| 1 Meu filho, se receberes as minhas palavras, e tiveres os meus mandamentos dentro do teu coração, | 1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; |
| 2 de sorte que o teu ouvido esteja atento à voz da sabedoria, e o teu coração inclinado à prudência; | 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; |
| 3 se tu invocares a sabedoria, se inclinares o teu coração para a prudência; | 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; |
| 4 se a buscares como o dinheiro, e procurares desenterrá-la como se faz com os tesouros, então compreenderás o temor do Senhor, e chegarás ao conhecimento de Deus. | 4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; |
| 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. |
| 6 Com efeito o Senhor é quem dá a sabedoria, e da sua boca procedem a prudência e a ciência. Ele reserva a salvação para os justos, protege os que caminham rectamente, | 6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. |
| 7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. |
| 8 sendo ele mesmo que defende o caminho da justiça e dirige os passos dos santos (durante esta vida). | 8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. |
| 9 Então conhecerás a justiça, a rectidão, a equidade, todos os bons caminhos. | 9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path. |
| 10 Se a sabedoria entrar no teu coração, e a ciência agradar à tua alma, | 10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; |
| 11 a reflexão te guardará, e a prudência te conservará, | 11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: |
| 12 a fim de seres livre do caminho mau e do homem que fala coisas perversas, | 12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; |
| 13 dos que abandonam o caminho recto, e andam por caminhos tenebrosos, | 13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; |
| 14 que se alegram por terem feito o mal e se regozijam na perversidade, | 14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; |
| 15 cujos caminhos são tortuosos cujas vias são oblíquas. | 15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths: |
| 16 Preservar-te-á da mulher alheia (ou dissoluta) da estranha que usa de palavras lúbricas, | 16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; |
| 17 que abandona o companheiro da sua juventude, | 17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God. |
| 18 e esquece a aliança do seu Deus. A sua casa declina para a morte, as suas veredas para a morada dos mortos. | 18 For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead. |
| 19 Todos os que têm trato com ela, não voltarão atrás, nem retomarão as veredas da vida. | 19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life. |
| 20 Segue (meu filho) o bom caminho, anda nas vias dos justos | 20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous. |
| 21 Porque os que são rectos, habitarão na terra, nela permanecerão os íntegros. | 21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. |
| 22 Porém os ímpios serão exterminados da terra, os que procedem iniquamente serão arrancados dela. | 22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it. |
