Psalms 55

1 Unto the end, in verses, understanding for David.	1 Al maestro di coro. Sulle corde. Maskil. Di Davide.
2 Hear, O God, my prayer, and despise not my supplication:	2 Ascolta, o Dio, la mia preghiera e non ti nascondere dalla mia implorazione;
	3 prestami attenzione ed esaudiscimi: sono in ansia nella mia tristezza e sono turbato
4 the same are darts.	4 alle grida del nemico, al clamore del malvagio; poiché essi fanno cadere su di me sventure e con rabbia mi avversano.
5 be attentive to me and hear me. I am grieved in my exercise; and am troubled,	5 Il mio cuore trema nel mio petto, e terrori di morte si sono abbattuti su di me.
6 at the voice of the enemy, and at the tribulation of the sinner. For they have cast iniquities upon me: and in wrath they were troublesome to me.	6 Timore e tremore vengono dentro di me e l'orrore mi sommerge.
7 My heart is troubled within me: and the fear of death is fallen upon me.	7 Per questo dico: "Oh, se avessi le ali! Come aquila volerei in cerca di riposo.
8 Fear and trembling are come upon me: and darkness hath covered me.	8 Ecco: lontano fuggirei per starmene nel deserto.
9 And I said: Who will give me wings like a dove, and I will fly and be at rest?	9 Vorrei là fuggire dov'è per me uno scampo, al riparo dal vento che infuria, lontano da ogni tempesta".
10 Lo, I have gone far off flying away; and I abode in the wilderness.	10 Disperdili, o Signore, confondi le loro lingue, poiché violenza vedo e rissa nella città;
11 I waited for him that hath saved me from pusillanimity of spirit, and a storm.	11 giorno e notte la circondano al di sopra delle sue mura, in essa regnano malvagità e nequizia.
12 Cast down, O Lord, and divide their tongues; for I have seen iniquity and contradiction in the city.	12 Insidie regnano nel suo interno e non si allontanano dalla sua piazza oppressione e frode.
13 Day and night shall iniquity surround it upon its walls: and in the midst thereof are labour,	13 Certo, non è un nemico che m'insulta: lo potrei sopportare. Non è chi mi odia che su di me s'inorgoglisce: mi potrei nascondere da lui.
14 and injustice. And usury and deceit have not departed from its streets.	14 Ma tu, uomo a me pari, a me amico e familiare...
15 For if my enemy had reviled me, I would verily have borne with it. And if he that hated me had spoken great things against me, I would perhaps have hidden myself from him.	15 Un dolce colloquio era fra noi, in letizia camminavamo nella casa di Dio.
16 But thou a man of one mind, my guide, and my familiar,	16 S'abbatta la morte su di loro, scendano vivi negli inferi, poiché v'è nequizia dentro le loro dimore.
17 Who didst take sweetmeats together with me: in the house of God we walked with consent.	17 Io invoco il Signore ed egli mi salverà.
18 Let death come upon them, and let them go down alive into hell. For there is wickedness in their dwellings: in the midst of them.	18 Sera e mattino e mezzodì voglio gemere e sospirare, affinché oda la mia voce;
19 But I have cried to God: and the Lord will save me.	19 riscatterà in pace l'anima mia da coloro che mi assalgono, poiché in molti si sono levati contro di me.
20 Evening and morning, and at noon I will speak and declare: and he shall hear my voice.	20 Ascolterà Dio e li umilierà egli che troneggia dall'eternità; poiché non ci sono per loro mutamenti: non temono Dio.
21 He shall redeem my soul in peace from them that draw near to me: for among many they were with me.	21 Alzò le sue mani contro i suoi alleati, infranse il suo patto.
22 God shall hear, and the Eternal shall humble them. For there is no change with them, and they have not feared God:	22 Morbida più che burro è la sua bocca, guerra è invece nel suo cuore; molli sono le sue parole più che olio, esse invece sono spade affilate.
23 he hath stretched forth his hand to repay. They have defiled his covenant,	23 Getta sul Signore il tuo affanno, ed egli ti sosterrà: non lascerà che in eterno vacilli il giusto.
24 they are divided by the wrath Of his countenance, and his heart hath drawn near. His words are smoother than oil, and	24 E tu, o Dio, li farai discendere nel profondo della fossa, gli uomini di sangue e di frode non raggiungeranno la metà dei loro giorni. Io invece mi voglio rifugiare in te.
25 Cast thy care upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall not suffer the just to waver for ever.
