| 35 Jónatas enviou seu irmão, que comandava o povo, a rogar aos Nabateus, seus amigos, que permitissem deixar-lhes depositado o seu equipamento, que era muito grande. | 35 And Jonathan * sent his brother as leader of the multitude and begged the Nabateans, who were his friends, for permission to store with them the great amount of baggage which they had. |

Caíram muitos feridos, e os restantes fugiram para os montes, enquanto (os agressores) tomavam todos os seus despojos. | 40 Then they rushed upon them from the ambush and began killing them. Many were wounded and fell, and the rest fled to the mountain; and they took all their goods. |
| 41 As bodas converteram-se, pois, em luto, e os seus concertos músicos em lamentos. | 41 Thus the wedding was turned into mourning and the voice of their musicians into a funeral dirge. |
| 42 Depois de vingarem o sangue de seu irmão desta maneira, voltaram para a margem do Jordão. | 42 And when they had fully avenged the blood of their brother, they returned to the marshes of the Jordan. |
| 43 Báquides soube disto e foi com um poderoso exército, em dia de sábado, até à margem do Jordão. | 43 When Bacchides heard of this, he came with a large force on the sabbath day to the banks of the Jordan. |
| 44 Jónatas disse aos seus: Vamos pelejar contra os nossos inimigos, porque hoje não é como ontem e anteontem; | 44 And Jonathan said to those with him, "Let us rise up now and fight for our lives, for today things are not as they were before. |

| 55 mas, nessa altura, Alcimo foi ferido (pela mão de Deus), e não pôde acabar o que tinha começado: cerrou-se-lhe a boca, ficou tolhido de paralisia, sem poder mais pronunciar uma palavra, nem fazer disposição alguma relativamente à sua casa. | 55 But he only began to tear it down, for at that time Alcimus was stricken and his work was hindered; his mouth was stopped and he was paralyzed, so that he could no longer say a word or give commands concerning his house. |
| 56 (Assim) morreu Alcimo neste tempo, atormentado de grandes dores. | 56 And Alcimus died at that time in great agony. |
| 57 Vendo Báquides que Alcimo tinha morrido, voltou para o rei, e o pais ficou em repouso durante dois anos, | 57 When Bacchides saw that Alcimus was dead, he returned to the king, and the land of Judah had rest for two years. |

| 61 Pelo contrário, (os de Jónatas) prenderam cinquenta homens do país, chefes daquela conspiração, e mandaram-nos matar. | 61 And Jonathan's men * seized about fifty of the men of the country who were leaders in this treachery, and killed them. |
| 62 Em seguida retirou-se Jónatas, com Simão e os seus partidários, para Betbasi, que está no deserto. Repararam as suas ruínas e fizeram dela uma forte praça. | 62 Then Jonathan with his men, and Simon, withdrew to Bethbasi in the wilderness; he rebuilt the parts of it that had been demolished, and they fortified it. |
| 63 Quando Báquides o soube, juntou logo todas as suas tropas e avisou do que se passava os seus amigos da Judeia. | 63 When Bacchides learned of this, he assembled all his forces, and sent orders to the men of Judea. |
| 64 Foi acampar perto de Betbasi, que sitiou durante muitos dias, atacando-a com máquinas de guerra. | 64 Then he came and encamped against Bethbasi; he fought against it for many days and made machines of war. |
| 65 Porém Jónatas, deixando Simão, seu irmão, na cidade, saiu para o campo com um reduzido corpo de tropas | 65 But Jonathan left Simon his brother in the city, while he went out into the country; and he went with only a few men. |
| 66 e derrotou Odomera e seus irmãos e os filhos de Faseron, dentro das suas próprias tendas, e começou a dar combates e a aumentar em número. | 66 He struck down Odomera and his brothers and the sons of Phasiron in their tents. |
| 67 Entretanto Simão e os que com ele estavam saíram da cidade e queimaram os máquinas de guerra; | 67 Then he * began to attack and went into battle with his forces; and Simon and his men sallied out from the city and set fire to the machines of war. |
| 68 depois atacaram e desbarataram Báquides, que ficou muito desgostoso, ao ver que tinham saído frustrados os seus desígnios e a sua empresa. | 68 They fought with Bacchides, and he was crushed by them. They distressed him greatly, for his plan and his expedition had been in vain. |
| 69 Irritado contra aqueles homens iníquos, que lhe deram o conselho de vir à terra deles, matou muitos e resolveu voltar para o seu país. | 69 So he was greatly enraged at the lawless men who had counseled him to come into the country, and he killed many of them. Then he decided to depart to his own land. |
| 70 Jónatas, ao saber disto, mandou-lhe embaixadores para fazer pazes com ele e tratar da entrega dos prisioneiros. | 70 When Jonathan learned of this, he sent ambassadors to him to make peace with him and obtain release of the captives. |
| 71 Báquides recebeu-os favoravelmente e consentiu no que Jónatas queria, jurando que em todos os dias da sua vida lhe não faria mal algum. | 71 He agreed, and did as he said; and he swore to Jonathan * that he would not try to harm him as long as he lived. |
| 72 Restituiu-lhe os prisioneiros, que antes tinha feito cativos na terra de Judá, e depois voltou para o seu país e não quis mais voltar á terra (dos Judeus). | 72 He restored to him the captives whom he had formerly taken from the land of Judah; then he turned and departed to his own land, and came no more into their territory. |
| 73 Assim repousou a espada em Israel. Jónatas fixou residência em Macmas; ali começou a julgar o povo e exterminou os ímpios do meio de Israel. | 73 Thus the sword ceased from Israel. And Jonathan dwelt in Michmash. And Jonathan began to judge the people, and he destroyed the ungodly out of Israel. |
