Ezechielis 8

VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Et factum est in anno sexto, in sexto mense, in quinta mensis, ego sedebam in domo mea, et senes Juda sedebant coram me, et cecidit ibi super me manus Domini Dei.	1 In the sixth year, on the fifth day of the sixth month, I was sitting at home and the elders of Judah weresitting with me, when suddenly the hand of the Lord Yahweh fel on me there.
2 Et vidi : et ecce similitudo quasi aspectus ignis : ab aspectu lumborum ejus et deorsum, ignis : et a lumbis ejus et sursum, quasi aspectus splendoris, ut visio electri.	2 I looked, and there was a form with the appearance of a human being. Downwards from what seemedto be the waist there was fire; and upwards from the waist there was a bril iance like the glitter of amber.
3 Et emissa similitudo manus apprehendit me in cincinno capitis mei, et elevavit me spiritus inter terram et cælum : et adduxit me in Jerusalem, in visione Dei, juxta ostium interius quod respiciebat ad aquilonem, ubi erat statutum idolum zeli ad provocandam æmulationem.	3 Something like a hand was stretched out and it took me by a lock of my hair; and the spirit lifted mebetween heaven and earth and, in visions from God, took me to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the inner northgate, where stands the idol that provokes jealousy.
4 Et ecce ibi gloria Dei Israël, secundum visionem quam videram in campo.	4 There was the glory of the God of Israel; it looked like what I had seen in the val ey.
5 Et dixit ad me : Fili hominis, leva oculos tuos ad viam aquilonis. Et levavi oculos meos ad viam aquilonis, et ecce ab aquilone portæ altaris idolum zeli in ipso introitu.	5 He said, 'Son of man, raise your eyes to the north.' I raised my eyes to the north, and there, to the northof the altar gate, stood this statue of jealousy at the entrance.
6 Et dixit ad me : Fili hominis, putasne vides tu quid isti faciunt, abominationes magnas quas domus Israël facit hic, ut procul recedam a sanctuario meo ? et adhuc conversus videbis abominationes majores.	6 He said, 'Son of man, do you see what they are doing, the monstrous, loathsome things that the Houseof Israel is practising here, to drive me out of my sanctuary? And you wil see practices more loathsome still.'
7 Et introduxit me ad ostium atrii, et vidi, et ecce foramen unum in pariete.	7 He next took me to the entrance to the court. I looked; there was a hole in the wal .
8 Et dixit ad me : Fili hominis, fode parietem. Et cum fodissem parietem, apparuit ostium unum.	8 He said, 'Son of man, bore through the wal .' I bored through the wall, until I had made an opening.
9 Et dixit ad me : Ingredere, et vide abominationes pessimas quas isti faciunt hic.	9 He said, 'Go in and look at the loathsome things they are doing inside.'
10 Et ingressus vidi, et ecce omnis similitudo reptilium et animalium, abominatio, et universa idola domus Israël, depicta erant in pariete in circuitu per totum :	10 I went in and looked and there was every kind of reptile and repulsive animal, and al the foul idols ofthe House of Israel, carved al round the walls.
11 et septuaginta viri de senioribus domus Israël : et Jezonias filius Saphan stabat in medio eorum stantium ante picturas : et unusquisque habebat thuribulum in manu sua, et vapor nebulæ de thure consurgebat.	11 Seventy elders of the House of Israel were worshipping the idols -- among them Jaazaniah son ofShaphan -- each one with his censer in his hand, from which rose a fragrant cloud of incense.
12 Et dixit ad me : Certe vides, fili hominis, quæ seniores domus Israël faciunt in tenebris, unusquisque in abscondito cubiculi sui : dicunt enim : Non videt Dominus nos ; dereliquit Dominus terram.	12 He said, 'Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the House of Israel do in the dark, each in hispersonal image-shrine? They say, "Yahweh cannot see us; Yahweh has abandoned the country." '
13 Et dixit ad me : Adhuc conversus videbis abominationes majores, quas isti faciunt.	13 He said, 'You wil see them at practices more loathsome stil .'
14 Et introduxit me per ostium portæ domus Domini quod respiciebat ad aquilonem, et ecce ibi mulieres sedebant plangentes Adonidem.	14 He next took me to the entrance of the north gate of the Temple of Yahweh where women were sitting,weeping for Tammuz.
15 Et dixit ad me : Certe vidisti, fili hominis : adhuc conversus videbis abominationes majores his.	15 He said, 'Son of man, do you see that? You will see even more loathsome things than that.'
16 Et introduxit me in atrium domus Domini interius, et ecce in ostio templi Domini, inter vestibulum et altare, quasi viginti quinque viri dorsa habentes contra templum Domini, et facies ad orientem : et adorabant ad ortum solis.	16 He then led me to the inner court of the Temple of Yahweh. And there, at the entrance to Yahweh'ssanctuary, between the portico and the altar, there were about twenty-five men, with their backs to Yahweh'ssanctuary and their faces turned towards the east. They were prostrating themselves to the east, before therising sun.
17 Et dixit ad me : Certe vidisti, fili hominis : numquid leve est hoc domui Juda, ut facerent abominationes istas quas fecerunt hic, quia replentes terram iniquitate, conversi sunt ad irritandum me ? et ecce applicant ramum ad nares suas.	17 He said to me, 'Son of man, do you see that? Is it not bad enough for the House of Judah to be doingthe loathsome things they are doing here? But they fil the country with violence and provoke my anger further;look at them now putting that branch to their nostrils.
18 Ergo et ego faciam in furore : non parcet oculus meus, nec miserebor : et cum clamaverint ad aures meas voce magna, non exaudiam eos.	18 And so I shal react in fury; I shal show neither pity nor mercy. They may cry as loudly as they like to me; I wil not listen.'
