Therefore, if you have risen together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.1 Since you have been raised up to be with Christ, you must look for the things that are above, whereChrist is, sitting at God's right hand.
Consider the things that are above, not the things that are upon the earth.2 Let your thoughts be on things above, not on the things that are on the earth,
For you have died, and so your life is hidden with Christ in God.3 because you have died, and now the life you have is hidden with Christ in God.
When Christ, your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.4 But when Christ is revealed -- and he is your life-you, too, wil be revealed with him in glory.
Therefore, mortify your body, while it is upon the earth. For because of fornication, impurity, lust, evil desires, and avarice, which are a kind of service to idols,5 That is why you must kill everything in you that is earthly: sexual vice, impurity, uncontrol ed passion,evil desires and especially greed, which is the same thing as worshipping a false god;
the wrath of God has overwhelmed the sons of unbelief.6 it is precisely these things which draw God's retribution upon those who resist.
You, too, walked in these things, in times past, when you were living among them.7 And these things made up your way of life when you were living among such people,
But now you must set aside all these things: anger, indignation, malice, blasphemy, and indecent speech from your mouth.8 but now you also must give up al these things: human anger, hot temper, malice, abusive language anddirty talk;
Do not lie to one another. Strip yourselves of the old man, with his deeds,9 and do not lie to each other. You have stripped off your old behaviour with your old self,
and clothe yourself with the new man, who has been renewed by knowledge, in accord with the image of the One who created him,10 and you have put on a new self which will progress towards true knowledge the more it is renewed inthe image of its Creator;
where there is neither Gentile nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian nor Scythian, servant nor free. Instead, Christ is everything, in everyone.11 and in that image there is no room for distinction between Greek and Jew, between the circumcisedand uncircumcised, or between barbarian and Scythian, slave and free. There is only Christ: he is everythingand he is in everything.
Therefore, clothe yourselves like the elect of God: holy and beloved, with hearts of mercy, kindness, humility, modesty, and patience.12 As the chosen of God, then, the holy people whom he loves, you are to be clothed in heartfeltcompassion, in generosity and humility, gentleness and patience.
Support one another, and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive one another. For just as the Lord has forgiven you, so also must you do.13 Bear with one another; forgive each other if one of you has a complaint against another. The Lord hasforgiven you; now you must do the same.
And above all these things have charity, which is the bond of perfection.14 Over al these clothes, put on love, the perfect bond.
And let the peace of Christ lift up your hearts. For in this peace, you have been called, as one body. And be thankful.15 And may the peace of Christ reign in your hearts, because it is for this that you were cal ed together inone body. Always be thankful.
Let the word of Christ live in you in abundance, with all wisdom, teaching and correcting one another, with psalms, hymns, and spiritual canticles, singing to God with the grace in your hearts.16 Let the Word of Christ, in al its richness, find a home with you. Teach each other, and advise eachother, in al wisdom. With gratitude in your hearts sing psalms and hymns and inspired songs to God;
Let everything whatsoever that you do, whether in word or in deed, be done all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God the Father through him.17 and whatever you say or do, let it be in the name of the Lord Jesus, in thanksgiving to God the Fatherthrough him.
Wives, be submissive to your husbands, as is proper in the Lord.18 Wives, be subject to your husbands, as you should in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives, and do not be bitter toward them.19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be sharp with them.
Children, obey your parents in all things. For this is well-pleasing to the Lord.20 Children, be obedient to your parents always, because that is what will please the Lord.
Fathers, do not provoke your children to indignation, lest they lose heart.21 Parents, do not irritate your children or they will lose heart.
Servants, obey, in all things, your lords according to the flesh, not serving only when seen, as if to please men, but serving in simplicity of heart, fearing God.22 Slaves, be obedient in every way to the people who, according to human reckoning, are your masters;not only when you are under their eye, as if you had only to please human beings, but wholeheartedly, out ofrespect for the Master.
Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as for the Lord, and not for men.23 Whatever your work is, put your heart into it as done for the Lord and not for human beings,
For you know that you will receive from the Lord the repayment of an inheritance. Serve Christ the Lord.24 knowing that the Lord wil repay you by making you his heirs. It is Christ the Lord that you are serving.
For whoever causes injury shall be repaid for what he has wrongfully done. And there no favoritism with God.25 Anyone who does wrong wil be repaid in kind. For there is no favouritism.
