| 2 It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out. |
| 3 (Como) o céu na sua altura, e a terra na sua profundidade, assim o coração dos reis é impenetrável. | 3 As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, so the mind of kings is unsearchable. |
| 4 Tira as escórias da prata, e sairá um vaso puríssimo; Tira o iníquo da presença do rei, e o seu trono se firmará na justiça. | 4 Take away the dross from the silver, and the smith has material for a vessel; |
| 5 take away the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness. |
| 6 Não apareças ufano diante do rei, e não te ponhas no lugar dos grandes. É melhor que te digam: "Sobe para cá", do que seres humilhado diante dum grande. | 6 Do not put yourself forward in the king's presence or stand in the place of the great; |

| 8 O que teus olhos viram, não o descubras com precipitação numa contenda, pois, que farás, no fim, quando o teu próximo te houver confundido? | 8 do not hastily bring into court; for what will you do in the end, when your neighbor puts you to shame? |
| 9 Defende a tua causa contra o teu próximo, mas não descubras o segredo de outrém, | 9 Argue your case with your neighbor himself, and do not disclose another's secret; |
| 10 não suceda que te envergonhe o que te ouvir, e se não apague a tua ignomínia. | 10 lest he who hears you bring shame upon you, and your ill repute have no end. |
| 11 Como maçãs de oiro em bandejas de prata, assim as palavras ditas no seu devido tempo. | 11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver. |
| 12 Como uma arrecada de oiro e uma jóia refulgente, assim é a repreensão dada por um sábio a um ouvido dócil. | 12 Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold is a wise reprover to a listening ear. |
| 13 Como a frescura da neve no tempo da ceifa, assim é o embaixador fiel para quem o enviou: ele dá descanso à alma de seu senhor. | 13 Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest is a faithful messenger to those who send him, he refreshes the spirit of his masters. |
| 14 Como o vento e as nuvens que não trazem chuva, assim é o homem que se vangloria de liberalidade que não praticou. | 14 Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of a gift he does not give. |
| 15 O príncipe deixar-se-á aplacar pela paciência. e a língua doce quebrantará a dureza. | 15 With patience a ruler may be persuaded, and a soft tongue will break a bone. |
| 16 Se achaste mel, come só o suficiente, para que não suceda que, depois de farto, o vomites. | 16 If you have found honey, eat only enough for you, lest you be sated with it and vomit it. |
| 17 Põe raramente o teu pé na casa do teu próximo, para que não sucede que ele, enfastiado, te venha a aborrecer. | 17 Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he become weary of you and hate you. |
| 18 Maça, espada, seta penetrante, isso é o homem que diz um falso testemunho contra o seu próximo. | 18 A man who bears false witness against his neighbor is like a war club, or a sword, or a sharp arrow. |
| 19 Como um dente podre e um pé que resvala, assim é o apoio do desleal no dia da desventura. | 19 Trust in a faithless man in time of trouble is like a bad tooth or a foot that slips. |
| 20 Tirar a capa num dia de frio, lançar vinagre sobre uma chaga, isso faz aquele que canta canções a um coração aflito. | 20 He who sings songs to a heavy heart is like one who takes off a garment on a cold day, and like vinegar on a wound. |
| 21 Se o teu inimigo tiver fome, dá-lhe de comer, se tiver sede, dá-lhe água para beber, | 21 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; |
| 22 porque assim amontoarás brasas vivas sobre a sua cabeça, e o Senhor te dará a paga. | 22 for you will heap coals of fire on his head, and the LORD will reward you. |
| 23 O vento do aquilão traz as chuvas, e a língua detractora, às ocultas, ensombra os semblantes. | 23 The north wind brings forth rain; and a backbiting tongue, angry looks. |
| 24 É melhor habitar a um canto do terraço, do que viver com uma mulher litigiosa em espaçosa casa. Como a água fresca para pessoa que tem sede, assim é uma boa nova que vem dum país remoto. | 24 It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a contentious woman. |
| 25 Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. |
| 26 Como uma fonte turbada, como uma nascente de água corrompida, assim é o justo que vacila diante do ímpio. | 26 Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked. |
| 27 Assim como não faz bem o mel àquele que o come em demasia, assim o que quer sondar a majestade (divina) será oprimido pela sua glória. | 27 It is not good to eat much honey, so be sparing of complimentary words. |
| 28 Como uma cidade desmantelada, sem muros, assim é aquele que, quando fala. não pode conter o seu espírito. | 28 A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls. |
