Και εξηκολουθησεν ο Ιωβ την παραβολην αυτου και ειπεν?1 Job also added, taking up his parable, and said:
Ω να ημην ως εις τους παρελθοντας μηνας, ως εν ταις ημεραις οτε ο Θεος με εφυλαττεν?2 Who will grant me, that I might be according to the months past, according to the days in which God kept me?
οτε ο λυχνος αυτου εφεγγεν επι της κεφαλης μου, και δια του φωτος αυτου περιεπατουν εν τω σκοτει?3 When his lamp shined over my head, and I walked by his light in darkness?
καθως ημην εν ταις ημεραις της ακμης μου, οτε η ευνοια του Θεου ητο επι την σκηνην μου?4 As I was in the days of my youth, when God was secretly in my tabernacle?
οτε ο Παντοδυναμος ητο μετ' εμου, και τα παιδια μου κυκλω μου?5 When the Almighty was with me: and my servants round about me?
οτε επλυνον τα βηματα μου με βουτυρον, και ο βραχος εξεχεε δι' εμε ποταμους ελαιου?6 When I washed my feet with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil?
οτε δια της πολεως εξηρχομην εις την πυλην, ητοιμαζον την καθεδραν μου εν τη πλατεια7 When I went out to the gate of the city, and in the street they prepared me a chair?
Οι νεοι με εβλεπον και εκρυπτοντο? και οι γεροντες εγειρομενοι ισταντο.8 The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the old men rose up and stood.
Οι αρχοντες επαυον ομιλουντες και εβαλλον χειρα επι το στομα αυτων.9 The princes ceased to speak, and laid the finger on their mouth.
Η φωνη των εγκριτων εκρατειτο, και η γλωσσα αυτων εκολλατο εις τον ουρανισκον αυτων.10 The rulers held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to their throat.
Οτε το ωτιον ηκουε και με εμακαριζε, και ο οφθαλμος εβλεπε και εμαρτυρει υπερ εμου?11 The ear that heard me blessed me, and the eye that saw me gave witness to me:
διοτι ηλευθερουν τον πτωχον βοωντα και τον ορφανον τον μη εχοντα βοηθον.12 Because I had delivered the poor man that cried out; and the fatherless that had no helper.
Η ευλογια του απολλυμενου ηρχετο επ' εμε? και την καρδιαν της χηρας ευφραινον.13 The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me, and I comforted the heart of the widow.
Εφορουν δικαιοσυνην και ενεδυομην την ευθυτητα μου ως επενδυτην και διαδημα.14 I was clad with justice: and I clothed myself with my judgment, as with a robe and a diadem.
Ημην οφθαλμος εις τον τυφλον και πους εις τον χωλον εγω.15 I was an eye to the blind, and a foot to the lame.
Ημην πατηρ εις τους πτωχους, και την δικην την οποιαν δεν εγνωριζον εξιχνιαζον.16 I was the father of the poor: and the cause which I knew not, I searched out most diligently.
Και συνετριβον τους κυνοδοντας του αδικου και απεσπων το θηραμα απο των οδοντων αυτου.17 I broke the jaws of the wicked man, and out of his teeth I took away the prey.
Τοτε ελεγον, θελω αποθανει εν τη φωλεα μου και ως την αμμον θελω πολλαπλασιασει τας ημερας μου.18 And I said: I shall die in my nest, and as a palm tree shall multiply my days.
Η ριζα μου ητο ανοικτη προς τα υδατα, και η δροσος διενυκτερευεν επι των κλαδων μου.19 My root is opened beside the waters, and dew shall continue in my harvest.
Η δοξα μου ανενεουτο εν εμοι, και το τοξον μου εκρατυνετο εν τη χειρι μου.20 My glory shall always be renewed, and my bow in my hand shall be repaired.
Με ηκροαζοντο προσεχοντες και εις την συμβουλην μου εσιωπων.21 They that heard me, waited for my sentence, and being attentive held their peace at my counsel.
Μετα τους λογους μου δεν προσεθετον ουδεν, και η ομιλια μου εσταλαζεν επ' αυτους.22 To my words they durst add nothing, and my speech dropped upon them.
Και με περιεμενον ως την βροχην? και ησαν κεχηνοτες ως δια την οψιμον βροχην.23 They waited for me as for rain, and they opened their mouth as for a latter shower.
Εγελων προς αυτους, και δεν επιστευον? και την φαιδροτητα του προσωπου μου δεν αφινον να πεση.24 If at any time I laughed on them, they believed not, and the light of my countenance fell not on earth.
Εαν ηρεσκομην εις την οδον αυτων, εκαθημην πρωτος, και κατεσκηνουν ως βασιλευς εν τω στρατευματι, ως ο παρηγορων τους τεθλιμμενους.25 If I had a mind to go to them, I sat first, and when I sat as a king, with his army standing about him, yet I was a comforter of them that mourned.
