Proverbi 6

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Figlio mio, se ti sei fatto garante per il tuo prossimo, per uno straniero hai stretto la tua mano;	1 My child, if you have gone surety for your neighbour, if you have guaranteed the bond of a stranger,
2 ti sei fatto irretire dalla parola delle tue labbra, ti sei lasciato catturare dai detti della tua bocca;	2 if you have committed yourself with your lips, if through words of yours you have been entrapped,
3 fa' così, figlio mio, e sarai libero, poiché sei caduto nella mano del tuo prossimo: va', inginòcchiati e importuna i tuoi vicini.	3 do this, my child, to extricate yourself -- since you have put yourself in the power of your neighbour: go,humble yourself, plead with your neighbour,
4 Non concedere sonno ai tuoi occhi, né assopimento alle tue palpebre.	4 give your eyes no sleep, your eyelids no rest,
5 Lìberati, come gazzella, dalla sua mano, come uccello dalla mano del cacciatore.	5 break free like a gazel e from the trap, like a bird from the fowler's clutches.
6 Va' dalla formica, poltrone, guarda i suoi costumi e sii saggio.	6 Idler, go to the ant; ponder her ways and grow wise:

14 cose perverse rimugina dentro di sé, non fa che causare risse.	14 Trickery in his heart, always scheming evil, he sows dissension.
15 Ma verrà la sua rovina all'improvviso, sarà annientato subito, senza alcun rimedio.	15 Disaster wil overtake him sharply for this, suddenly, irretrievably, he wil be broken.
16 Sei cose odia il Signore, sette ne detesta:	16 There are six things that Yahweh hates, seven that he abhors:
17 occhi alteri, lingua bugiarda, mani che versano sangue innocente;	17 a haughty look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
18 cuore che ordisce trame malvagie, piedi solleciti a correre al male;	18 a heart that weaves wicked plots, feet that hurry to do evil,
19 teste bugiardo che sparge menzogne, chi causa risse in mezzo ai fratelli.	19 a false witness who lies with every breath, and one who sows dissension among brothers.
20 Osserva, figlio mio, il precetto di tuo padre, non rifiutare l'insegnamento di tua madre.	20 Keep your father's precept, my child, do not spurn your mother's teaching.
21 Appendili sul tuo cuore per sempre, fissali intorno al tuo collo.	21 Bind them ever to your heart, tie them round your neck.
22 Quando tu ti muovi, essa ti conduce, quando riposi essa ti custodisce e quando tu ti svegli ti saluta.	22 While you are active, they will guide you, when you fal asleep, they wil watch over you, when youwake up, they will converse with you.
23 Il precetto è veramente una lampada, è luce l'insegnamento e via della vita il rimprovero che corregge,	23 For the precept is a lamp, the teaching is a light; correction and discipline are the way to life,
24 per proteggerti dalla donna malvagia, dalla lingua lusinghiera della donna altrui.	24 preserving you from the woman of bad character, from the wheedling talk of a woman who belongs toanother.
25 Non bramare la sua bellezza nel tuo cuore e che ella non ti prenda con le sue palpebre.	25 Do not covet her beauty in your heart or let her captivate you with the play of her eyes;
26 Ché per una prostituta c'è un pezzo di pane, ma la sposata compra una vita preziosa.	26 a prostitute can be bought for a hunk of bread, but a married woman aims to snare a precious life.
27 Può portare un uomo il fuoco nel suo seno, senza che le sue vesti si bruciacchino?	27 Can a man carry fire inside his shirt without setting his clothes alight?
28 Se uno cammina su carboni accesi, i suoi piedi non si scotteranno?	28 Can you walk on red-hot coals without burning your feet?
29 Così chi va dall'altrui donna: non rimarrà impunito chi la tocca.	29 Just so, the man who makes love to his neighbour's wife: no one who touches her wil get offunpunished.
30 Non si disprezza il ladro perché ruba per riempire il suo stomaco affamato;	30 People attach but little blame to a thief who steals only to satisfy his hunger;
31 ma se è scoperto, ripaga settanta volte; dovrà dare tutti i beni della sua casa.	31 yet even he, if caught, wil have to repay sevenfold and hand over all his family resources.
32 Chi commette adulterio con una donna è povero di spirito: opera la rovina di se stesso chi fa tal cosa.	32 But the adulterer has no sense; he works his own destruction.
33 Piaga e disprezzo egli incontrerà, l'onta sua non si cancellerà.	33 All he wil get is blows and contempt, and dishonour never to be blotted out.
34 Perché accende la gelosia del marito, che sarà senza pietà il dì della vendetta.	34 For jealousy inflames the husband who wil show no mercy when the day comes for revenge;
