VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dixitque David : Hæc est domus Dei, et hoc altare in holocaustum Israëli.	1 David then said, 'This is to be the house of Yahweh God and this the altar of burnt offering for Israel.'
2 Et præcepit ut congregarentur omnes proselyti de terra Israël, et constituit ex eis latomos ad cædendos lapides et poliendos, ut ædificaretur domus Dei.	2 David then gave orders for al foreigners in Israel to be rounded up, and appointed quarrymen to cutdressed stone for building the house of God.
3 Ferrum quoque plurimum ad clavos januarum, et ad commissuras atque juncturas, præparavit David : et æris pondus innumerabile.	3 David also prepared great quantities of iron to make nails for the leaves of the doors and for theclamps, and more bronze than could be weighed,
4 Ligna quoque cedrina non poterant æstimari, quæ Sidonii et Tyrii deportaverant ad David.	4 as wel as innumerable cedar-wood logs, as the Sidonians and Tyrians had brought cedar logs toDavid in great quantities.
5 Et dixit David : Solomon filius meus puer parvulus est et delicatus : domus autem, quam ædificari volo Domino, talis esse debet ut in cunctis regionibus nominetur : præparabo ergo ei necessaria. Et ob hanc causam ante mortem suam omnes præparavit impensas.	5 David then said, 'My son Solomon is young and immature, and the house to be built for Yahweh mustbe superlatively fine, the most famous and splendid in any country. I shal now make the preparations for it.' Andso, before he died, David made ample preparations.
6 Vocavitque Salomonem filium suum, et præcepit ei ut ædificaret domum Domino Deo Israël.	6 He then summoned his son Solomon and commanded him to build a house for Yahweh, God of Israel.
7 Dixitque David ad Salomonem : Fili mi, voluntatis meæ fuit ut ædificarem domum nomini Domini Dei mei :	7 'My son,' David said to Solomon, 'my heart was set on building a house for the name of Yahweh myGod.
8 sed factus est sermo Domini ad me, dicens : Multum sanguinem effudisti, et plurima bella bellasti : non poteris ædificare domum nomini meo, tanto effuso sanguine coram me :	8 But the word of Yahweh came to me, "You have shed much blood and fought great wars; it is not foryou to build a house for my name, since you have shed much blood in my sight on earth.
9 filius qui nascetur tibi, erit vir quietissimus : faciam enim eum requiescere ab omnibus inimicis suis per circuitum : et ob hanc causam Pacificus vocabitur : et pacem et otium dabo in Israël cunctis diebus ejus.	9 Look, a son will be born to you. He will be a man of peace, and I shal give him peace from hisenemies on all sides; for Solomon is to be his name, and in his days I shal give Israel peace and tranquil ity.
10 Ipse ædificabit domum nomini meo, et ipse erit mihi in filium, et ego ero illi in patrem : firmaboque solium regni ejus super Israël in æternum.	10 He must build a house for my name; he wil be my son and I shall be his father, and I shall make thethrone of his kingdom secure over Israel for ever."
11 Nunc ergo fili mi, sit Dominus tecum, et prosperare, et ædifica domum Domino Deo tuo sicut locutus est de te.	11 Now, my son, may Yahweh be with you and give you success in building a house for Yahweh yourGod, as he has promised about you.
12 Det quoque Dominus prudentiam et sensum ut regere possis Israël, et custodire legem Domini Dei tui.	12 And especial y, may Yahweh give you discretion and discernment, may he give you his orders forIsrael, so that you may observe the Law of Yahweh your God.
13 Tunc enim proficere poteris, si custodieris mandata et judicia quæ præcepit Dominus Moysi ut doceret Israël. Confortare, et viriliter age : ne timeas, neque paveas.	13 Success wil be yours, only if you observe the statutes and ordinances which Yahweh gave Mosesas regulations for Israel. Be strong and stand fast, be fearless, be dauntless.
14 Ecce ego in paupertate mea præparavi impensas domus Domini, auri talenta centum millia, et argenti mille millia talentorum : æris vero et ferri non est pondus, vincitur enim numerus magnitudine ; ligna et lapides præparavi ad universa impendia.	14 Now, poor as I am, I have set aside for the house of Yahweh a hundred thousand talents of gold, amil ion talents of silver and more bronze and iron than can be weighed, there being so much. I have alsoprovided timber and stone, to which you may add more.
15 Habes quoque plurimos artifices, latomos, et cæmentarios, artificesque lignorum, et omnium artium ad faciendum opus prudentissimos,	15 Furthermore, you have a large number of workmen, quarrymen, masons, carpenters and al sorts ofcraftsmen for every kind of work,
16 in auro et argento et ære et ferro, cujus non est numerus. Surge igitur et fac, et erit Dominus tecum.	16 while your gold and silver, bronze and iron wil be beyond reckoning. Set to work, then, and mayYahweh be with you!'
17 Præcepit quoque David cunctis principibus Israël ut adjuvarent Salomonem filium suum :	17 David then commanded al the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon.
18 Cernitis, inquiens, quod Dominus Deus vester vobiscum sit, et dederit vobis requiem per circuitum, et tradiderit omnes inimicos vestros in manus vestras, et subjecta sit terra coram Domino, et coram populo ejus.	18 'Has not Yahweh your God been with you and given you peace on al sides, having put theinhabitants of the country into my power and the country now having been subdued for Yahweh and his people?
19 Præbete igitur corda vestra et animas vestras, ut quæratis Dominum Deum vestrum : et consurgite, et ædificate sanctuarium Domino Deo, ut introducatur arca fœderis Domini, et vasa Domino consecrata, in domum quæ ædificatur nomini Domini.	19 So now devote heart and soul to searching for Yahweh your God. Set to and build the sanctuary ofYahweh God, so that you can bring the ark of the covenant of Yahweh and the holy vessels of God into thehouse built for the name of Yahweh.'
