1 After this, the fol owing events took place. Absalom son of David had a beautiful sister whose namewas Tamar; Amnon son of David fel in love with her.	1 Or dopo queste cose avvenne che Amnon figlio di David s'innamorasse di una sorella di Assalonne, figlio di David, chiamata Tamar, che era molto bella.
2 Amnon was so obsessed with his sister Tamar that it made him il , since she was a virgin and Amnonthought it impossible to do anything to her.	2 Egli l'amò sì perdutamente che per amor di lei s'ammalò, perchè, essendo essa vergine, gli parve difficile di poter far del male con lei.
3 But Amnon had a friend called Jonadab son of Shimeah, David's brother, and Jonadab was a veryshrewd man.	3 Or Amnon aveva un amico chiamato Gionadab, figlio di Semmaa fratello di David, uomo molto accorto.
4 'Son of the king,' he said, 'tel me why, morning after morning, you look so worn? Won't you tel me?'Amnon replied, 'I am in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.'	4 E questi gli disse: « Perchè insecchisci ogni giorno di più, o figlio del re? Perchè non me lo dici? » Amnon gli disse: « Amo Tamar sorella di mio fratello Assalonne ».
5 Then Jonadab said, 'Take to your bed, pretend to be ill and, when your father comes to visit you, say,"Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat; let her prepare the food where I can see. Whatshe gives me I shal eat." '	5 Gionadab gli disse: « Mettiti a letto e fai da malato: quando poi tuo padre verrà a visitarti, digli: Ti prego di far venire mia sorella Tamar a darmi da mangiare, a farmi un cibo ch'io possa mangiare dalla sua mano ».
6 So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill. The king then came to visit him and Amnon said to theking, 'Please let my sister Tamar come and make a cake or two where I can watch. What she gives me, I shaleat.'	6 Amnon adunque si mise a letto e cominciò a fare il malato, e quando il re venne a visitarlo, Amnon disse al re: « Ti prego di far venire mia sorella Tamar a fare in mia presenza due frittelle che io mangerei dalla sua mano ».
7 David then sent word to Tamar at the palace, 'Go to your brother Amnon's house and prepare somefood for him.'	7 Allora David mandò a casa a dire a Tamar: « Va in casa di tuo fratello Amnon e fagli qualche cosa da mangiare ».
8 Tamar went to the house of her brother Amnon who was lying there in bed. She took dough andkneaded it, and she made some cakes while he watched, and baked the cakes.	8 Andata a casa di suo fratello Amnon, che giaceva in letto, Tamar prese della farina, la stemperò, l'intrise, e poi fece cuocere le frittelle in presenza di lui.
9 She then took the pan and dished them up in front of him, but he refused to eat. Amnon said, 'Leteveryone leave me!' So everyone withdrew.	9 Preso quel che aveva fatto cuocere, lo versò e glielo pose davanti; ma egli non voleva mangiare. Amnon disse: « Mandate via di qui tutti ». Quando tutti furon mandati via,
10 Amnon then said to Tamar, 'Bring the food to the inner room, so that I can eat what you give me.' SoTamar took the cakes which she had made and brought them to her brother Amnon in the inner room.	10 Amnon disse a Tamar: « Porta il cibo nella camera, chè io mangi dalla tua mano ». E Tamar, prese le frittelle che aveva fatte, le portò ad Amnon suo fratello nella camera.
11 And as she was offering the food to him, he caught hold of her and said, 'Come to bed with me,sister!'	11 Ma appena essa gli ebbe presentato il cibo, egli la prese e disse: « Vieni, riposa con me, sorella mia ».
12 She replied, 'No, brother! Do not force me! This is no way to behave in Israel. Do not do anything sodisgraceful!	12 Essa gli rispose: « No, fratello mio, non mi far violenza: questo non è permesso in Israele: non far questa pazzia:
13 Wherever should I go? I should be marked with this shame, while you would become disgraced inIsrael. Why not go and speak to the king? He wil not refuse to give me to you.'	13 io non potrò soffrire il mio obbrobrio, e tu sarai come un insensato in Israele. Parlane piuttosto al re, che a te non mi negherà ».
14 But he would not listen to her; he overpowered her and raped her.	14 Ma egli non volle piegarsi alle sue preghiere e, essendo più forte, le fece violenza e si giacque con lei.
15 Amnon was then seized with extreme hatred for her; the hatred he now felt for her was greater thanhis earlier love. 'Get up and go!' he said.	15 Ma subito Amnon ebbe per lei una grande avversione, tale che l'odio nato contro di lei era maggiore dell'affetto prima avuto per essa. Amnon le disse: « Levati e vattene ».
16 She said, 'No, brother! To send me away would be worse than the other wrong you have done me!'But he would not listen to her.	16 Ma essa gli rispose: « Il male che tu mi fai ora cacciandomi è maggiore di quello che m'hai già fatto ». Ma egli non la stette a sentire,
17 He cal ed his personal servant. 'Rid me of this woman!' he said. 'Throw her out and bolt the doorbehind her!'	17 anzi, chiamato il servo che l'assisteva, gli disse: « Cacciala via, lungi da me, e chiudile dietro la porta ».
18 (She was wearing a magnificent dress, for this was what the king's unmarried daughters wore indays gone by.) So the servant put her out and bolted the door behind her.	18 Essa indossava una tunica talare, veste usata dalle figlie del re ancor vergini. Il servo adunque la spinse fuori, e le chiuse dietro la porta.
19 Tamar put dust on her head, tore the magnificent dress which she was wearing, laid her hand on herhead, and went away, crying aloud as she went.	19 Ed essa, sparsa di cenere la sua testa, stracciata la tunica talare, incrociate le mani sul capo, se ne andava gridando.
20 Her brother Absalom said to her, 'Has Amnon your brother been with you? Sister, be quiet; he is yourbrother; do not take the matter to heart!' Tamar, however, went back to her brother Absalom's houseinconsolable.	20 Assalonne suo fratello le disse: « Forse Amnon tuo fratello è stato con te? Per ora taci, sorella mia; egli è tuo fratello, e per questo non devi affliggerti ». Tamar se ne stette desolata in casa di Assalonne suo fratello.
21 When King David heard the whole story, he was very angry; but he had no wish to harm his sonAmnon, whom he loved because he was his first-born.	21 Quando David seppe queste cose, ne restò grandemente afflitto; ma non volle disgustare Amnon suo figlio, perchè egli era il suo primogenito.
22 Absalom, however, would not so much as speak to Amnon, since he hated Amnon for having rapedhis sister Tamar.	22 Assalonne non fece più parola, nè buona nè cattiva, con Amnon, perchè Assalonne odiava Amnon a causa dell'oltraggio fatto a Tamar sua sorella.
23 Two years later, when Absalom had the sheep-shearers at Baal-Hazor, which is near Ephraim, heinvited al the king's sons.	23 Or dopo due anni, tosandosi le pecore di Assalonne a Baalasor, che è vicino a Efraim, Assalonne invitò tutti i figli del re,
24 Absalom went to the king and said, 'Now sir, your servant has the sheep-shearers. Wil the king andhis retinue be pleased to come with your servant?'	24 e andato dal re gli disse: « Ecco, si tosano le pecore del tuo servo; venga, ti prego, il re coi suoi servi a casa del suo servo ».
25 'No, my son,' the king replied, 'we must not al come and be a burden to you.' And though Absalomwas insistent, he would not go but dismissed him.	25 Il re disse ad Assalonne: « No, figlio mio, non chiedere che veniamo tutti ad esserti d'aggravio ». Assalonne insistè; ma il re, pur non volendo andare, lo benedisse.
26 Absalom persisted, 'Then at least let my brother Amnon come with us.' The king said, 'Why should hego with you?'	26 Allora Assalonne disse: « Se non vuoi venire tu, permetti che venga con noi almen Amnon mio fratello ». Il re gli disse: « Non è necessario che egli venga con te ».
27 On Absalom's insistence, however, he let Amnon and al the king's sons to go with him. Absalomprepared a royal banquet	27 Ma avendo Assalonne insistito, David lasciò andare con lui Amnon e tutti i figli del re. Assalonne aveva fatto un convito da re.
28 and then gave this order to the servants, 'Listen careful y; when Amnon's heart is merry with wineand I say, "Strike Amnon down", then kil him. Don't be afraid. Have I not myself given you the order? Use yourstrength and show your mettle!'	28 Or egli aveva dato ai suoi servi quest'ordine: « State attenti: quando Amnon sarà riscaldato dal vino, e io vi dirò: Percotetelo e uccidetelo, non abbiate paura, perchè son io che ve lo comando. Fatevi animo, e siate uomini forti».
29 Absalom's servants treated Amnon as Absalom had ordered. The king's sons al leapt to their feet,mounted their mules and fled.	29 I servi di Assalonne fecero ad Amnon come Assalonne aveva loro comandato. Allora tutti i figli del re, alzatisi, salirono ciascuno sulla propria mula e se ne fuggirono.
30 While they were on the road, word reached David, 'Absalom has killed all the king's sons; not one ofthem is left.'	30 Mentre essi erano ancora per strada, giunse a David questa voce: « Assalonne ha uccisi tutti i figli del re e non c'è rimasto nemmen uno ».
31 The king stood up, tore his clothes and threw himself on the ground. Al his officers tore their clothestoo.	31 Allora il re si alzò, si stracciò le vesti, si gettò per terra. Tutti i servi che gli stavano attorno si stracciarono le vesti;
32 Jonadab son of Shimeah, David's brother, then spoke up and said, 'Do not let my lord take to heartthe report that al the young men, the king's sons, have been killed, since only Amnon is dead: for Absalom hasbeen promising himself to do this since the day when Amnon raped his sister Tamar.	32 ma Gionadab, figlio di Semmaa fratello di David, prese la parola e disse: « Non creda il re mio signore che siano stati uccisi tutti i figli del re; è morto Amnon soltanto, perchè Assalonne glielo aveva giurato fin dal giorno in cui egli fece violenza a Tamar sua sorella.
33 So my lord the king must not imagine that al the king's sons are dead; only Amnon is dead	33 Or dunque il re mio signore non pensi tal cosa, nè si metta a dire: Tutti i figli del re sono stati uccisi, perchè è morto Amnon soltanto ».
34 and Absalom has fled.' The man on sentry duty looked up and saw a large troop coming along theroad from Bahurim. The sentry came to tell the king, 'I have seen some people coming down the Bahurim roadon the mountainside.'	34 Assalonne fuggì. Intanto il servo che stava alle vedette, alzò i suoi occhi e guardò: ed ecco gran quantità di gente venire per una strada fuori mano a lato del monte,
35 Jonadab then said to the king, 'These are the king's sons arriving: what your servant said is exactlywhat happened.'	35 Allora Gionadab disse al re: « Ecco i figli del re che arrivano: l'è andata come ha detto il tuo servo ».
36 He had scarcely finished speaking when the king's sons arrived and wept aloud; the king and al hisretinue wept aloud too.	36 Com'ebbero finito di parlare, comparvero i figli del re, e appena giunti alzaron la loro voce e piansero. Anche il re e tutti i suoi servi piansero di un grandissimo pianto.
37 Absalom had gone to Talmai son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. The king mourned for his son everyday.	37 Intanto Assalonne, che fuggiva, andò presso Tolomai, figlio di Ammiud, re di Gessur. David pianse il suo figlio per tutti i giorni,
38 When Absalom had gone to Geshur, he stayed there for three years.	38 e Assalonne, andato a rifugiarsi in Gessur, vi stette tre anni.
39 Once the king was consoled over Amnon's death, his anger against Absalom subsided.	39 Ma il re David cessò di perseguitare Assalonne, perchè si era consolato della morte di Amnon.
