VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 Et factum est verbum Domini ad me, dicens :1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,
2 Fili hominis, propheta, et dic : Hæc dicit Dominus Deus :
Ululate : Væ, væ diei !
2 'Son of man, prophesy and say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: Howl: Disaster day!
3 quia juxta est dies,
et appropinquat dies Domini, dies nubis :
tempus gentium erit.
3 For the day is near, the day of Yahweh is near; it wil be a day dark with cloud, a time of doom for thenations.
4 Et veniet gladius in Ægyptum,
et erit pavor in Æthiopia,
cum ceciderint vulnerati in Ægypto,
et ablata fuerit multitudo illius,
et destructa fundamenta ejus.
4 "The sword wil come on Egypt, and anguish on the country of Cush when the slaughtered fal inEgypt, when her riches are carried away and her foundations are destroyed.
5 Æthiopia, et Libya, et Lydi,
et omne reliquum vulgus,
et Chub, et filii terræ fœderis,
cum eis gladio cadent.
5 Cush, Put and Lud, all Arabia, Cub and the children of the country of the covenant will fal by thesword with them.
6 Hæc dicit Dominus Deus :
Et corruent fulcientes Ægyptum,
et destruetur superbia imperii ejus :
a turre Syenes gladio cadent in ea,
ait Dominus Deus exercituum.
6 "Yahweh says this: "The supports of Egypt wil fall; the pride of her strength wil crumble; they will fal by the sword from Migdol to Syene -- declares the Lord Yahweh.
7 Et dissipabuntur in medio terrarum desolatarum,
et urbes ejus in medio civitatum desertarum erunt :
7 "They will be the most desolate of desolate countries, and its cities the most ruined of cities.
8 et scient quia ego Dominus,
cum dedero ignem in Ægypto,
et attriti fuerint omnes auxiliatores ejus.
8 And they wil know that I am Yahweh when I set fire to Egypt and al its supports are shattered.
9 In die illa egredientur nuntii a facie mea in trieribus
ad conterendam Æthiopiæ confidentiam :
et erit pavor in eis in die Ægypti,
quia absque dubio veniet.
9 "That day, I shal send messengers by ship to terrify the carefree Cushites, and anguish wil overtakethem on the day of Egypt -- it is coming now!
10 Hæc dicit Dominus Deus :
Cessare faciam multitudinem Ægypti
in manu Nabuchodonosor regis Babylonis.
10 The Lord Yahweh says this: I shal destroy the huge population of Egypt at the hand ofNebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
11 Ipse et populus ejus cum eo, fortissimi gentium,
adducentur ad disperdendam terram :
et evaginabunt gladios suos super Ægyptum,
et implebunt terram interfectis.
11 He and his people, the most barbarous of nations, wil be brought to ravage the country. They wildraw the sword against Egypt and fil the country with corpses.
12 Et faciam alveos fluminum aridos,
et tradam terram in manus pessimorum :
et dissipabo terram et plenitudinem ejus
manu alienorum :
ego Dominus locutus sum.
12 I shal dry up the courses of the Nile and sel the country to the wicked. I shal lay the whole countrywaste and everything in it, at the hand of foreigners. I, Yahweh, have spoken.
13 Hæc dicit Dominus Deus :
Et disperdam simulacra,
et cessare faciam idola de Memphis :
et dux de terra Ægypti non erit amplius,
et dabo terrorem in terra Ægypti.
13 "The Lord Yahweh says this: I shall destroy the foul idols and take the false gods away from Noph.Egypt wil be left without a ruler. I shall spread fear through Egypt.
14 Et disperdam terram Phathures,
et dabo ignem in Taphnis,
et faciam judicia in Alexandria.
14 I shal lay Pathros waste, set Zoan on fire, inflict my punishments on No.
15 Et effundam indignationem meam super Pelusium, robur Ægypti,
et interficiam multitudinem Alexandriæ.
15 I shal vent my fury on Sin, the bastion of Egypt; I shall wipe out the throngs of No.
16 Et dabo ignem in Ægypto :
quasi parturiens dolebit Pelusium,
et Alexandria erit dissipata,
et in Memphis angustiæ quotidianæ.
16 I shal set fire to Egypt; Sin will be seized with convulsions; a breach wil be opened at No and thewaters flood out.
17 Juvenes Heliopoleos et Bubasti gladio cadent,
et ipsæ captivæ ducentur.
17 The young men of On and Pi-Beseth wil fal by the sword and the cities themselves go into captivity.
18 Et in Taphnis nigrescet dies,
cum contrivero ibi sceptra Ægypti,
et defecerit in ea superbia potentiæ ejus :
ipsam nubes operiet,
filiæ autem ejus in captivitatem ducentur.
18 At Tahpanhes day will turn to darkness when I shatter the sceptres of Egypt there, when the pride ofher strength ceases. A cloud will cover Egypt itself, and its daughters will go into captivity.
19 Et judicia faciam in Ægypto :
et scient quia ego Dominus.
19 Such wil be the punishments I inflict on Egypt. And they wil know that I am Yahweh." '
20 Et factum est in undecimo anno, in primo mense, in septima mensis : factum est verbum Domini ad me, dicens :20 In the eleventh year, on the seventh day of the first month, the word of Yahweh was addressed to meas fol ows,
21 Fili hominis, brachium Pharaonis regis Ægypti confregi,
et ecce non est obvolutum ut restitueretur ei sanitas,
ut ligaretur pannis, et fasciaretur linteolis,
ut recepto robore posset tenere gladium.
21 'Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; you can see that no one has dressedhis wound by applying remedies to it, by bandaging it and by dressing it, to make it strong enough to wield thesword.
22 Propterea hæc dicit Dominus Deus :
Ecce ego ad Pharaonem regem Ægypti,
et comminuam brachium ejus forte, sed confractum :
et dejiciam gladium de manu ejus,
22 This being so, the Lord Yahweh says this, "Look, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt; I shal breakhis arms, the sound one and the broken one, and make the sword drop from his hand.
23 et dispergam Ægyptum in gentibus,
et ventilabo eos in terris.
23 I shal scatter Egypt among the nations and disperse it among the countries.
24 Et confortabo brachia regis Babylonis,
daboque gladium meum in manu ejus,
et confringam brachia Pharaonis,
et gement gemitibus interfecti coram facie ejus.
24 I shal strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand. I shal breakPharaoh's arms and, confronted with his enemy, he wil groan like a dying man.
25 Et confortabo brachia regis Babylonis,
et brachia Pharaonis concident :
et scient quia ego Dominus,
cum dedero gladium meum in manu regis Babylonis,
et extenderit eum super terram Ægypti.
25 I shal strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharaoh wil fall. And they wilknow that I am Yahweh, when I put my sword into the hands of the king of Babylon and he wields it againstEgypt.
26 Et dispergam Ægyptum in nationes,
et ventilabo eos in terras :
et scient quia ego Dominus.
26 I shal scatter Egypt among the nations and disperse it among the countries; and they wil know that Iam Yahweh." '
