| 5 Chegou, pois, a uma cidade da Samaria chamada Sicar, junto da herdade que Jacó deu a seu filho José. | 5 Therefore, he went into a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the estate which Jacob gave to his son Joseph. |
| 6 Estava lá o poço de Jacó. Fatigado da viagem, Jesus sentou-se sobre a borda do poço. Era quase a hora sexta. | 6 And Jacob’s well was there. And so Jesus, being tired from the journey, was sitting in a certain way on the well. It was about the sixth hour. |
| 7 Veio uma mulher da Samaria tirar água. Jesus disse-lhe: "Dá-me de beber." | 7 A woman of Samaria arrived to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me to drink.” |
| 8 Os seus discípulos tinham ido à cidade comprar mantimentos. | 8 For his disciples had gone into the city in order to buy food. |
| 9 Disse-lhe, porém, a mulher Samaritana: "Com o, sendo tu judeu, me pedes de beber a mim, que sou samaritana?" Com efeito os Judeus não comunicam com os Samaritanos. | 9 And so, that Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, being a Jew, are requesting a drink from me, though I am a Samaritan woman?” For the Jews do not associate with the Samaritans. |
| 10 Jesus respondeu: "Se tu conheceras o dom de Deus, e quem é que te diz: Dá-me de beber, certamente lhe pedirias, e ele te daria de uma água viva." | 10 Jesus responded and said to her: “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who is saying to you, ‘Give me to drink,’ perhaps you would have made a request of him, and he would have given you living water.” |
| 11 A mulher disse-lhe; "Senhor, tu não tens com que a tirar, e o poço é fundo; donde tens, pois, essa água viva? | 11 The woman said to him: “Lord, you do not have anything with which to draw water, and the well is deep. From where, then, do you have living water? |
| 12 És tu, porventura, maior do que o nosso pai Jacó, que nos deu este poço, do qual ele mesmo bebeu, e os seus filhos e os seus gados?" | 12 Surely, you are not greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and who drank from it, with his sons and his cattle?” |
| 13 Jesus respondeu: "Todo aquele que bebe desta água tornará a ter sede, | 13 Jesus responded and said to her: “All who drink from this water will thirst again. But whoever shall drink from the water that I will give to him will not thirst for eternity. |
| 14 mas o que beber da água que eu lhe der, jamais terá sede: a água que eu lhe der, virá a ser nele uma fonte de água que salte para a vida eterna." | 14 Instead, the water that I will give to him will become in him a fountain of water, springing up into eternal life.” |
| 15 A mulher disse-lhe: "Senhor, dá-me dessa água, pára eu não ter mais sede, nem vir aqui tirá-la." | 15 The woman said to him, “Lord, give me this water, so that I may not thirst and may not come here to draw water.” |
| 16 Jesus disse-lhe: "Vai, chama teu marido e vem cá." | 16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and return here.” |
| 17 A mulher respondeu: "Não tenho marido." Jesus replicou: "Disseste bem: não tenho marido; | 17 The woman responded and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her: “You have spoken well, in saying, ‘I have no husband.’ |
| 18 porque tiveste cinco maridos, e o que agora tens, não é teu marido; isto disseste com verdade." | 18 For you have had five husbands, but he whom you have now is not your husband. You have spoken this in truth.” |
| 19 A mulher disse-lhe: "Senhor, vejo que és profeta. | 19 The woman said to him: “Lord, I see that you are a Prophet. |
| 20 Nossos pais adoraram sobre esta montanha, e vós dizeis que em Jerusalém é o lugar onde se deve adorar." | 20 Our fathers worshipped on this mountain, but you say that Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” |
| 21 Jesus disse-lhe: "Mulher, crê-me que é chegada a hora, em que não adorareis o Pai, nem nesta montanha, nem em Jerusalém. | 21 Jesus said to her: “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when you shall worship the Father, neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem. |
| 22 Vós adorais o que não conheceis, nós adoramos o que conhecemos, porque dos Judeus é que vem a salvação. | 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know. For salvation is from the Jews. |
| 23 Mas vem a hora, e já chegou, em que os verdadeiros adoradores adorarão o Pai em espírito e verdade, porque é destes adoradores que o Pai deseja. | 23 But the hour is coming, and it is now, when true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father also seeks such persons who may worship him. |
| 24 Deus é espírito, e em espírito e verdade é que o devem adorar os que o adoram." | 24 God is Spirit. And so, those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” |
| 25 A mulher disse-lhe: "Eu sei que deve vir o Messias que se chama Cristo; quando, pois, ele vier, nos anunciará todas as coisas." | 25 The woman said to him: “I know that the Messiah is coming (who is called the Christ). And then, when he will have arrived, he will announce everything to us.” |
| 26 Jesus disse-lhe: "Sou eu, que falo contigo." | 26 Jesus said to her: “I am he, the one who is speaking with you.” |
| 27 Nisto chegaram seus discípulos, e maravilharam-se de que estivesse falando com uma mulher. Nenhum contudo lhe disse: "Que é o que perguntas?" ou: "Por que falas com ela?" | 27 And then his disciples arrived. And they wondered that he was speaking with the woman. Yet no one said: “What are you seeking?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” |
| 28 A mulher, então, deixou o seu cântaro, foi à cidade e disse àquela gente: | 28 And so the woman left behind her water jar and went into the city. And she said to the men there: |
| 29 "Vinde ver um homem, que me disse tudo o que eu tenho feito; será este porventura o Cristo?" | 29 “Come and see a man who has told me all the things that I have done. Is he not the Christ?” |
| 30 Saíram da cidade e foram ter com ele. | 30 Therefore, they went out of the city and came to him. |
| 31 Entretanto seus discípulos instavam com ele, dizendo: "Mestre, come." | 31 Meanwhile, the disciples petitioned him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” |
| 32 Mas ele respondeu-lhes: "Eu tenho um alimento para comer, que vós não sabeis." | 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat which you do not know.” |
| 33 Pelo que diziam os discípulos uns para os outros: "Será caso que alguém lhe trouxesse de comer?" | 33 Therefore, the disciples said to one another, “Could someone have brought him something to eat?” |
| 34 Jesus disse-lhes: "A minha comida é fazer a vontade daquele que me enviou e cumprir a sua obra. | 34 Jesus said to them: “My food is to do the will of the One who sent me, so that I may perfect his work. |
| 35 Não dizeis vós que ainda há quatro meses até à ceifa? Mãe eu digo-vos: Levantai os olhos e vede os campos que já estão branquejando para a ceifa. | 35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months, and then the harvest arrives?’ Behold, I say to you: Lift up your eyes and look at the countryside; for it is already ripe for the harvest. |
| 36 O que sega recebe recompensa e junta o fruto para a vida eterna, para que assim o que semeia, como o que sega, juntamente se regozijem. | 36 For he who reaps, receives wages and gathers fruit unto eternal life, so that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. |
| 37 Porque nisto se verifica o ditado: Um é o que semeia, e outro o que sega. | 37 For in this the word is true: that it is one who sows, and it is another who reaps. |
| 38 Eu enviei-vos a segar o que vós não trabalhaste; outros trabalharam, e vós recolheis o fruto dos seus trabalhos." | 38 I have sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.” |
| 39 Muitos Samaritanos daquela cidade creram em Jesus, por causa da palavra daquela mulher, que dava este testemunho: "Ele disse-me tudo o que tenho feito." | 39 Now many of the Samaritans from that city believed in him, because of the word of the woman who was offering testimony: “For he told me all the things that I have done.” |
| 40 Vindo, pois, ter com ele os Samaritanos, pediram-lhe que ficasse com eles. Ficou lá dois dias. | 40 Therefore, when the Samaritans had come to him, they petitioned him to lodge there. And he lodged there for two days. |
| 41 Muitos mais creram nele em virtude da sua palavra. | 41 And many more believed in him, because of his own word. |
| 42 E diziam à mulher: "Não é já pela tua palavra que cremos nele, mas é porque nós próprios o ouvimos, e sabemos que ele é verdadeiramente o Salvador do mundo." | 42 And they said to the woman: “Now we believe, not because of your speech, but because we ourselves have heard him, and so we know that he is truly the Savior of the world.” |
| 43 Passados dois dias, partiu Jesus dali para a Galileia. | 43 Then, after two days, he departed from there, and he traveled into Galilee. |
| 44 Porque o mesmo Jesus tinha afirmado que um profeta não tem respeito na sua pátria. | 44 For Jesus himself offered testimony that a Prophet has no honor in his own country. |
| 45 Tendo chegado à Galileia, receberam-no bem os Galileus, porque tinham visto todas as coisas que ele havia feito em Jerusalém no dia da festa; pois também tinham ido à festa | 45 And so, when he had arrived in Galilee, the Galileans received him, because they had seen all that he had done at Jerusalem, in the day of the feast. For they also went to the feast day. |
| 46 Foi, pois, novamente a Caná da Galileia, onde tinha convertido a água em vinho. Havia em Cafarnaum um funcionário real, cujo filho estava doente. | 46 Then he went again into Cana of Galilee, where he made water into wine. And there was a certain ruler, whose son was sick at Capernaum. |
| 47 Este, tendo ouvido dizer que Jesus chegara da Judeia à Galileia, foi ter com ele e rogou-lhe que fosse a sua casa curar seu filho, que estava a morrer. | 47 Since he had heard that Jesus came to Galilee from Judea, he sent to him and begged him to come down and heal his son. For he was beginning to die. |
| 48 Jesus disse-lhe: "Vós, se não virdes milagres e prodígios, não credes." | 48 Therefore, Jesus said to him, “Unless you have seen signs and wonders, you do not believe.” |
| 49 O funcionário real disse-lhe: "Senhor, vem antes que meu filho morra" | 49 The ruler said to him, “Lord, come down before my son dies.” |
| 50 Jesus disse-lhe: "Vai, o teu filho vive." Deu o homem crédito ao que Jesus lhe disse, e partiu | 50 Jesus said to him, “Go, your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and so he went away. |
| 51 Quando já ia para casa, vieram os criados ao seu encontro, e deram-lhe a nova de que seu filho vivia. | 51 Then, as he was going down, his servants met him. And they reported to him, saying that his son was alive. |
| 52 Perguntou-lhes a hora em que o doente se achara melhor. Disseram-lhe: "Ontem, à hora sétima, o deixou a febre." | 52 Therefore, he asked them at which hour he had become better. And they said to him, “Yesterday, at the seventh hour, the fever left him.” |
| 53 Reconheceu então o pai ser aquela mesma a hora em que Jesus lhe dissera: "Teu filho vive". Acreditou ele, assim como toda a sua família. | 53 Then the father realized that it was at the same hour that Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And both he and his entire household believed. |
| 54 Foi este o segundo milagre que Jesus fez, depois de ter vindo da Judeia para a Galileia. | 54 This next sign was the second that Jesus accomplished, after he had arrived in Galilee from Judea. |
