Ad Thessalonicenses I 1

VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Paulus, et Silvanus, et Timotheus ecclesiæ Thessalonicensium in Deo Patre, et Domino Jesu Christo.	1 Paul, Silvanus and Timothy, to the Church in Thessalonica which is in God the Father and the LordJesus Christ. Grace to you and peace.
2 Gratia vobis, et pax. Gratias agimus Deo semper pro omnibus vobis, memoriam vestri facientes in orationibus nostris sine intermissione,	2 We always thank God for you al , mentioning you in our prayers continually.
3 memores operis fidei vestræ, et laboris, et caritatis, et sustinentiæ spei Domini nostri Jesu Christi, ante Deum et Patrem nostrum :	3 We remember before our God and Father how active is the faith, how unsparing the love, howpersevering the hope which you have from our Lord Jesus Christ.
4 scientes, fratres dilecti a Deo, electionem vestram :	4 We know, brothers loved by God, that you have been chosen,
5 quia Evangelium nostrum non fuit ad vos in sermone tantum, sed et in virtute, et in Spiritu Sancto, et in plenitudine multa, sicut scitis quales fuerimus in vobis propter vos.	5 because our gospel came to you not only in words, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and withgreat effect. And you observed the sort of life we lived when we were with you, which was for your sake.
6 Et vos imitatores nostri facti estis, et Domini, excipientes verbum in tribulatione multa, cum gaudio Spiritus Sancti :	6 You took us and the Lord as your model, welcoming the word with the joy of the Holy Spirit in spite ofgreat hardship.
7 ita ut facti sitis forma omnibus credentibus in Macedonia, et in Achaia.	7 And so you became an example to al believers in Macedonia and Achaia
8 A vobis enim diffamatus est sermo Domini, non solum in Macedonia, et in Achaia, sed et in omni loco fides vestra, quæ est ad Deum, profecta est ita ut non sit nobis necesse quidquam loqui.	8 since it was from you that the word of the Lord rang out -- and not only throughout Macedonia andAchaia, for your faith in God has spread everywhere. We do not need to tel other people about it:
9 Ipsi enim de nobis annuntiant qualem introitum habuerimus ad vos : et quomodo conversi estis ad Deum a simulacris, servire Deo vivo, et vero,	9 other people tel us how we started the work among you, how you broke with the worship of false godswhen you were converted to God and became servants of the living and true God;
10 et exspectare Filium ejus de cælis (quem suscitavit a mortuis) Jesum, qui eripuit nos ab ira ventura.	10 and how you are now waiting for Jesus, his Son, whom he raised from the dead, to come fromheaven. It is he who saves us from the Retribution which is coming.
