LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Questo vi ho detto, perché non rimaniate scandalizzati.	1 I have told you al this so that you may not fal away.
2 Vi cacceranno fuori dalle sinagoghe; viene anzi l'ora in cui chi vi ucciderà penserà di rendere un culto a Dio.	2 They wil expel you from the synagogues, and indeed the time is coming when anyone who kills youwil think he is doing a holy service to God.
3 Questo faranno perché non hanno conosciuto né il Padre né me.	3 They wil do these things because they have never known either the Father or me.
4 Ma questo vi ho detto affinché, quando verrà la loro ora, ricordiate che io ve l'avevo detto". "Non vi ho detto questo fin dall'inizio, perché ero con voi.	4 But I have told you all this, so that when the time for it comes you may remember that I told you. I didnot tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you;
5 Ora invece vado a Colui che mi ha mandato e nessuno di voi mi domanda: "Dove vai?".	5 but now I am going to the one who sent me. Not one of you asks, 'Where are you going?'
6 Anzi, poiché vi ho detto questo, la tristezza ha riempito il vostro cuore.	6 Yet you are sad at heart because I have told you this.
7 Ma io vi dico la verità: è meglio per voi che io parta; perché, se non parto, il Paraclito non verrà a voi. Se invece me ne vado, lo manderò a voi.	7 Stil , I am telling you the truth: it is for your own good that I am going, because unless I go, theParaclete wil not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
8 E quando egli verrà, confuterà il mondo in fatto di peccato, di giustizia e di giudizio.	8 And when he comes, he wil show the world how wrong it was, about sin, and about who was in theright, and about judgement:
9 In fatto di peccato: perché non credono in me;	9 about sin: in that they refuse to believe in me;
10 in fatto di giustizia: perché me ne vado al Padre e voi non mi vedrete più;	10 about who was in the right: in that I am going to the Father and you will see me no more;
11 in fatto di giudizio: perché il principe di questo mondo è già giudicato.	11 about judgement: in that the prince of this world is already condemned.
12 Ancora molte cose ho da dirvi, ma non le potete portare per ora.	12 I still have many things to say to you but they would be too much for you to bear now.
13 Quando verrà lo Spirito di verità, egli vi guiderà in tutta la verità. Non parlerà infatti da se stesso, ma quanto sentirà dirà e vi annuncerà le cose venture.	13 However, when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth, since he wil not bespeaking of his own accord, but wil say only what he has been told; and he wil reveal to you the things to come.
14 Egli mi glorificherà, perché prenderà da me e ve lo annuncerà.	14 He wil glorify me, since al he reveals to you wil be taken from what is mine.
15 Tutto quanto ha il Padre è mio. Per questo vi ho detto che prenderà da me e lo annuncerà a voi".	15 Everything the Father has is mine; that is why I said: all he reveals to you wil be taken from what ismine.
16 "Un poco e non mi vedrete più; e poi un poco ancora, e mi vedrete".	16 In a short time you will no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again.
17 Allora alcuni dei suoi discepoli dissero fra loro: "Che è mai questo che ci dice: "Un poco e non mi vedrete e poi un poco ancora e mi vedrete"? e: "Io me ne vado al Padre"?".	17 Then some of his disciples said to one another, 'What does he mean, "In a short time you wil nolonger see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again," and, "I am going to the Father"?
18 Dicevano dunque: "Che è mai questo "un poco" di cui parla? Non comprendiamo che cosa voglia dire".	18 What is this "short time"? We don't know what he means.'
19 Gesù conobbe che volevano interrogarlo e disse loro: "V'interrogate fra di voi riguardo a ciò che vi ho detto: "Un poco e non mi vedrete e poi ancora un poco e mi vedrete"?	19 Jesus knew that they wanted to question him, so he said, 'You are asking one another what I meantby saying, "In a short time you wil no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again."
20 In verità, in verità vi dico: voi piangerete e gemerete, mentre il mondo si rallegrerà. Voi vi rattristerete, ma la vostra tristezza si cambierà in gioia.	20 'In al truth I tell you, you wil be weeping and wailing while the world wil rejoice; you will be sorrowful,but your sorrow wil turn to joy.
21 La donna, quando partorisce, ha tristezza, perché è venuta la sua ora. Ma quando ha partorito il bambino non si ricorda più della sofferenza per la gioia che è nato un uomo al mondo.	21 A woman in childbirth suffers, because her time has come; but when she has given birth to the childshe forgets the suffering in her joy that a human being has been born into the world.
22 Anche voi ora avete tristezza, ma vi vedrò di nuovo, il vostro cuore si rallegrerà e la vostra gioia nessuno ve la potrà rapire.	22 So it is with you: you are sad now, but I shal see you again, and your hearts wil be ful of joy, andthat joy no one shal take from you.
23 In quel giorno non mi farete più alcuna domanda. In verità, in verità vi dico: qualsiasi cosa chiediate al Padre nel nome mio, nel mio nome ve la darà.	23 When that day comes, you will not ask me any questions. In all truth I tel you, anything you ask fromthe Father he wil grant in my name.
24 Finora non avete chiesto nulla nel mio nome. Chiedete e riceverete, in modo che la vostra gioia sia completa".	24 Until now you have not asked anything in my name. Ask and you wil receive, and so your joy wil becomplete.
25 "Questo vi ho detto in similitudini. Viene l'ora in cui non vi parlerò più in similitudini, ma vi annuncerò apertamente quanto riguarda il Padre mio.	25 I have been tel ing you these things in veiled language. The hour is coming when I shall no longerspeak to you in veiled language but tell you about the Father in plain words.
26 In quel giorno chiederete nel mio nome e non vi dico che io pregherò il Padre per voi:	26 When that day comes you wil ask in my name; and I do not say that I shal pray to the Father for you,
27 il Padre stesso infatti vi ama, poiché voi mi avete amato e avete creduto che sono uscito da Dio.	27 because the Father himself loves you for loving me, and believing that I came from God.
28 Sono uscito dal Padre e sono venuto nel mondo. Ora lascio il mondo e vado al Padre".	28 I came from the Father and have come into the world and now I am leaving the world to go to theFather.'
29 Dicono i suoi discepoli: "Ecco che ora parli apertamente e non usi nessuna figura.	29 His disciples said, 'Now you are speaking plainly and not using veiled language.
30 Ora sappiamo che conosci tutto e non hai bisogno che ti si interroghi. Per questo crediamo che sei uscito da Dio".	30 Now we see that you know everything and need not wait for questions to be put into words; becauseof this we believe that you came from God.'
31 Rispose loro Gesù: "Voi adesso credete?	31 Jesus answered them: Do you believe at last?
32 Ecco che viene l'ora, ed è venuta, che sarete dispersi ciascuno per conto suo e mi lascerete solo. Ma io non sono solo, perché il Padre è con me.	32 Listen; the time wil come -- indeed it has come already -- when you are going to be scattered, eachgoing his own way and leaving me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33 Questo vi ho detto perché abbiate pace in me. In questo mondo avete da soffrire; ma abbiate coraggio: io ho vinto il mondo".	33 I have told you al this so that you may find peace in me. In the world you wil have hardship, but becourageous: I have conquered the world.
