NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 After this, the fol owing events took place. Absalom son of David had a beautiful sister whose namewas Tamar; Amnon son of David fel in love with her.	1 Sucedió después que Absalón, hijo de David, tenía una hermana que era hermosa, llamada Tamar, y Amnón, hijo de David, se prendó de ella.
2 Amnon was so obsessed with his sister Tamar that it made him il , since she was a virgin and Amnonthought it impossible to do anything to her.	2 Estaba Amnón tan atormentado que se puso enfermo, porque su hermana Tamar era virgen y le parecía difícil a Ammón hacerle algo.
3 But Amnon had a friend called Jonadab son of Shimeah, David's brother, and Jonadab was a veryshrewd man.	3 Tenía Amnón un amigo llamado Yonadab, hijo de Simá, hermano de David; era Yonadab hombre muy astuto,
4 'Son of the king,' he said, 'tel me why, morning after morning, you look so worn? Won't you tel me?'Amnon replied, 'I am in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.'	4 y le dijo: «¿Qué te sucede, hijo del rey, que de día en día estás más afligido? ¿No me lo vas a descubrir?» Amnón le dijo: «Estoy enamorado de Tamar, hermana de mi hermano Absalón».
5 Then Jonadab said, 'Take to your bed, pretend to be ill and, when your father comes to visit you, say,"Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat; let her prepare the food where I can see. Whatshe gives me I shal eat." '	5 Yonadab le dijo: «Acuéstate en tu lecho y fíngete enfermo y cuando tu padre venga en verte le dices: Que venga, por favor, mi hermana Tamar a darme de comer; que prepare delante de mí algún manjar para que lo vea yo y lo coma de su mano».
6 So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill. The king then came to visit him and Amnon said to theking, 'Please let my sister Tamar come and make a cake or two where I can watch. What she gives me, I shaleat.'	6 Y Amnón se acostó fingiéndose enfermo. Entró el rey a verle y Amnón dijo al rey: «Que venga, por favor, mi hermana Tamar y fría delante de mí un par de frituras y yo las comeré de su mano».
7 David then sent word to Tamar at the palace, 'Go to your brother Amnon's house and prepare somefood for him.'	7 David envió a decir a Tamar a su casa: «Vete a casa de tu hermano Amnón y prepárale algo de comer».
8 Tamar went to the house of her brother Amnon who was lying there in bed. She took dough andkneaded it, and she made some cakes while he watched, and baked the cakes.	8 Fue, pues, Tamar a casa de su hermano, que estaba acostado; tomó harina, la amasó, hizo los pasteles y los puso a freír delante de su hermano;
9 She then took the pan and dished them up in front of him, but he refused to eat. Amnon said, 'Leteveryone leave me!' So everyone withdrew.	9 tomó la sartén y la vació delante de él, pero él no quiso comer; y dijo Amnón: «Que salgan todos de aquí». Y todos salieron de allí.
10 Amnon then said to Tamar, 'Bring the food to the inner room, so that I can eat what you give me.' SoTamar took the cakes which she had made and brought them to her brother Amnon in the inner room.	10 Entonces Amnón dijo a Tamar: «Tráeme la comida a la alcoba para que coma de tu mano». Tomo Tamar las frituras que había hecho, se las llevó a su hermano Amnón a la alcoba
11 And as she was offering the food to him, he caught hold of her and said, 'Come to bed with me,sister!'	11 y se las acercó para que comiese, pero él la sujetó y le dijo: «Ven, acuéstate conmigo, hermana mía».
12 She replied, 'No, brother! Do not force me! This is no way to behave in Israel. Do not do anything sodisgraceful!	12 Pero ella respondió: «No, hermano mío, no me fuerces, pues no se hace esto en Israel. No cometas esta infamia.
13 Wherever should I go? I should be marked with this shame, while you would become disgraced inIsrael. Why not go and speak to the king? He wil not refuse to give me to you.'	13 ¿A dónde iría yo deshonrada? Y tú serías como un infame en Israel. Habla, te lo suplico, al rey, que no rehusará entregarme a ti».
14 But he would not listen to her; he overpowered her and raped her.	14 Pero él no quiso escucharla, sino que la sujetó y forzándola se acostó con ella.
15 Amnon was then seized with extreme hatred for her; the hatred he now felt for her was greater thanhis earlier love. 'Get up and go!' he said.	15 Después Amnón la aborreció con tan gran aborrecimiento que fue mayor su aborrecimiento que el amor con que la había amado. Y le dijo Amnón: «Levántate y vete».
16 She said, 'No, brother! To send me away would be worse than the other wrong you have done me!'But he would not listen to her.	16 Ella le dijo: «No, hermano mío, por favor, porque si me echas, este segundo mal es peor que el que me hiciste primero». Pero él no quiso escucharla.
17 He cal ed his personal servant. 'Rid me of this woman!' he said. 'Throw her out and bolt the doorbehind her!'	17 Llamó al criado que le servía y le dijo: «Echame a ésta fuera y cierra la puerta tras ella».
18 (She was wearing a magnificent dress, for this was what the king's unmarried daughters wore indays gone by.) So the servant put her out and bolted the door behind her.	18 (Vestía ella una túnica con mangas, porque así vestían antes las hijas del rey que eran vírgenes). Su criado la hizo salir fuera y cerró la puerta tras ella.
19 Tamar put dust on her head, tore the magnificent dress which she was wearing, laid her hand on herhead, and went away, crying aloud as she went.	19 Tamar puso ceniza sobre su cabeza, rasgó la túnica de mangas que llevaba, puso sus manos sobre la cabeza y se iba gritando mientras caminaba.
20 Her brother Absalom said to her, 'Has Amnon your brother been with you? Sister, be quiet; he is yourbrother; do not take the matter to heart!' Tamar, however, went back to her brother Absalom's houseinconsolable.	20 Su hermano Absalón le dijo: «¿Es que tu hermano Amnón ha estado contigo? Ahora calla, hermana mía; es tu hermano. No te preocupes de este asunto». Y Tamar quedó desolada en casa de su hermano Absalón.
21 When King David heard the whole story, he was very angry; but he had no wish to harm his sonAmnon, whom he loved because he was his first-born.	21 Cuando el rey David supo todas estas cosas se irritó en extremo, pero no quiso castigar a su hijo Amnón, al que amaba porque era su primogénito.
22 Absalom, however, would not so much as speak to Amnon, since he hated Amnon for having rapedhis sister Tamar.	22 Absalón no dijo a Amnón ni una palabra, ni buena ni mala, pues odiaba Absalón a Amnón porque había humillado a su hermana Tamar.
23 Two years later, when Absalom had the sheep-shearers at Baal-Hazor, which is near Ephraim, heinvited al the king's sons.	23 Dos años después, estaban los esquiladores con Absalón esquilando en Baal Jasor, junto a Efraím, y Absalón invitó a todos los hijos del rey.
24 Absalom went to the king and said, 'Now sir, your servant has the sheep-shearers. Wil the king andhis retinue be pleased to come with your servant?'	24 Se presentó Absalón al rey y le dijo: «Ya que estoy de esquileo, que vengan, por favor, conmigo el rey y sus servidores».
25 'No, my son,' the king replied, 'we must not al come and be a burden to you.' And though Absalomwas insistent, he would not go but dismissed him.	25 El rey dijo a Absalón: «No, hijo mío, no podemos ir todos para no serte gravosos». Insistió, pero el rey no quiso ir y le dio su bendición.
26 Absalom persisted, 'Then at least let my brother Amnon come with us.' The king said, 'Why should hego with you?'	26 Absalón le dijo: «Que venga, por favor, con nosotros mi hermano Amnón». Respondió el rey: «¿Para qué ha de ir contigo?»
27 On Absalom's insistence, however, he let Amnon and al the king's sons to go with him. Absalomprepared a royal banquet	27 Pero Absalón le insistió y dejó que fueran con él Amnón y todos los hijos del rey. Absalón mandó preparar un convite regio.
28 and then gave this order to the servants, 'Listen careful y; when Amnon's heart is merry with wineand I say, "Strike Amnon down", then kil him. Don't be afraid. Have I not myself given you the order? Use yourstrength and show your mettle!'	28 Y ordenó a sus criados: «Estad atentos: cuando el corazón de Amnón esté alegre por el vino y yo os diga: “Herid a Amnón”, le mataréis. No tengáis temor, porque os lo mando yo. Cobrad ánimo y sed valerosos».
29 Absalom's servants treated Amnon as Absalom had ordered. The king's sons al leapt to their feet,mounted their mules and fled.	29 Los criados de Absalón hicieron con Amnón lo que Absalón les había mandado. Entonces todos los hijos del rey se levantaron y montando cada cual en su mulo huyeron.
30 While they were on the road, word reached David, 'Absalom has killed all the king's sons; not one ofthem is left.'	30 Estando ellos en camino llegó a David el rumor de que Absalón había matado a todos los hijos del rey y que no había quedado ni uno solo de ellos.
31 The king stood up, tore his clothes and threw himself on the ground. Al his officers tore their clothestoo.	31 Se levantó el rey, rasgó sus vestidos y se echó en tierra; todos los servidores que estaban a su lado rasgaron también, sus vestidos.
32 Jonadab son of Shimeah, David's brother, then spoke up and said, 'Do not let my lord take to heartthe report that al the young men, the king's sons, have been killed, since only Amnon is dead: for Absalom hasbeen promising himself to do this since the day when Amnon raped his sister Tamar.	32 Pero Yonadab, hijo de Simá, hermano de David, tomó la palabra y dijo: «No piense mi señor el rey que han muerto todos los muchachos, los hijos del rey, porque solamente ha muerto Amnón; pues era cosa decidida en boca de Absalón desde el día en que aquél humilló a su hermana Tamar.
33 So my lord the king must not imagine that al the king's sons are dead; only Amnon is dead	33 Así que no haga caso mi señor el rey de esos rumores de que han muerto todos los hijos del rey, porque sólo ha muerto Amnón».
34 and Absalom has fled.' The man on sentry duty looked up and saw a large troop coming along theroad from Bahurim. The sentry came to tell the king, 'I have seen some people coming down the Bahurim roadon the mountainside.'	34 Absalón huyó. El joven que estaba de centinela levantó la vista y vio multitud que venía por el camino de Bajurim, a la bajada, y fue a avisar el rey: «He visto algunos hombres que bajan por el camino de Bajurim, por la ladera de la montaña».
35 Jonadab then said to the king, 'These are the king's sons arriving: what your servant said is exactlywhat happened.'	35 Yonadab dijo al rey: «Son los hijos del rey que llegan; ha sido lo que tu servidor había dicho».
36 He had scarcely finished speaking when the king's sons arrived and wept aloud; the king and al hisretinue wept aloud too.	36 Apenas había acabado de hablar, entraron los hijos del rey y alzando su voz lloraron. También el rey y todos los servidores se echaron a llorar con gran llanto.
37 Absalom had gone to Talmai son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. The king mourned for his son everyday.	37 Absalón huyó yéndose adonde Talmay, hijo de Ammijud, rey de Guesur; y el rey lloraba todos los días por su hijo.
38 When Absalom had gone to Geshur, he stayed there for three years.	38 Absalón, por su parte, había huido yéndose a Guesur: allí se quedó tres años.
39 Once the king was consoled over Amnon's death, his anger against Absalom subsided.	39 El espíritu del rey cesó de airarse contra Absalón, porque se había consolado ya de la muerte de Ammón.
