Και εξηκολουθησεν ο Ιωβ την παραβολην αυτου και ειπεν?1 Job also added to this, using figures of speech, and he said:
Ω να ημην ως εις τους παρελθοντας μηνας, ως εν ταις ημεραις οτε ο Θεος με εφυλαττεν?2 Who will grant to me that I might be as I was in former months, according to the days when God kept watch over me?
οτε ο λυχνος αυτου εφεγγεν επι της κεφαλης μου, και δια του φωτος αυτου περιεπατουν εν τω σκοτει?3 At that time, his lamp shined over my head, and by his light, I walked through the darkness.
καθως ημην εν ταις ημεραις της ακμης μου, οτε η ευνοια του Θεου ητο επι την σκηνην μου?4 I was then just as in the days of my youth, when God was privately in my tabernacle.
οτε ο Παντοδυναμος ητο μετ' εμου, και τα παιδια μου κυκλω μου?5 At that time, the Almighty was with me and my children surrounded me.
οτε επλυνον τα βηματα μου με βουτυρον, και ο βραχος εξεχεε δι' εμε ποταμους ελαιου?6 Then, I washed my feet with butter, and a boulder poured out rivers of oil for me.
οτε δια της πολεως εξηρχομην εις την πυλην, ητοιμαζον την καθεδραν μου εν τη πλατεια7 When I went to the gate of the city, or to the main street, they prepared a chair for me.
Οι νεοι με εβλεπον και εκρυπτοντο? και οι γεροντες εγειρομενοι ισταντο.8 The youths saw me and hid themselves, and the elders, rising up, remained standing.
Οι αρχοντες επαυον ομιλουντες και εβαλλον χειρα επι το στομα αυτων.9 The leaders stopped talking, and they placed a finder over their mouth.
Η φωνη των εγκριτων εκρατειτο, και η γλωσσα αυτων εκολλατο εις τον ουρανισκον αυτων.10 The commanders subdued their voice, and their tongue adhered to their throat.
Οτε το ωτιον ηκουε και με εμακαριζε, και ο οφθαλμος εβλεπε και εμαρτυρει υπερ εμου?11 The ear that heard me, blessed me, and the eye that saw me, gave testimony for me.
διοτι ηλευθερουν τον πτωχον βοωντα και τον ορφανον τον μη εχοντα βοηθον.12 This was because I had freed the poor, who cried out, and the orphan, who had no helper.
Η ευλογια του απολλυμενου ηρχετο επ' εμε? και την καρδιαν της χηρας ευφραινον.13 The blessing of him who would have been destroyed came upon me, and I consoled the heart of the widow.
Εφορουν δικαιοσυνην και ενεδυομην την ευθυτητα μου ως επενδυτην και διαδημα.14 I put on justice, and I clothed myself with my judgment, like a robe and a diadem.
Ημην οφθαλμος εις τον τυφλον και πους εις τον χωλον εγω.15 I was an eye for the blind and a foot for the lame.
Ημην πατηρ εις τους πτωχους, και την δικην την οποιαν δεν εγνωριζον εξιχνιαζον.16 I was the father of the poor; and if I lacked knowledge about any case, I investigated very diligently.
Και συνετριβον τους κυνοδοντας του αδικου και απεσπων το θηραμα απο των οδοντων αυτου.17 I crushed the jaws of the impious, and I took away prey from his teeth.
Τοτε ελεγον, θελω αποθανει εν τη φωλεα μου και ως την αμμον θελω πολλαπλασιασει τας ημερας μου.18 And I said, “I will die in my little nest, and like a palm tree, I will multiply my days.
Η ριζα μου ητο ανοικτη προς τα υδατα, και η δροσος διενυκτερευεν επι των κλαδων μου.19 My root has been spread beside the waters, and the dew will remain with my harvest.
Η δοξα μου ανενεουτο εν εμοι, και το τοξον μου εκρατυνετο εν τη χειρι μου.20 My glory will always be restored, and my bow will be restored to my hand.”
Με ηκροαζοντο προσεχοντες και εις την συμβουλην μου εσιωπων.21 Those who heard me, expected vindication, and they listened closely in silence to my counsel.
Μετα τους λογους μου δεν προσεθετον ουδεν, και η ομιλια μου εσταλαζεν επ' αυτους.22 To my words, they dared to add nothing, and my eloquence poured over them.
Και με περιεμενον ως την βροχην? και ησαν κεχηνοτες ως δια την οψιμον βροχην.23 They waited for me as for rain, and they opened their mouth as for belated rains.
Εγελων προς αυτους, και δεν επιστευον? και την φαιδροτητα του προσωπου μου δεν αφινον να πεση.24 If I had ever laughed at them, they would not have believed it, and the light of my face was not cast down towards the ground.
Εαν ηρεσκομην εις την οδον αυτων, εκαθημην πρωτος, και κατεσκηνουν ως βασιλευς εν τω στρατευματι, ως ο παρηγορων τους τεθλιμμενους.25 If I wished to go to them, I sat down first, and, though I sat like a king surrounded by an army, yet I was a comforter to whose who mourned.
