart is stirred by a noble theme, as I sing my ode to the king. My tongue is the pen of a nimble scribe.2 Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
You are the most handsome of men; fair speech has graced your lips, for God has blessed you forever.3 Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.
Gird your sword upon your hip, mighty warrior! In splendor and majesty ride on triumphant!4 And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.
In the cause of truth and justice may your right hand show you wondrous deeds.5 Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.
Your arrows are sharp; peoples will cower at your feet; the king's enemies will lose heart.6 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.
Your throne, O god, stands forever; your royal scepter is a scepter for justice.7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
You love justice and hate wrongdoing; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your fellow kings.8 All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.
With myrrh, aloes, and cassia your robes are fragrant. From ivory-paneled palaces stringed instruments bring you joy.9 Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.
Daughters of kings are your lovely wives; a princess arrayed in Ophir's gold comes to stand at your right hand.10 Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house;
Listen, my daughter, and understand; pay me careful heed. Forget your people and your father's house,11 So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.
that the king might desire your beauty. He is your lord;12 And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.
honor him, daughter of Tyre. Then the richest of the people will seek your favor with gifts.13 The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.
All glorious is the king's daughter as she enters, her raiment threaded with gold;14 She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.
In embroidered apparel she is led to the king. The maids of her train are presented to the king.15 With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace.
They are led in with glad and joyous acclaim; they enter the palace of the king.16 Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.
The throne of your fathers your sons will have; you shall make them princes through all the land.17 I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.
I will make your name renowned through all generations; thus nations shall praise you forever.
