VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
Et cœpit Salomon ædificare domum Domini in Jerusalem in monte Moria, qui demonstratus fuerat David patri ejus, in loco quem paraverat David in area Ornan Jebusæi.1 Solomon then began building the house of Yahweh in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah where David hisfather had had a vision -- on the site which David had prepared -- on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Cœpit autem ædificare mense secundo, anno quarto regni sui.2 He began building it on the second day of the second month of the fourth year of his reign.
Et hæc sunt fundamenta quæ jecit Salomon, ut ædificaret domum Dei : longitudinis cubitos in mensura prima sexaginta, latitudinis cubitos viginti.3 These are the dimensions which Solomon fixed for the structure of the house of God: its length incubits, according to the old standard, was sixty cubits and its width twenty cubits;
Porticum vero ante frontem, quæ tendebatur in longum juxta mensuram latitudinis domus, cubitorum viginti : porro altitudo centum viginti cubitorum erat : et deauravit eam intrinsecus auro mundissimo.4 and the portico in front of the house was the ful width of the house, that is, twenty cubits, and its heightwas a hundred and twenty cubits; on the inside he overlaid it with pure gold.
Domum quoque majorem texit tabulis ligneis abiegnis, et laminas auri obrizi affixit per totum : sculpsitque in ea palmas, et quasi catenulas se invicem complectentes.5 The Great Hall he lined with juniper, which he overlaid with fine gold and ornamented with palm treesand festoons,
Stravit quoque pavimentum templi pretiosissimo marmore, decore multo.6 and he decorated the hall beautifully with precious stones and with gold from Parvaim,
Porro aurum erat probatissimum, de cujus laminis texit domum, et trabes ejus, et postes, et parietes, et ostia : et cælavit cherubim in parietibus.7 overlaying the hal , its beams and its thresholds, its walls and its doors, with gold and engraving thewal s with great winged creatures.
Fecit quoque domum Sancti sanctorum : longitudinem juxta latitudinem domus cubitorum viginti : et latitudinem similiter viginti cubitorum : et laminis aureis texit eam, quasi talentis sexcentis.8 He also made the Holy of Holies, the length of which corresponded to the width of the Great Hal , beingtwenty cubits, with a width of twenty cubits, and this he overlaid with fine gold weighing six hundred talents,
Sed et clavos fecit aureos, ita ut singuli clavi siclos quinquagenos appenderent : cœnacula quoque texit auro.9 while the weight of the gold nails was fifty shekels. He also overlaid the upper rooms with gold.
Fecit etiam in domo Sancti sanctorum cherubim duos, opere statuario : et texit eos auro.10 In the Holy of Holies he model ed two winged creatures of wrought metal work and overlaid them withgold.
Alæ cherubim viginti cubitis extendebantur, ita ut una ala haberet cubitos quinque et tangeret parietem domus : et altera quinque cubitos habens, alam tangeret alterius cherub.11 The total span of their wings was twenty cubits; one wing, being five cubits long, touched the wal ofthe house and the other wing, being five cubits long, touched the wing of the other winged creature;
Similiter cherub alterius ala, quinque habebat cubitos, et tangebat parietem : et ala ejus altera quinque cubitorum, alam cherub alterius contingebat.12 while one wing of the other, five cubits long, touched the other wall of the house and the other wing,five cubits long, touched the wing of the other winged creature.
Igitur alæ utriusque cherubim expansæ erant et extendebantur per cubitos viginti : ipsi autem stabant erectis pedibus, et facies eorum erant versæ ad exteriorem domum.13 The spread of these creatures' wings was twenty cubits. They stood in an upright position, with theirfaces towards the Hall.
Fecit quoque velum ex hyacintho, purpura, cocco, et bysso : et intexuit ei cherubim.14 He also made the Curtain of violet, scarlet, crimson and fine linen, working a design of wingedcreatures on it.
Ante fores etiam templi duas columnas, quæ triginta et quinque cubitos habebant altitudinis : porro capita earum, quinque cubitorum.15 In front of the Hal he made two pil ars thirty-five cubits high, and on the top of each a capitalmeasuring five cubits.
Necnon et quasi catenulas in oraculo, et superposuit eas capitibus columnarum : malogranata etiam centum, quæ catenulis interposuit.16 He made festoons, in the Debir, to go at the tops of the pil ars, and made a hundred pomegranates togo on the festoons.
Ipsas quoque columnas posuit in vestibulo templi, unam a dextris, et alteram a sinistris : eam quæ a dextris erat, vocavit Jachin : et quæ ad lævam, Booz.17 He erected the pil ars in front of the Temple, one on the right, the other on the left; the one on the righthe cal ed Jachin and the one on the left, Boaz.
