Siracide 35

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 L'osservanza della legge val più dei sacrifici, la pratica dei comandamenti è sacrificio di comunione.	1 One who keeps the Law multiplies offerings; one who fol ows the commandments offers communionsacrifices.
2 Chi ricambia un favore è come chi fa offerta di farina, e chi dà l'elemosina è come chi fa un sacrificio di ringraziamento.	2 Proof of gratitude is an offering of fine flour, almsgiving a sacrifice of praise.
3 Piace al Signore lo star lontani dal male, astenersi dall'ingiustizia è un'espiazione.	3 To abandon wickedness is what pleases the Lord, to give up wrong-doing is an expiatory sacrifice.
4 Non comparire a mani vuote davanti al Signore, tutti questi sacrifici sono comandati.	4 Do not appear empty-handed in the Lord's presence; for all these things are due under thecommandment.
5 Il sacrificio del giusto ingrassa l'altare e il suo profumo giunge innanzi all'Altissimo.	5 The offering of the upright graces the altar, and its savour rises before the Most High.
6 Il sacrificio del giusto è gradito, il suo ricordo non sarà dimenticato.	6 The sacrifice of the upright is acceptable, its memorial wil not be forgotten.
7 Onora il Signore con occhio contento e non lesinargli le primizie delle tue mani.	7 Honour the Lord with generosity, do not stint the first-fruits you bring.
8 In ogni offerta abbi un volto lieto, consacra la decima con gioia.	8 Add a smiling face to al your gifts, and be cheerful as you dedicate your tithes.
9 Da' all'Altissimo come lui ha dato a te, con occhio contento, quanto si trova nelle tue mani.	9 Give to the Most High as he has given to you, as generously as your means can afford;
10 Perché il Signore è uno che ricambia, ti ridarà sette volte tanto.	10 for the Lord is a good rewarder, he wil reward you seven times over.
11 Non cercare di corromperlo con doni, non accetterà, e non confidare in un sacrificio ingiusto,	11 Do not try to bribe him with presents, he wil not accept them, do not put your faith in wronglymotivated sacrifices;
12 perché il Signore è un vero giudice che non s'inganna con la gloria apparente.	12 for the Lord is a judge who is utterly impartial.
13 Non fa favori a spese del povero, né esaudisce la preghiera se è maltrattato.	13 He never shows partiality to the detriment of the poor, he listens to the plea of the injured party.
14 Non è insensibile alla supplica dell'orfano e della vedova che versa il suo lamento.	14 He does not ignore the orphan's supplication, nor the widow's as she pours out her complaint.
15 Se le lacrime della vedova scendono sulle guance, il suo grido non scenderà contro chi le fa versare?	15 Do the widow's tears not run down her cheeks, as she accuses the man who is the cause of them?
16 Chi serve Dio come lui vuole, sarà accetto, la sua preghiera giungerà fino alle nubi.	16 Whoever wholeheartedly serves God will be accepted, his petitions wil carry to the clouds.
17 La preghiera dell'umile attraversa le nubi: finché essa non approda, egli non si consola,	17 The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds: and until it does, he is not to be consoled,
18 finché l'Altissimo non interviene, essa non si ferma, per riconoscere ed eseguire il diritto dei giusti.	18 nor wil he desist until the Most High takes notice of him, acquits the upright and delivers judgement.
19 Il Signore non farà indugio, non avrà pazienza con loro,	19 And the Lord will not be slow, nor wil he be dilatory on their behalf,
20 finché avrà spezzato i fianchi dei violenti e fatta vendetta contro le nazioni,	20 until he has crushed the loins of the merciless and exacted vengeance on the nations,
21 finché avrà sterminato la massa degli insolenti e spezzato gli scettri degli ingiusti,	21 until he has eliminated the hordes of the arrogant and broken the sceptres of the wicked,
22 finché avrà reso a ciascuno secondo le sue opere e a tutti secondo le loro intenzioni,	22 until he has repaid al people as their deeds deserve and human actions as their intentions merit,
23 finché renderà giustizia al suo popolo per consolarlo nella sua misericordia.	23 until he has judged the case of his people and made them rejoice in his mercy.
24 La sua misericordia è propizia nella tribolazione come la nube della pioggia nella siccità.	24 Mercy is welcome in time of trouble, like rain clouds in time of drought.
