VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Misit quoque Hiram rex Tyri nuntios ad David, et ligna cedrina, et artifices parietum, lignorumque, ut ædificarent ei domum.	1 Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, with cedar wood, stone-cutters and carpenters, to build hima palace.
2 Cognovitque David quod confirmasset eum Dominus in regem super Israël, et sublevatum esset regnum suum super populum ejus Israël.	2 David then knew that Yahweh had confirmed him as king of Israel and, for the sake of his people, hadextended his sovereignty.
3 Accepit quoque David alias uxores in Jerusalem, genuitque filios et filias.	3 David took more wives in Jerusalem and fathered more sons and daughters.
4 Et hæc nomina eorum, qui nati sunt ei in Jerusalem : Samua, et Sobab, Nathan, et Salomon,	4 These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,
5 Jebahar, et Elisua, et Eliphalet,	5 Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,
6 Noga quoque, et Napheg, et Japhia,	6 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,
7 Elisama, et Baaliada, et Eliphalet.	7 Elishama, Beeliada, Eliphelet.
8 Audientes autem Philisthiim eo quod unctus esset David regem super universum Israël, ascenderunt omnes ut quærerent eum : quod cum audisset David, egressus est obviam eis.	8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king of al Israel, they al invaded to seekhim out. On hearing this, David marched out towards them.
9 Porro Philisthiim venientes, diffusi sunt in valle Raphaim.	9 When the Philistines arrived, they deployed in the Val ey of the Rephaim.
10 Consuluitque David Dominum, dicens : Si ascendam ad Philisthæos, et si trades eos in manu mea ? Et dixit ei Dominus : Ascende, et tradam eos in manu tua.	10 David consulted God and asked, 'Shall I attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my power?'Yahweh replied to him, 'Attack! I shal deliver them into your power.'
11 Cumque illi ascendissent in Baalpharasim, percussit eos ibi David, et dixit : Divisit Deus inimicos meos per manum meam, sicut dividuntur aquæ : et idcirco vocatum est nomen illius loci Baalpharasim.	11 Accordingly, they went up to Baal-Perazim and there David defeated them. David said, 'Through meGod has made a breach in my enemies, as though they had been breached by a flood.' This is why the placewas given the name Baal-Perazim.
12 Dereliqueruntque ibi deos suos, quos David jussit exuri.	12 They had left their gods behind there, and David ordered them to be burnt.
13 Alia etiam vice Philisthiim irruerunt, et diffusi sunt in valle.	13 Again the Philistines deployed in the valley.
14 Consuluitque rursum David Deum, et dixit ei Deus : Non ascendas post eos : recede ab eis, et venies contra illos ex adverso pyrorum.	14 David again consulted God, and God replied, 'Do not attack them from the front; go round andengage them opposite the balsam trees.
15 Cumque audieris sonitum gradientis in cacumine pyrorum, tunc egredieris ad bellum : egressus est enim Deus ante te, ut percutiat castra Philisthiim.	15 When you hear the sound of footsteps in the tops of the balsam trees, launch your attack, for that willbe God going out ahead of you to defeat the Philistine army.'
16 Fecit ergo David sicut præceperat ei Deus, et percussit castra Philisthinorum, de Gabaon usque Gazera.	16 David did as God had ordered, and they beat the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.
17 Divulgatumque est nomen David in universis regionibus, et Dominus dedit pavorem ejus super omnes gentes.	17 David's fame then spread to every country, and Yahweh made him feared by every nation.
