Deuteronomio 10

1 - Allora il Signore mi disse: - Tàgliati due tavole di pietra come eran le prime, e sali a me sul monte; farai un'arca di legno,	1 "At that time the LORD said to me, 'Cut two tablets of stone like the former; then come up the mountain to me. Also make an ark of wood.
2 ed io scriverò sulle tavole i comandamenti che erano su quelle da te spezzate, e le riporrai nell'arca. -	2 I will write upon the tablets the commandments that were on the former tablets that you broke, and you shall place them in the ark.'
3 Feci pertanto un'arca di legno di setim, e dopo aver tagliato due tavole di pietra a modo delle prime, salii il monte portandole nelle mie mani.	3 So I made an ark of acacia wood, and cut two tablets of stone like the former, and went up the mountain carrying the two tablets.
4 Ed il Signore, come aveva scritto prima, così scrisse su quelle tavole i dieci comandamenti che v'aveva banditi di sul monte, di mezzo al fuoco, quando il popolo stava adunato, e dette a me quelle tavole.	4 The LORD then wrote on them, as he had written before, the ten commandments which he spoke to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. After the LORD had given them to me,
5 Io tornato dal monte, e disceso, le deposi nell'arca da me fatta, dove sono anc'oggi, come mi aveva comandato il Signore.	5 I turned and came down the mountain, and placed the tablets in the ark I had made. There they have remained, in keeping with the command the LORD gave me.
6 I figli d'Israele allora trasportarono il campo da Berot de' figliuoli di Iacan in Mosera. Ivi Aronne morì e fu sepolto, ed in luogo suo servì nel sacerdozio Eleazaro suo figliuolo.	6 (The Israelites set out from Beeroth Bene-jaakan for Moserah, where Aaron died and was buried, his son Eleazar succeeding him in the priestly office.
7 Di lì vennero in Gadgad, da dove poi ripartiti s'accamparono in Ietebata, terra [ricca] d'acque e torrenti.	7 From there they set out for Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah for Jotbathah, a region where there is water in the wadies.)
8 Allora [il Signore] si scelse la tribù di Levi, che portasse l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore, stesse dinanzi a lui nel servizio [divino], e nel nome di lui benedicesse, [come ha fatto] sino ad oggi.	8 "At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to be in attendance before the LORD and minister to him, and to give blessings in his name, as they have done to this day.
9 Per questo, [la tribù di] Levi non ebbe parte in possessione fra' suoi fratelli, perchè il Signore stesso è la sua possessione, come il Signore Dio tuo le ha promesso.	9 For this reason, Levi has no share in the heritage with his brothers; the LORD himself is his heritage, as the LORD, your God, has told him.
10 Io dunque stetti come altra volta sul monte per quaranta dì e notti, ed il Signore m'esaudì anche questa volta, e non volle distruggerti.	10 "After I had spent these other forty days and forty nights on the mountain, and the LORD had once again heard me and decided not to destroy you,
11 E mi disse: - Va', e cammina innanzi al popolo, acciò entri al possesso di quella terra che io ho giurato ai loro padri di dare. -	11 he said to me, 'Go now and set out at the head of your people, that they may enter in and occupy the land which I swore to their fathers I would give them.'
12 Ed ora, Israele, che cosa chiede da te il Signore Dio tuo, se non che tu tema il Signore Dio tuo, e tu cammini per le sue vie, e tu lo ami, e tu serva il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima,	12 "And now, Israel, what does the LORD, your God, ask of you but to fear the LORD, your God, and follow his ways exactly, to love and serve the LORD, your God, with all your heart and all your soul,
13 e tu osservi i comandamenti del Signore e le sue prescrizioni, quali io oggi ti dò, affinchè bene ti venga?	13 to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD which I enjoin on you today for your own good?
14 Ecco, del Signore Dio tuo è il cielo, il cielo dei cieli, la terra, e tutto quello ch'è in essa;	14 Think! The heavens, even the highest heavens, belong to the LORD, your God, as well as the earth and everything on it.
15 eppure il Signore s'è stretto ai tuoi padri, e li ha amati, ed ha eletta la loro discendenza, che siete voi, di fra tutte le genti, come oggi si vede col fatto.	15 Yet in his love for your fathers the LORD was so attached to them as to choose you, their descendants, in preference to all other peoples, as indeed he has now done.
16 Circoncidete dunque il vostro cuore, e non più indurite la vostra testa;	16 Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and be no longer stiff-necked.
17 perchè il Signore Dio vostro egli è il Dio degl'iddii ed il Signore de' signori; Dio grande potente e terribile, che non guarda alla persona nè ai doni,	17 For the LORD, your God, is the God of gods, the LORD of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who has no favorites, accepts no bribes;
18 rende giustizia al pupillo ed alla vedova, ama il forestiero, e gli dà il vitto e il vestito.	18 who executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and befriends the alien, feeding and clothing him.
19 Anche voi dunque amate i forestieri, perchè foste voi pure forestieri nella terra d'Egitto.	19 So you too must befriend the alien, for you were once aliens yourselves in the land of Egypt.
20 Temerai il Signore Dio tuo, ed a lui solo servirai; a lui ti stringerai, e nel nome di lui giurerai.	20 The LORD, your God, shall you fear, and him shall you serve; hold fast to him and swear by his name.
21 È egli la tua gloria e il tuo Dio, che fece per te quelle cose grandi e terribili che i tuoi occhi han vedute.	21 He is your glory, he, your God, who has done for you those great and terrible things which your own eyes have seen.
22 Quando i padri tuoi vennero in Egitto, erano settanta persone; ed ecco ora il Signore Dio tuo t'ha moltiplicato in numero come le stelle del cielo.	22 Your ancestors went down to Egypt seventy strong, and now the LORD, your God, has made you as numerous as the stars of the sky.
